"I bought this rod case for a fishing trip to Mexico.
I needed a rod case that would handle rods up to 7 feet 6 inches in length, I looked at several adjustable rod cases and I was not convinced they would protect my rods on a flight. Plano billed this case as virtually indistructable and it appears that is the case. A little difficult to unscrew the top but again once it is screwed back on it won't come undone. I can now travel witrh my expensive rods and not worry that they might be damaged."

I`ve been using this case and I`ve traveled many times with it and this case has shown very durable I`ve traveled from the caribbean seas to Brazilian beaches with no issues at all , is a great deal you won`t regret it !!!!!!!"

"Description says this is 3 inch diameter. Unfortunately the inner tube measures only 2-7/8", and the first guide of my surf rod just won't quite fit."

"I have had this travel tube/case for years and have been around the world with it. It has never failed to protect my gear! I usually only pack casting bass rods, and the large size holds SIX rods with ease. It adjusts easily to carry even my rods close to 8 feet long!!

Decent tube

"The adjusting mechanism is easy to use. Time will tell if I have any "shearing" problems as described in a previous review. The tube itself seems fairly solid. However, the handle seems a little flimsy. If you are flying on commercial airlines with your rods you may want to consider something a little more robust. If you are just using the tube to transport your rods in your car, canoe or boat this should be fine.
The tube is lockable. You will need 2 small padlocks - one for the lid and one for the length adjustment bracket."

"I bought this case based on high marks versus the low marks of other rod cases. I took it on a trip to the Carib last week. The "snap lock" around this case's "waist" locking mechanism never snapped tight. I had to tape over it so it would stay shut. The top cap-end closing system is also not so good. It's plastic on plastic small nub-fits-in-groove, wears out and becomes useless. A screw top would be better. I had to loop a zip-tie through the (thankfully) prepared holes to keep the top on, which the airline didn't like, so I had to tape extra zips to the side of the tube if TSA had to re-secure. The ULTIMATE problem is with the tube length expanding mechanism. This consists of a series of holes in the inner and outer tubes along an axis. At your desired length, you drop an interrupter pin that goes through the outer and inner tube that is secured by the previously referenced failed "snap lock". This interrupter is a frail molded plastic pin which WILL fail in modest shear (like allowing the case to drop, bounce or compress on end) which will result in either the case shortening and crushing your rods or the case separating and your rods coming out. My rods survived a one-way trip but I had to "create" a new anti-shear locking mechanism with other zip-ties (the new duct tape). Sorry this review is lengthy, but this case isn't good for airline travel without modification. Not sure if there is a good one. It would be OK for a car ride."

"I have flown with my rods several times, and in spite of airline luggage abuse, I have never had a damaged rod in my Plano Rod Case. The telescoping design makes it completely flexible for different needs. When not in use, it collapses to a much more managable size for storage. I have watched friends spend a lot more and arrive at their destination with broken tips. You can spend more, but this is the best rod case for the money!"
