Ok bait

,
March 18, 2012
By troutman217
from kent,WA
Disadvantages: Performance
"I have seen everything about this bait, and it still doesn't impress me. Lidners always seem to be using this bait when fishing, but I have used it for crappie and what not when it isn't iced over and it catches nothing! I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. I think it works, but it doesn't catch anything and that is why I gave it a 3. Maybe if I tried fishing with it a little more, I might have caught something, I would probably reccomend it to ice fisherman. But for having seen so many episodes on fishing this for crappie, walleye, and anything else that it might catch I am completley unimpressed."

best jig

,
October 17, 2010
By Octaviaus
from MT.
Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: no disadvantages it's great
"I love this jig i'm not much into jigging and i have a few other jigs and this one is the easiest i have used so far and it kills perch i have a firetiger color { about 2in.} and a silver one {about 2,3/4 in.} the only one i've used so far is the firetiger out of a boat and hammered a bunch of perch with it. It's best if you use a piece of worm or an eye of some sort and put it on the treble hook { for pike i think a minnow head would work great.}
Get this jig it'll be the best you ever buy."

Not just for ice-fishing! Secret deep bass weapon!

,
July 29, 2010
By Brentmeister
from North Central Texas
Advantages: Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: Difficult to use
"While this Rapala lure is well-known for its ice-fishing production, it is a very nice alternative technique for hot-weather deep water bass.
In late summer the bass often head for the deep water and suspend off humps, road-beds and other deep structure. Anglers will key on these areas with deep diving crank baits, Carolina rigs...
While these deepwater techniques often produce, sometimes the bass get finicky and need a more 'in your face' sustained presentation.
The Rapala Jigging Rap can be fished right over the side of the boat, targeting fish that are identified on electronics. You can even see the jig on the graph and put it right in front of the fish! It's electronic sight fishing....
The best color in North/Northeast Texas has been the silver/shad pattern.
It is another quality product from Rapala and is a nice alternative when other deep water bass techniques will not produce.
Exposed hooks limit this lure to brush-free, hard structure areas..."

Awesome motions

,
January 25, 2010
By hermantoo
from Boston, MA
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design
"This lure is awesome. The motion is incredible. I do very slight ups and downs, just little flicks of the wrists. Every now and then I actually lift up my arm then let it drop, and it does a nose dive down. I have two sizes, one for perch and panfish, and one for trout and bass. I usually tip it with a power egg. I am going to start using night crawlers. This is going to be lethal at my signature panfishing spot, because I know that they are down there, and when they see it, they will go crazy."

Not just limited to ice fishing!

,
December 28, 2007
By NJBass
from New Jersey
"If you like the looks of this lure but don't ice fish, well don't think that's all you can use it for! I don't ice fish, but I use this lure almost 90% of the time for crappie/light bass fishing. I like jigging under docks and in and around structure on ultralight tackle with 6lb. fluoro or mono. A 4'6" rod is perfect (I use a G. Loomis GL2), and a small spinning reel. Jig it fast, slow, deep, shallow, any way you want, and you are pretty much guarenteed to catch the attention of any panfish/bass in the area. I have even caught walleye, trout, and pickerel. I recommend the color silver, or gold/parrot for stained water. Tipping it with bait is optional."

Great for Pike and Perch

,
September 25, 2007
By BrianV
"I've generally used this lure when ice fishing - the 'perch' colour is especially dangerous for pike. Seems they can't cruise anywhere near one of these without striking.
I've also had luck with perch on this rig. They strike fairly well without any baiting... stick a few maggots on it, and it performs quite well. Of course, when you bait it with eyes, you get a fish every drop.
These set very well; I've never lost a fish once on the hook.
Note: You may want to get one of the bigger variants of this lure. I've needed to do that to prevent smaller perch from taking it in. The bigger varieties are only really struck at by 'keepers' - 11" and bigger."
