Boat Buddy Boat Buddy® Trailer Accessory

Spring-loaded, stainless steel bolt Non-marring pad Easy installation As your boat is driven onto the trailer, the bow eye contacts the Boat Buddy® and triggers a spring-loaded, stainless steel bolt through the bow eye, thereby attaching the boat to the trailer. Non-marring pad won't harm boat. Easy installation - replaces typical 3" or 4" wide roller assembly. Intended for use with U-bolt bow eyes. (Not recommended for cast bow eyes.)

Boat Buddy

,
April 5, 2012
By captain101
from Pineville, LA
Advantages: Design, High Quality, Value for money, Features
"Best thing since sliced bread. I have a heavy boat ( Ranger ) and have always when trailering my boat had problems with it sliding down the trailer. Either my buddy in the truck or me in the boat would have to secure the winch before pulling off the ramp. The Boat Buddy completely eliminates this problem, now all I do is drive the boat onto the trailer and my partner pulls the truck and boat off the ramp. Incredibly faster and no boat ramp hassles!"

NOT WORTH BUYING SAVE YOUR MONEY

Disadvantages: Difficult to use
"I have a 2008 Pro Team 170 and it would replace the roller but there was nowhere to put my safety strap and I wasn't drilling holes in my boat for the bow eye that came with it ( NOT WORTH THE MONEY ) so it;s going back to BPS"

Had to replace it...

,

Advantages: Design, Value for money, Features, easy replacement
Disadvantages: trickier 1st time installation???
"I bought my 2002 Malibu WakeSetter VLX new in 2001 with a trailer equipped with a Boat Buddy (1/2" version). I was instantly spoiled. It is so easy use use that I can't imagine recovering my boat in the "old manual" way. All you have to do is to ease the boat onto the trailer, let the bunks properly align it, nudge the throttle and the Boat Buddy does the rest. Unfortunately after ten years of use (and a little mistreatment on my part) the catch pin started sticking, so I had no choice but to replace it. Installation was a breeze with two half inch wrenches, and the new one works flawlessly. I'm guessing that first time installation might be harder."

not for me

Advantages: great idea
Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance
"while i think this is a good idea, it didn't work the best for me and my 1700 Super Hawk. i tried it in good conditions on a good ramp. i could not get it to snap shut. the eye loop needs to be larger/longer. the replacement loop that came with it was the exact same size. the idea is good just not for me. back in the box and back to the store next trip there."

Boat Buddy problem

,
June 13, 2011
By hankbass
from Friendswood, Texas
Disadvantages: dependent on bow eye size and location.
"Overall, the concept of the Boat Buddy seems like a good product however it did not work for me. The bow eye on my boat I believe is a stand size but it would not allow the boat buddy and my winch and small safety chain to go on the eye together. I would have had to change out the eye for a bigger one for it to work. I checked to see if it would work on my other boat but the bow eye is much lower and would have made it necessary for me to install a bow eye higher up for it to work on the winch on that boat.
I bet a lot of these get returned because of incompatibilities with the bow eyes."

"This thing rocks! I have a 2008 Ranger Z20 and I put this thing on and saved me a TON of time at the boat ramp. However, know that you'll need to put on a larger eye bolt so you can hook up your winch hook. The Boat Buddy comes with one so it's not a problem.

Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance
"graet idea but not enough info. Unless you have an extended bow hook or can install the one they send with the kit then don't get it it will not work. Unfortunaley i was not able to install the one sent with the kit due to obstructions. Also you will need a sharpe bow front. A rounded bow front will not let the hook trigger the lock. Ol well another wasted 100.00"

Really is a buddy

,
October 7, 2010
By CaptCHawk
from MD - Chesapeake Bay
Advantages: Design, Features
"This is my second Boat Buddy. My boat is borderline between the two sizes and I first purchased the small Buddy. After 3 years it was getting a little warn, so I purchased the larger size. I'm running a 20' 2" dual console, and the placement of the bow eye is out of reach from inside the boat. Since I fish alone most times I needed a way to hook to the trailer without having to jump to the dock with the engine in gear to hook up. The Boat Buddy is just what the doctor ordered. Just set the trigger before backing down the ramp, then drive the boat on and listen for the click. Simple as that , and drive up the ramp and secure for the trip home. The included replacement bow eye leaves room for your winch hook and safety hook while still pinned to the Buddy"

Good, not sure I trust it

,

Advantages: Features
Disadvantages: Quality
"I own a 2007 Triton TR186 and the boat buddy works fine when loading. The problem that I have now though is that the boat winch hook does not fit well at the same time in the bow eye. Also, after the first use, the bolt actually slipped out of the plate and it was nearly impossible to get it disengaged because the weight of the boat was now pulling against it. It is a good/neat product but I am not sure how much I trust it to keep my boat on the trailer and for it to last a long time."

"So far the Boat Buddy has not lived up to expectations....
Maybe after a few more tries and fine tuning it might. I have a Ranger 620 ( a very heavy and long boat) and the capture mechanism triggers before the Ubolt is in postion to receive .. Any suggestions would be appreciated..

Works well

"This product combined with guide poles on a trailer make it easy to recover your boat onto your trailer by yourself.
I wasn't sure which model to order to replace the one I've used with my Mastercraft Prostar 205 for 17 years. It turns out the model specified for boats 21' and over was the correct model for my boat/trailer combo.
Installation was quick and simple since I was just replacing the exact model, one for one.
I was surprised to see it comes with a 1/2 inch bow eye. This would be useful for someone who doesn't have a bow eye already installed."

Boat Buddy

,
July 14, 2010
By crownline
Advantages: Design, Features, self load
"This is the second one I have purchased, and only because someone stole it. I have a roller bunk trailer and a 23 foot cuddy cabin, loading the boat by myself is, well at best a pain in the butt. With the boat buddy all I have to do is center the bow good and the last 2 inches give a little throttle and SNAP! I listen for the latch and I know my boat is secure. If I have used and trusted this product with my heavy boat on rollers, I think anyone could. I would recommend using a bike flag near the latch to reference the center of the bow if yours is high like mine.
If I were to have a negative to this product it would be the thin layer of cushion over the metal. But if you hit it center every time you wont see any problem. Changing the tie down on the nose on some boats could be a challenge.

Advantages: High Quality, Value for money
Disadvantages: must know what you are doing
"I have had many boats with the boat buddy on the trailer. You must know how to load a boat on a trailer and the depth to put the trailer. if you know what you are doing it is hard to live without. I back the trailer into the water and my kids drive the boat up and it latches itself. you must attach your winch after you pull out of the water. love it"
