"One of the best rod holders I have ever used for huge catfish. If you can mount this holder down secure, and I mean extremelysecure to your boat, it will hold some of the biggest cats you could ever imagine hooking with your rod and reel. I have seen some rods bend over and touch the water with the drags screaming as the line was ripped off the baitcaster reels but these rod holders will not give up one inch to these mighty brutes. If your looking for a rod holder that will stand up to the power of the big blue cats and Flatheads, this is it."

Advantages: Performs well
Disadvantages: get in the way some when climbing in/out boat, little costy.
"Good holder for spinning rod, but does not work well for long cane pole on my boat due to poles hitting water at the tip due to not enough tilt, but I will be able to bend a little to make it work well for long cane pole. Works well for both crappie and flounder drifting/trolling. Some of the largest flounder I have caught were hooked with rod in this holder."

"I really like these rod holders they are strong, easy to use and I have no fear of losing a rod. The only thing that sucks is you have to buy the mounting brackets separately and they cost 6.99 and up so I just bought a 10 dollar piece of 1x1/2'' aluminum that I cut into pieces 2 1/4'' long and drilled and tapped a 3/8'' hole in the middle and a quarter inch hole on each end and bolted them to the boat with 1/4" stainless bolts and locknuts and saved myself a little over 30.00 on installing 6 rod holders"

"Don't use this device for it's "face value" only. We have converted the bases of these into some nice trolling rigs without the expense of the driftmaster full system. We use the bases and use some all-thread and a 1/3-1/2 inch steel piece of metal and holds up great. one of our rigs holds 6 poles!!!!! and very stablke we have had up to 5 fish on at once with no problems."

"I bought some of these holders to catfish with live bait. I mounted them on my aluminum boat and they work great. So far I have caught flatheads up to 41 lbs so they will hold!! I like the quick and easy removal feature because I use my boat to deer hunt in the fall and winter. This allows me to get them out of the way but leave the bases for quick set up when its time to fish again."

"Even the 3/8" holder is more than adequate for catfish over 50lbs. The aluminum base can/does strip out and the wingnut is very hard to tighten enough to make the holder stationary. I pulled the wing nuts and put on stainless 3/8"X16 nuts along with a large stainless washer. Just need to carry a 9/16" wrench."
