"Hands down, the best baitcast reel ever made. Forget the price...some are more expensive but none are better. I have many of them and finally suceeded in wearing out my first 200 which must be 25 years old...no longer can get parts for it but will keep it anyway, like the old ambassaduer 4500-5500's, to pass on to my son. I use them for bass, snook, reds, jacks, and blue fish...my other baitcasters just stay at home or in the rod box."

"I usually use low-profile Shimano reels, but I needed something with a bit more power for throwing swimbaits. I was not disappointed at all with this reel. Smooth, powerful, easy-to-use, and rock-solid construction. This reel is expensive, but you get what you pay for, it is a high-quality weapon in my bass fishing arsenal."

"Yes, this reel is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Its buttery smooth, and has plenty of power. It is also built rock solid and can withstand punishment. I predominantly use this for large swimbaits, but have also used it for smaller crankbaits, to catch Stripers on the Delta. Shimano is the best!"

"I purchased this reel this past September. It was immediately put through an offshore test one week later. Got countless Bonito, Calico Bass, and Barracuda. Sweet drag on this reel! Handled larger fish with ease. Awesome reel for tossing 4 and 5 inch Swimbaits. Fished this reel all day without any fatigue. It fits in the palm of your hand perfectly! If you can afford it, BUY IT!!!!"

"I currently own three Calcutta 100B's and three of these Calcutta 100 TE GT's. If I could afford to have more TE's, I would have all TE's. The first time you hold this reel in your hand, you know it's solid. I've used other reels in the past that had slipping gears on hooksets. Not with these - even with braid.
These reels perform, day in and day out. Reliability is a huge factor when I purchase fishing equipment. I have nothing but the highest confidence in this Shimano line.
If you can afford it, buy it."

"I own both the TE100GT and 200GT (and the TE50GT). These reels are a slight upgrade of the "B" models in the Calcutta line, with additional bearings and metal parts where the "B's" use plastic. If you don't mind paying the extra money the TE GT line is definitly the way to go. Extra smooth and extra long casting with few, if any backlashing problems. Even with light lures. I generally use the 100 simply because the smaller diameter is easier to palm with less hand fatigue. If I'm after something a little bigger I'll pull out the 200 for the extra line capacity and the slightly heavier drag. I really enjoy the low profile reels such as the Chronarch, but I find myself going back to the Calcutta's time and again. Super smooth and quiet. Shoot, they even have bearings in the handle grips! The new system for accessing the centrifugal brake system is also very convenient. They changed the way the spool is supported on that side so you don't have to worry about the spool slipping out as with the old system. They also added a knulrled thumb screw so you don't have to use a screwdriver to access the centrifugal weights. Very convenient. Sure, you can get something cheaper. But I'll wager this reel will last twice as long, and be an immeasurable pleasure to use."

"I had never used a reel such as this before, fell in love after casting the first time. Caught so many fish on this, ease of use with one hand. With the other reels I was constantly switching back and forth and getting "rat's nests" (tangled backlashes), with this one, I still get the backlashes but they are fewer and farther between and by far a lot less agrivating. I like the precision of this reel. It is so smooth and efficient that I hardly know that there is a reel there, feels like an extention of my hand it is so perfect. Thank you all very much for engineering such a wonderful product! I think I am going to start tounament fishing soon. I've not felt so confident in a product in quite a while. Thanks Again."

"There can't be a better round baitcaster made. Used my CTE-200GT for four seasons now. Liked it so much I got a CTE-50GT. I have 3 Calais 200's and a Calais 100 and the Calcuttas are at least as good, and you can clean and lube them yourself."

"shimano bullet proof enough said. i have eight shimano reels currently, some of them are over fifteen years old and all work perfectly with little to no repairs. the new model 100 and 200 offer the same great performance as the previous model but has a new feature that makes brake changes much easier"
