Good but could be better..

Advantages: Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: guides used, weight
"My review is for ugly Stik Tiger 2201-2 2-piece rod. This is one of few 2-piece casting rods I could find. It is easy to transport and it is as strong as single piece rod. I use this rod for black sea bass and fluke fishing and I have hauled some huge sea bass and doormat flukes. It is relatively sensitive, although not as sensitive as my friend's 100% graphite rod (which costs 3 times as much). For the money it is unbeatable. All the positive reviews here generally would apply to this rod as well so I won't repeat.
Now for the negatives. First, the guides on the rod. I wish they had put the Fuji Hardloy guides on these like the spinning rods. The stainless guides, especially the tip top wore out soon and I don't even use super braided lines. The tip top was easily replaceable but some of the guides have now developed wears and I need to replace those soon.
Next is the weight of the rod... it sure feels a lot heavier than the newer 100% graphite rods. I wish they could update the blank material. But overall this is a very good rod for my targeted species."

"Bought this rod to match with my new Trinidad 16N. Leaving Sunday to go to Baja to try it out, but have tested it on dry land and like it so far. Real test will happen next week when I catch that big dorado! Cannot tell for certain how many stars to give as I have not yet used the rod in actual conditins."

Great catfish rod

,
May 17, 2011
By scooter0032
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: long handle after the reel connection
"If you want to keep buying $30.00 rods every year because the tip broke or the eyelets broke off then you don't want this rod. This rod is one that you will use for the next 30 years and after you pass on one of your kids or grand kids will find it and use it for who knows how long with everyone wondering where the rod came from. Then the famous phrase will be said yet once again "They sure don't make them like they use too" this rod will allow you to pull a 4 lb catfish straight from the water into the boat yet still light enough to see every nibble. Your fishing buddy will be asking you where your net is and your reply who needs a net. Very tuff rod. The only thing I see may cause some people to dislike this rod is the long handle after the reel connection. But it does help lifting those 4lb cats into the boat. I think i would prefer a shorter handle cause I'm just use to it being that way but I can't complain this rod will take a beating."

Great Flathead Rod

,
March 11, 2011
By AJH53
from Rosalie, Nebraska
Advantages: Performs well, Value for money, Quality
"I have 2 of the 7' M action rods. I use them for flatheads with big baits. They work really well for this purpose. Soft enough tip to cast big baits without tearing the hook out, but more than enough backbone to handle big flatheads. Pulled several 40+ lb. fish from cover with this rod. Great pair with like an Abu Garcia 7000 or Shimano Tekota 600. I really like the heavy duty eyes. For the money, this rod can't be beat."

"Every year I take kids fishing that never fished in their lives. I buy a few rods and reels so they take them home as well. I am not rich but I do know that they will keep their rod and reel in memory and its a great thing to see them grow up over the years.
I used to buy packaged combo sets in the $50 range. Rod and reels by SouthBend and such and noticed that the reels may last a couple of season or so and the poles last about the same length of time even with maintenance. About 5 years ago, I started buying Ugly Stiks and the rods always return in good usable condition.
My son's grade school class kids are now in college, soldiers or moved to other states and only a few of them are around to jump into my boat and go fishing now. Yes, I have my custom rods and such but I take my Ugly Stik to be part of something that feels good and gives good performance. One of the kids showed up the other day in his pickup truck with a fishing rod and reel unsecured in the bed of his truck. I said it should be tied and he said its an Ugly Stik and he's never seen one break, besides, I introduced it to him over a dozen years ago.
That Stephan is going to be a good dad one day. Ugly Stik, get one, own one and take a kid, no, a bunch of kids fishing and you will be remembered.
Through the years, I have taken new kids fishing and even young men and ladies fishing. Its a good feeling"

Sensitive tip and strong backbone.

