Ugly Stik Lite

,
April 20, 2006
By Wild Man
from New Jersey
"I have used the 7Ft. medium action ugly stik lite on just about everything inshore, to include Flounder, white Perch, Weakfish, Stripers, and the occasional largemouth. This rod has a great feel, is very sensitive, has good hook setting power and is an overall joy to use. I love the cork grips which mate nicely to your hands. I have tossed lures with it and bottom fished with it as well. I have occasionally taken it out on charter boats for Flounder when I go out with friends, and I always catch more fish most of the people on the boat. I attribute this to the rod, because it is very sensitive. I have rods that cost three times the price but this is still my favorite, after four years of use."

Bad product amazing company

,
May 16, 2012
By Backwoodsreptileguy

Advantages: company was amazing when it broke
Disadvantages: Performance, Durability, breaks very easily about 6 inches above the handle, i believe the 5' rods are defective
"I had this rod for two days rated for 1-6 pound line I believe had 4 pound test line on and my rod broke with a fish on it but my line did not. Had the same problem with the exact same rod several days later. I contacted Shakespeare and they were more than happy to send me two new rods free of charge to replace the ones that had broken. I got the 5'2 spinning rod ugly stiks no problems I suggest you stay away from the 5 foot rods go 4'8 or 5'2"

Rod Guide Inserts - Missing In Action....

,
May 16, 2012
By azfisherman88
from Phoenix, AZ
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Durability
"I've used plenty of Ugly Stiks in my day, and I bought a couple of Lite Pros for my kids to start out with.
The rods handle well (not that my kids would notice) and are tough, EXCEPT for the fact that two of the guide inserts fell out of one of them, and one of them fell out of the other. I didn't have line in the rods at the time, as they were packed for camping, so the guide inserts are gone.
I've read several reviews here saying that their guide inserts fell out, but big deal, just glue them back in, and they still gave 5 star reviews. Not me. A rod known for its durability should be durable from top to bottom. Luckily I have a great local fishing gear repair shop nearby, and they fixed my issues. I added a tiny bead of expoxy to the seam where the guide inserts meet the guides to prevent further issues.
Shakespeare - beef up the adhesive that hold the rod guide inserts in place and you'll be back to 4-5 stars!"

ugly stik lite

,
May 4, 2012
By fishinfool18
from perry county ,PA
Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: weight of rod
"I have the 6'6" medium power rod. I mostly use it for a back up rod just b/c I like faster actions for the type of fishing I do. I have an abu garcia cardinal on it with 10lb mono. Works great for bottom fishing and it is a very strong rod. The only downfall is its weight. But for the money you can't go wrong. I've caught 17" smallmouth and 5-8lb catfish on it with no problem. I recommend this rod to anyone looking for good quality at a bargain price."

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: weight
"I have owned a 6' medium ugly stik lite for nearly 8 years. It has been a very dependable rod and I have caught many fish with it, mostly trout and bass. It is fairly sensitive, although it is a heavy. I would recommend it for anyone not looking for spend much money. There are better rods out there that cost more money, but this is still a very good one."

Great Rod! Great Price!

,
September 10, 2011
By Jaredt
from San Antonio, TX
Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
Disadvantages: only available in 2-piece in longer lengths
"I have always been a big fan of the ugly sticks because of price and durability given the fact that I don't baby any of my equipment. I was specifically looking for a light weight rod to pair up with a new 3000 class reel for a light weight inshore combo I could fish all day without any fatigue. The USL fit the bill and the budget and did not dissappoint. Was very pleased with the sensitivity and action of the 7' M action rod. My only complaint would be that I prefer a 1-piece rod and the 7' only comes in 2-piece unless you go for the inshore model. I didn't want the inshore model because the cork grip doesn't go over the reel seat which makes this particular rod very comfortable to fish over the course of a long day. I will definately be replacing a couple of older rods with these in the near future."

"These really are the toughest rods on the market, and can handle a beating. The only thing I dislike is the way the reel tightening is designed, it feels a bit too bulky. These are my go-to rods for fishing Bass, Pike, and other larger game species."

"I purchase the 4'6" Ugly Stik lite model and I couldn't be more pleased with it. The workmanship that went into this rod looks like it should be a more expensive rod, this rod just feels so right in your hand and it does not cost you a mild fortune either. Thanks BPS for a great product."
