"I own 5 of these reels and fish both in the states and overseas. Top quality product that will perfom very well. No matter if its an 8 lb. Florida bass or pulling in 100 plus peacocks per day in Panama it works!"

Great Reel But

,
December 10, 2010
By wizzrdofahs
from Boonville, MO
Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Quality
Disadvantages: cost is too high
"I love this reel. The oscillating spool is a miracle of invention. The only thing about these reels is that the engineers put the bait clicker in backwards. It clicks on the retrieve, not when the fish is taking the line out. When I'm out on the bank with this reel and the clicker is sounding when I'm reeling in I have to laugh. Then I think some engineer spilled his martini on the plans to reveal a backwards image and that's how they built it. However, this reel always works."

Great first impressions

,
September 19, 2010
By Iowagobblers
from Louisa County, Iowa
Advantages: Style/Design, Performs well
Disadvantages: clicks when reeling in line
"I used the GC 120 for catfishing today and found that I preferred this reel over my also new Zebco Z03. I am not saying I don't like the Zebco but I admit I like this reel better and the size is preferable for catching fish in current. My only knock is that I do not think you can turn off the clicking noise when reeling but otherwise my first impression was very good. I put this on a new Browning Silaflex 6' medium action rod and I preferred this setup over the Zebco on a 6' medium action St. Croix Triump rod. The Browning/Goldcast combo was supposed to be my back-up rod and reel but that won't apparently be the case."

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality
Disadvantages: a little heavy
"I really enjoy using this reel. It offers flexibility and ease of use that can be mastered by a beginner and enjoyed by the experienced fisher-person (I try to be politically correct at least once a week). It is a little heavy but not bad. I am very happy with the purchase."

Nice Reels

,
June 11, 2010
By rds1

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: drag has a tendency to loosen
"I have given all three sizes a good work out and for someone who wants a good spincast reel at a fair price ,these are worthy. Daiwa claims they will handle superline, so I use Fireline on my 10 lb. with no problems so far. My only complaint is the drag has to be fiddled with, as it has a tendency to lighten up when they are jarred around."

Fun & Function

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality, advanced adjustable drag
"When I was a kid in the '60's, I got hooked on spincast reels. Thanks to Daiwa, I am still hooked and catching every northern Minnesota fish possible with this sturdy, reliable reel from Daiwa. The "100" handles 10 lb. line effortlessly and has a drag that is eazzzzzzzzzzy and accurate to operate at every moment of the "fish-on" process. Daiwa, thanks for the technology and the fun. Thanks from a big kid."

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality, reverseable for left or right handed
"I've owned 2 of these reels for over 25 years. They have stood the test of time in great fashion. My family owned a bait and tackle store in upstate NY for over 15 years and we went fishing almost ever night after we closed for the day. These reels never snagged and cast with ease. My 9 year old now uses the small one and I'm finally buying a new one for me after 25 years."

whats a good reel? dawias small problem!

January 17, 2010

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money, daiwa is best!
Disadvantages: needs little tweekin
"the silvercast has all the castabillity like a baitcast just without the price! heres how to achieve that. the silvrcst has a spring just behind the drum that holds the spring that attaches to the pin. sometimes this spring comes off th pin causing the line to jerk back when casting. THE FIX! to keep from this happening hot glue the spring end to where it attaches to the back of the drum not from the pin side. this will keep the spring attached. i have a slvrcst 80 with spiderwire 30#braid. its better than my abu ambasedr. hope this helps CHIC7 with his/her problem"

Good Reel

,

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money, reliable
"Just bought my third one of these. The other two, 100's, are over 20 years old. In between I've tried several cheaper reels. None come close to these. The only thing that cost it that fifth star is the bad quality of the anti reverse switch. Mine were seldom if ever used but they have both been replaced and are cracked again. Not a serious problem, but aggravating. The drag is smooth, the casting is good. It'll last you. And it can handle a big fish."

Disadvantages: Durability, Performance
"The Daiwa Goldcast has been my favorite spin cast for years but in the last year I've had three that all developed the same problem after only a couple uses-the pin sometimes gets stuck down on cast and fails to catch the line on retrieve. Also, I've compared my old Goldcast to the newer ones and the older ones look and feel like a much better reel. Sorry Daiwa, three strikes and you're out! After reading the reviews of the Zebco Omega I'm buying both sizes in it and hoping I find my new favorite spincast."