,
May 13, 2009
By mudsucker
from Granbury, Texas
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money, tuff but sensitive tip strong backbone, dependable
"These are the best built rods for the MONEY.
Stainless Steel guides won't break unles you run your truck over them. This is great because of the abuse a rod takes during transporting.
The sensitive rod tip allows you to set the trap on any fish, the fish often hooks its self and yet the strong backbone it requires to land a large catfish won't let you down.
I have several fishing rods and the shakespeare Ugly stik tigers are my go to rods, whether fishing for trophy flatheads, Blues or just a bunch of small channel cats.
Never buy a 2 piece rod unless your are perch fishing."

The best for big fish

"I bought a Tiger rod six month ago and I had the oportunity to try it jigging for Peruvian sea bass and trolling for grouper .
I consider this is my best rod for this type of fishing. I caught several 20 pound groupers and many 6 lb sea bass and I landed easily all of them.
Tiger rods are very good, strong rods, and the tip very sensible, one can trust 100 % these rods. I will buy two more of them.

Big fish rod!

,
May 30, 2008
By crashfire1

"We use two of these rods on the Columbia River for keeper size (42"-60") and oversize (60"+) sturgeon. They are great. There is a ton of back bone to really pull on the big guys but light enough to feel the little hits. A guide that I talk to recomended this rod and that is all he uses. He landed a 16 footer last year with one. He also uses them for tuna.
One is paired with a Penn 330 with 50lbs mono and the other with a 320 and 50 lbs brade.
Best rod out there and you can not beat the price!"

Lucky for BPS...

"2 piece 50#-rated, spinning and casting Tiger rods.
Lucky for BassPro they didn't stock these rods when I was buying them. I ordered one each, spinning & casting for my cliff fishing in the salt. I need 2 piece rods to get through the bush and climbing up & down the rockpiles I frequently fish, or you just break the rod, get hung-up in bush or fall off a cliff when your rod jams your stomach as tips hits the rocks 7'-9' ahead of you.
EVERY one of these rods, after 3 shipments of 2 each, have ferrules that didn't fit well, AND were muli-fractured by the trim-saw operator in the factory. Not shipping damaged, but manufacturing damage.
That's the one-star rating.
The "recomend to friend" is because, when I finally got one spinning version which was not broken, it does as required very well.
In fact, were it not for the fact you must buy these rods in person, inspect and fiddle with each rod until you get one perfect in order to avoid buying already broken rods...
...These are a slam-dunk nice rod.
Cheers!, and inspect the 2 piece rods carefully at the female ferrule..."

EXCELLENT ROD

,

"I had the opportunity to use this rod on a guided cat fishing trip on Lake Marion in the Santee-Cooper lakes. It handled the biggest fish with no problem. The rod provided enough leverage to allow every one to land a big fish. An excellent rod, that's why I'm shopping for one now."

Best Pole Ever Made ~ Ugly Stik Tiger BWC2202

,
July 5, 2007
By D.Davis (aka Wizazz)
"I'm a Big Fan of the Ugly Stik series for many years now.
I just purchased 2 of the Shakespeare Ugly Stik Tiger BWC2202 to handle the Giaint 60+LBs Flathead Catfish on the Rock River here in Illinois.. Let me tell you This Tiger Ugly Stik is the best pole i ever purchased... Very Very Strong, Sturdy and the High Quality of how its made and the Componants used to make it.. Make it problly one of the Best poles on the Market.
I've used many Catfish and big game poles Such as the Quantum Big Cat Poles and they dont come even close to the Strenth and Quality of a Ugly Stik Tiger Pole.
Try using a Ugly Stik Tiger pole Combined with a new Abu Garcia 6600d6 Baitcaster reel and Berkley Spiderwire 85 lbs test braid and you will be ready for the Largest Lunker Fish you can Find AnyWhere and easilly drag them in.

"This
rod combined with a Penn 330GTI is an excellent combo using leadcore
line and fishing for stripers trolling. It handles both jig heads with
a tail of some sort as well as large deep diving plugs up to 10 inches
in length. The GTI can handle 13 colors of 36 lb lead core.
