Not the best choice

,
November 3, 2011
By banditman
Advantages: Durability
Disadvantages: Performance, Quality
"I bought a Gamo Hunter Maxima earlier this year and bought an assortment of ammo to test with it. I found the raptors to be hit and miss as far as quality and accuracy goes. Sometimes they fit nice and snug into the barrel, other times they just fall in. I would not trade accuracy for speed and much less hunt with these pellets. Groupings are just too incosistent for serious hunting. I found the H&N ammo to be the best for my gun. I can hit a quarter at 50 yards almost every time with these."

Accurate ammo

,
July 23, 2010
By bassbuster346
from Reading, PA
Advantages: Ease of use, Durability, Performs well, Quality
"I originally bought this ammo to use in my Daisy Powerline 905 air rifle, but for some reasons the rounds could not be fitted into the gun. A few months later my brother bought a Gamo Big Cat air rifle, so I decided to put these rounds to the test agian. They functioned great with his gun, and we were able to shoot small varmints at extended distances of 50 yards and further, including a chipmunk that was shot through the mouth. I believe these rounds increase the velocity of air rifles because the weigh less than lead pellets and have pointed noses to reduce air friction. They also don't dirty up your barrel like the lead pellets do. When I originally bought these pellets I paid $10 for them, but now I'm glad to see the price is lowered."

alloy pellet

,
February 17, 2010
By birdo
Disadvantages: poor quality for high cost
"pellet is way over priced [regardless of where purchased], other alloy pellets higher quantity for less cost, not precision by any stretch of imagination. do not consistently go supersonic, recently had entire tube of pellets that about 2 of every 10 would go supersonic, thought rifle was broken, next tube about 9 of 10 supersonic, pellets do have good penetration consistently even when pellet is subsonic but obviously this inconsistency in velocity affects accuracy. would I recommend this product to a friend? not for target shooting, maybe for hunting but visually inspect pellets first, some still have wings from molding hence the lack of precision!"

Fast but Loud

By Gamonator

Advantages: Durability, Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money, high velocity
"These pellets are very fast. I was shooting in my garage with these and I missed the trap. These things went right through the wall, through the insalation stuff, through the side panels, and hit our neighbors car(WHOOPS!). My other lead pellets would just go through to the insallation stuff. I just got my first rabbit last night with these. HEADSHOT!!! Dropped it dead!"

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well
Disadvantages: Durability
"My Grandparents live on a farm in Indiana and my Grandpa just purchased the GAMO Whisper Air Rifle. These pellets came with the rifle and I'm proud to say I've killed 3 cowbirds (Bad kind of bird that invades other birds nests) with these pellets. They aren't the best pellets I have shot but they get the job done. They are not the top of the line pellets like Polymags. They are pretty well manufactured and like i said they get the job done. I hope my review was helpful to you. Happy hunting!"

Too light to be practical, fun to a degree

,

Advantages: the crack of breaking sound barrier is impressive, fun to have 'fastest' gun on block, good pellet to experiment with and compare
Disadvantages: poor ballistic coefficient drains velocity quick, hard on spring piston systems, breaking sound barrier makes pellet unstable
"I am an experienced airgunner and I just wanted to lay out my years of experience to help out the average joe out there that is interested in picking up a serious air gun and find this ammo appealing with its advertised supersonic speed.
These pellets weigh 4.9 grains. At the muzzle of a powerful spring piston air rifle you will get 1250-1500FPS. Thats where the excitement ends. The horrible ballistic coefficient (its ability to retain velocity due to shape and weight) makes this pellet the least efficient pellet available. Comparing a .22 cal air-rifle with a starting velocity of 800 FPS shows that at 30 yards the .22 pellet has 3 times more energy. At 50 yards the difference is beyond comparison and these pellets fall horribly behind both heavier .177 and .22 lead pellets from the same powerplant.
I am in no way bashing this particular brand of ammo, in their specific application I think the novelty of having supersonic ammo and hearing the crack of the sound barrier being broken from a simple spring piston rifle is kinda cool. Also, for very low powered air rifles, these may be the only way to get decent muzzle velocities. Being a serious airgunner puts many of us into a catagory as "experimenters" that thrive on "seeing how things work" and these pellets used within safe limits are something to add to our arsenal, something to try every now and then to compare to other pellets available. I guarentee that once you start getting different brands of premium lead ammo from Crosman, Beeman or JSB...you will begin to see the disadvantages of this superlight pellet, especially beginning at 30 yds and beyond.
For most applications, these will stay accurate enough to hit a bird or squirrel as noted by the previous reviews but consistently killing critters and shooting excellent groups will elude you in most cases.
Super lite pellets do not offer the resistence the piston inside of a spring piston airrifle needs to slow down efficiently. This results in a slamming of the piston hard at the bottom which causes excessive wear and tear, accuracy problems and LOTS of vibration which makes your groups spread out horribly. A spring will typically be most efficient with a midweight pellet and this in turn will wring out the most range and accuracy out of your air rifle.
You may think that the advantage this pellet has to offer is the incredible speed, BUT a feather lite pellets breaking the sound barrier is a known 'no-no' amongst serious airgunners. The shockwave will cause the pellet to tumble and wobble and make it less accurate. The noise at supersonic speeds also becomes a disadvantage in suburban areas where airguns normally are quite at home.
My take?....'it doesn't matter how fast you shoot past', muzzle velocity is only a bragging point but velocity past 30 yards diminished quickly with these very low ballistic coefficient pellets, fun to try and brag you have a gun that CAN do super-sonic speed...but beyond that no practicality. 2 stars for the 'fun factor' and being able to shoot fastest pellet around. Too many disadvantages to make it worth while buying more than one pack just to have in your arsenal to amaze your friends with the loud crack. Expensive as compared to heavier and higher quality pellets. These are a well marketed 'no-go showboat' from brilliant company execs that know 'speed sells' and flashy packaging and wording will always get the sale."

"This is a good pellet, I believe it shoots faster that the lead, but it is not as accurate as the predator pellet and I do not get the same penetration at 75 yards. At that range I cannot penetrate a water bottle using this pellet and a Gamo Viper, the Predator pellet gives better penetration."
