Diamond Jigs

,
October 28, 2010
By TheAdeleIV

Advantages: catches fish
Disadvantages: Durability
"You can't beat this old style jig for action. I got some of the real heavy ones to get down deep for cod fishing off montauk... and of course they catch fish... only problem is after 2 trips the chrome has almost completely flaked off one of them and the other one has more rust on it than some diamond jigs I've had for over 15 years. The quality is beyond disappointing."

Disadvantages: Durability
"I recently used this heavy jig on a cod trip out of MA. I bought this one because of the weight to get down fast. I did catch a cod or two on this jig before the weak split ring that this product came with broke. In addition, the metal that loops and connects to the split ring is also very weak as this also broke. I have read other reviews that mentioned changing the split ring right out of the package. I am returning this one. Fish on..."

Must have for nighttime tuna

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money
Disadvantages: Durability, Quality
"I agree with the other folks reviews, these jigs are popular on the Galveston fishing boats for tuna and are really a must have. They catch both yellowfin and blackfin when nothing else seems to do so. Be very careful when you purchase these and make sure the eyes are in tight and that there are no splits where the split ring connects to the body. I also replace both the split ring and the hook with stronger rings and hooks since I have seen other anglers lose big fish on the hooks that come with the lure. Its not the highest quality lure, but it works..."

Mack Daddy Tuna Lure!!

,
August 3, 2006
By Nick78
from Jennings, LA
"I work on an offshore drilling rig and spend every night fishing for tuna, I've tried many different lures but nothing compares to a diamong jig when fishing for tuna, just be carefull when selecting the jig, if you look at the eye of the treble hook some of them are not completely welded and tend to come off with a big fish. Buying a stronger split-ring would be strongly recomended also. But all in all nothing compares to the action you get when using this simple lure."

"This lure hooked the jackpot fish on the cattle boat. I have not had any quality issues with these, but I run a little lighter tackle than most people. When other bar jigs are coming up empty, I tie on a diamond jig and start producing. I love them! Try to keep them as close to the bottom as possible, although that means losing one once in a while. You WILL get hooked up."

"I USED THIS LURE A FEW TIMES, FISH LOVE THEM, BUT I HAVE GOTTEN SOME WHERE THE HOOK EYE HAD A GAP IN IT, AND HAS PULLED LOOSE BY A FISH, AND HAVE HAD THE EYE ON THE LURE COME UNSCREWED. THERE IS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT ON THIS LURE."
