My favorite Ugly Stik

Advantages: Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
"I purchased this rod last night to use with my new Bass Pro Pro Qualifier size 20 reel. I took it out this morning and I am absolutely in love! I have an Ugly Stik "Classic" inshore rod that I use with a size 40 Shimano reel, and that had been my favorite, but the weight and feel of this rod fits my casting style just perfect!"

Just Right.....

,
December 9, 2010
By RollTideTofer
from Alabama Gulf Coast
Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: cheap guides
"OK so let me tell you I had to look at a lot of rods before I found one that would work for me. See I like to fish the old mitchell 306's that have a little bigger reel foot than most new reels do. So I had to find one that would fit, and I had to do it on a budget. Eventually I'll be getting a nice custom rod built for this reel but I needed something until I can afford that. I have to say I'm quite pleased with this rod even if the guides aren't "premium" guides. I guess people just don't understand how cheap it actually is to replace a single guide. So as long as they don't all fail your in good shape. For $40 its a pretty darn good rod."

Broken Guide

,
October 29, 2010
By DavieDave
from Davie, FL
Disadvantages: Durability
"It was my first Ugly and that's just what it was. After a couple of uses, the large guide snapped somewhere between riding home in a rod holder and walking to the garage. There was limited banging around. I did replace it with another Ugly Stick, but one with more substantial guides."

Best Rods for the $

"I have been using Ugly Stick Rods since I was a kid (23yrold now) with great success. Since shakespeare started making the Lite sieres they are all I have bought. I have a couple lighter action ones I use for bottom fishing in the chesapeake bay. It is a blast to catch 10 Perch and 10+ inch Spot with only 1-1/2oz of weight. Yet they are stong enough to handle medium size croaker and even blues and medium size Rockfish. These rods have excellent feel and are a little stiffer than the regular series, yet they are just as forgiving. These are excellent rods for the money!"

Good Purchase

"I've had this rod for roughly 2 1/2 yrs, and has worked excellent. HOWEVER, I managed to snap the tip just after the second guide, and have had a heck of a time to get a hold of Shakespeare to look into the warranty, and no luck. Very good product, but just hope it doesn't break, because good luck getting it replaced..."

Advantages: Performs well, Value for money
Disadvantages: need metal insets on guides
"This is one of my favorite rods.Good action and light weight.I havent had a prob with the guides like the others have stated but I would have like to seen metal inserts for using braided line.Well worth the money.I wont buy anything other then a ugly stick no reason to spend more on a rod you can break."

"This is one of the best rods i've ever used. The performance is excelent and i've had it for 2 and a half years now without any problems. Suggest getting it if your a guide captain or just and inshore fisherman. Works great on pilings for sheepshead with the medium-light action. also great for red/black drum, flounder, and speckled trout. I have 4 ugly sticks but this ones the best of all."

Bad Rod Guides

,

"I was fishing with this rod and the rod guide popped out, making rod useless. Who cares if it will not snap if you can't keep a fighting fish from breaking your line. Two stars for bad rod guides."

Hard worker

"I've had my Lite Inshore rod for 3 years now. I use it on the grass flats, around jetties, and near shore. Never had a problem. Love the way the reel stays locked in unlike some other rods I've owned. Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, and Lady fish all get whipped with my medium lite action. The greatest benefit is the sensitivity! I can feel even the lightest bite in the handle. I also have an Ugly Stick surf rod that is tough, tough, tough."

Great Value

,
June 24, 2008
By Fishers

"I finally got fed up with my rods snapping. I'll admit it, I don't take the best care of my gear, but rods in Japan are very expensive comparatively to the U.S. I decided to give this rod a try. The lite inshore stik was a great buy. I purchased the 7' 6" model & made it all the way to Japan, no problems. I've only had it for a month & it's already taken a beating. So far so good. I've caught everything from Mackerals to Flukes & everything else between, on it. The rod can handle just about any style of fishing or rig. From top water, live bait, lure, float, & bottom. It's really true about the tip's sensitivity, yet the rod still has some backbone to it. You can even notice the slightest of bites - (really useful for fluke fishing) I go fishing 3 or 4 times a week. So far I can honestly say, I'm satisfied with this product & I give it a 5 star rating. The only little draw back is it's a bit too whippy for heavier jigs, but hey, what do you want for the price? I'm sure you'll find this rod useful too, especially for the frequent fisherman. Tight lines!"
