Had to Modify

,
July 6, 2011
By Timber
Advantages: Design
Disadvantages: Difficult to use
"This tilter will not fit a 2009 25 HP Mercury EFI without modification. In order for it to grip the back of the motor you need to gear up an agle for the end of the horizontal bar and then come down about 4 ". Not a big task but it will cost you another 10bucks or so at a pipe shop."

Alittle Pricey

Advantages: Design, Durability
Disadvantages: Performance, Appearance
"I purchased this item to help avoid being accidently pulled into the water as I am off balance when I have to pull my 40HP motor out of the water. I gave this product a try and was amazed at the simplicity and ease to pull my motor up and out of the water as well as putting it back; with absolutely NO off balance and have complete control. The only NEGATIVE I have on this item is the lower bar that attaches to the opening on the back of the motor cover. That aluminum pipe I know is to be adjustable but when you find tune that adjustment by tightening the screw; well it just doesn't hold the aluminum pipe in place. FIX: I drilled a hole where the screw is right to the other side and retrofit it with a bolt and locknut to secure the pipe in its place. Now it works just great."

Advantages: Design, Durability
Disadvantages: a little salty cost wise
"The device is sturdy and is definitely a big help for tilting my old 70 HP Johnson. You still need to exert a significant effort but a lot of that may have to do with the condition of my tilt mechanism.
I'd recommend the product.

Excellent

"I have an older Merc 65 horse motor. I'm also 65 years old. This product has helped me avoid the next day sore back blues. I've now used my electric trolling motor more now since it's no big deal to lift the Merc out of the water. Unfortunately my grandson who also used it , let it drop into the lake on our last trip, now I have to buy another one before next spring. And I will."

"This product functions well and seems to be sturdy. After a couple of trips, the product began to rust. I fish in saltwater. The procuct may be better suited for fresh water."
