bait requires extreme net man

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"The action on this bait which i would put into the classification swimbait is one of the most life like i have ever seen and is my personal favorite hard baits. During the spring when the bass are eating bait fish is when it is most efective. In Texas every spring they stock trout in local pounds and evey spring the bass gorge themselves on the trout this bait is a perfect imatation of a trout in it's body shape and the way it moves. I think the best color is rainbow trout. On the smaller baits you can use a spinning rod but i prefer to use a baitcaster with a gear ratio made for crank baits and a fairly strong stiff rod."

Fish it on top

"I have found this bait is deadly on bass year round. Best used as a surface bait like a popper or dead pan it or with a super slow retrieve where it snakes across the top of the water. Sometimes hard to keep them running straight but doesn't matter when fishing on top. My best go to bait. Me and my buddies all have at least a handful of these in our tackle. best colors are the black and silver and the black and gold. the mid size lures seem to be the best but the larger one is good when focusing on the big ones."

"On my third cast at my local pond i caught a 14 inch chain pickerel on my fifth i caught a 10 inch yellow perch. tHE NEXT time i went to the pond i caught a 26 inch chain pickerel could have been a state record not sure though. The thing must have weighed 6 or 7 pounds huge. I also caught a 20 inch 18 inch and many smaller pickerel about 12 to 16 inches. It also works amazing for trout. Wasn't expecting to catch them i caught 6 , 10 inch plus trout one was 15 inches. I have also caught a ton of bass at my local lake with it. The best colors are fire tiger and blue THIS LURE IS AMAZING!!!!!"

"1st of all fishing is my lifes purpose and has been for many many years if i were to label myself as what kind of an angler i am its smallmouth thru and thru without a doubt, however in order to consider yourself a true angler i feel the catch of any fish from a small bluegill to a 3+ ft musky to stripers, stingrays and small sharks to trophy bass all bring warmth to the heart however some more than others, anyone who gives this lure a bad review has no reason to be throwing lures, if it runs bad its user error trust me i know, sometimes after a snag or a fish the knot can slide slightly to one side or the other causeing it to flop out of the water simply fix by holding the lure and pulling the line(about 6in from the lure) straight with the lure and problem solved as for action and style of retrive this bait is the most versitile in my mind, run it slow like rapala says or burn the heck out of it at high speeds like i like to do, i find the burning it causing nearby fish that are in active to give a "what the heck is that gotta go get it and see" type reaction kinda like a cat after a laser light, fish see bait alll the time but when somehing out of the normal happens its an attention grabber and triggers that predatory response they all have, i have caught countless smallmouth/largemouth 18+in on this,22in chain pickerel, 38in musky on 8lb test with this, bluefish, striped bass, even bluegill all on my favorite model, J-11 silver/black over the years for bassin jigs have been the most productive lunker catchers for me and are my favorite bass bait to thro, but if i were to be tossed on that desert island with 1 lure all us fisherman talk about my lure would be the rapala J-11 silver black, i prefer fishing this lure in clear low summer river waters(i fish rivers 9.9/10 of the places i go) many times i waded rivers with this 1 lure and only it, back to working the lure, burn it fast, fish it slow, pop it like a poper, and sometimes just cast it and let it sit there on the surface, even jerk bait it or burn burn burn stop burn burn, anything you can think of this lure will catch i promise you, if i were lying may all my st croixs break and revo's seize up and 1 last tip, use lighter line, this is a balsa lure so its light and i prefer 8-12lb test sufix seige or stren orginal or any smooth casting line, using things like 17+ the lure doesnt cast as far and you lose alot of action, lighter line better action, just be awara you go to light you may hook that one of a lifetime, ps it is basla so toothy fish or schooling stripers and bluefish can bust it up faster than plastic jointed my preference for plastic jointeds are rebels EXTREMELY close to the rapala jointed action but with plastic durability, just something about that balsa action is pricless"

A go to lure

,
December 13, 2011
By CDWilliams05
from South Carolina
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality
Disadvantages: hooks grab each other and line
"It's a little pricier than some of the other lures, but this lures is a consistent producer. The graphics are well done, durable, the eyelets are quality, and the bill is firmly in place.
I usually start the day with either the shad coloration or the copper coloration depending on water color. Switching it up throughout the day, this one is typically the one I go back to near the end of the day because it consistently gets a fish on.
Only issue but I have this issue with several lures and other brands, the hooks can grab each other and the line during the cast and you do end up with a wasted cast depending on how the hooks tangle up it could be a wasted cast. Doesn't happen to often, but enough to make note."

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: twists line
"I dont usually fish hard baits because, personally, i think they're over rated. However this lure is definitely not over rated! It's a walleye killer! Ive caught tons of walleye on this lure in every size, colour wise id use the the bright green for night fishing, other than that id use black/gold, black/silver and blue. Only downside is that it twists your line, to avoid this problem, pick up some ball bearing swivels"

"After reading some of the other lure's reviews, I thought it only fair to pay homage to THE BOSS. If I could only tell you how many of these lures I have owned. Many lost to snags and broken lines. These things are amazing! Action is great. Durability is great. You get what you pay for. Rapalas's finishes are second to none. I fish many different lures from time to time. Most of the time I need only my boat and a jointed rapala. I fish mostly shallow lakes and ponds. Every time i return to the dock, all the neighbors want to know if they are biting and what i'm using. They are amazed that the answer is always the same. Jointed rapala. You just cant argue with success. If you fish bass, and you dont own one of these, your not fishin. I try lots of gear. But these lures are old faithfulls."

"yesterday i went fishing at a pond. after about an hour and a half of not even getting a bite i tied this on. i ended up with 50 bass and 5 bluegill for the day including my biggest bass ever of 4 1/4 lbs. that day i also caught the two biggest fish ive ever caught out of that pond on this bait. several times the second the bait would hit the water i would have a fish. the floater also works as a topwater. thats what i was using. a good technique is to reel a little and pause as the bait will float to the top and repeat. i was using the silver color. best hardbait ever."

They work in all weather and water conditions. and they are very durable.I Ihave a black and silver J9 that I call old reliable......when the fishing gets tough I put it on ... with in a few cast it seems to always come through. The lure is 15 years old and still has the original hooks"

"Grab a J09 in silver and enjoy the ride! If the F07 Original Rapala in chartreuse isn't doing the trick, try my suggestion with the Jointed.
These two Rapala presentations are the only ones you need. I've fished smallies in Canada with them (got bonus northern pike) and in the Midwest you will blow up the water for largemouth (and get bonus giant crappies).
Have fun!"

"Last year, from early May to mid June, this is what I used 90% of the time. It was the J-7 in the Brown Trout color. It worked so well, there was almost no point in taking it off the line!
I fished it in the shallows; sometimes very slow so it would just barely break the surface, or if I reeled it in quicker, I would sharply twitch the rod while doing so. Definitely not the biggest size offered, but that doesnt mean it wont catch larger fish!"

Ol' Faithful

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Quality
"This lure has become known as Ol' Faithful in my circle of friends. When nothing else seems to be catching fish I can count on this lure to get the job done. I can be in the middle of a conversation and paying no attention to my technique and STILL get strikes on this lure! I like the silver/black in size 7 and 9. A buddy of mine swears by the gold. I can remember seeing the same lure in my grandpa's tackle box as a kid. It's a true classic that will never stop working."
