Weight Accuracy is off

,
August 22, 2011
By 358WINMAN
from Nothern NJ
Advantages: Ease of use
Disadvantages: Performance, inaccurate weights
"Purchased this scale 2 months ago and finally started using it in the last 2 tournaments I was in. Every time I weighed a fish, the other angler in my boat would say" are you sure? The fish looks bigger than that". Well, same thing happend at yesterday's tournament and when I came to the scales, my numbers were 11 oz lighter than the tourny scale. Eleven ounces! That can be the difference bewteen 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place! When I arrived home, I took a 10lb dumbell and weighed it on the scale. It weighed 9lbs, 5 oz. Proof was there. Then I weighed a 20 lb dumbell. it came in at 19lbs, .05 ounces. Thats huge when every ounce counts in a tournament. Since I cannot find a way to recalibrate this scale, it's going in the garbage... money wasted. Hope there's a much better scale out there!"

"I have had this scale for a few months and it has worked great. I weigh mostly LMB on it but it is capable of weighing fish up to 50lb. I take it with me every time I go fishing and it never malfunctions. It stands up to heat, cold, and rain. Great quality for the price! Nice compact size"

Weighing In

"I don't understand the bad reviews for this product. Maybe there is an issue with quality control, but the one I got has worked well for the past year on the original battery.
I had a Berkley that I thought was pretty easy to use and accurate, but I like this Rapala much better. You do need to know a few basic things about use. Hold down the button until it begins to flash to get it going, then let go. If you like lbs. over kgs., tap the button twice and the change over will hold until new battery time.
Very accurate; tested against 5 lbs. sacks of flour or sugar and accurate within .02 lbs. so I think the 5 lbs. Bass I weigh are really that heavy.
The weight hook is a little large, but used under the gill plate, it can easily be removed without damage to the fish."

Awful battery life

,
August 22, 2010
By Benning4528
from Michigan
Advantages: Ease of use
Disadvantages: Performance, battery life
"I purchased two of these Rapala Digital scales and wish I didn't. The Scale works well and is accurate ( I verified it). However, after installing brand new alkaline (good) batteries two times and using the scales a few times, letting it sit for two weeks, the scale doesn't work!!! We determined the scales must discharge the 9V batteries even while not in use and then the battery is dead. When you want to use it on your next fishing trip, the scale will not work. Therefore, you must discconnect the 9V battery after using it. Not very convenient and another thing to remember. Our past Berkley scales worked the whole summer plus on the same battery."

Great Scale

By MacAttack

Advantages: Performs well, Value for money, Quality, small
"Ok, i am an avid fishermen however i am only 14.
This is the first digital scale i have ever used and it works like a charm. It is simple enough for a nube to use and it is accurate enough for all you "pros" out there. It measures within a .01 lb! i checkd with dumbell. It is sensitive enough for sunnies and large enough for bass. Plus it is super small. Only down side is changin from kg to lb. You gotta double click the button when you start it.

What a waste!

,
June 26, 2010
By walkman
Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance, it's a scale that won't weigh anything
"Not a very good product. Does not turn on reliably. You have to hold the power button down for several seconds. Sometimes it come on, usually it doesn't. Sometimes when it comes on, it stays on for a couple of seconds and then shuts off - and won't come back on, or it comes on and as soon as you put the fish on to weigh, it shuts off. I have two other electronic scales that both work well and come on every time you press the button. This one is a waste of money."

Compact and Accurate!

Advantages: Performs well, Value for money
"Not knowing how big that last fish was before you released it used to bug me until I purchased this scale. Its nice to be able to keep track of your biggest fish. At first I was disappointed that the scale was defaulted in kgs, but it is easily changed into lbs. It should stay in lbs. until you change the battery. This scale is accurate as well. I tested using 5-10lb weights and the scale is still dead on even after about 8 months of use."

Rapala Fish Scale

,
September 30, 2009
By Bobe1783
from Richmond, VA
Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance
"Unfortunately, I am unable to get the scale to read in pounds and having the weight in Kg is of no use. I've tried repeatedly to change to pounds without success and will return the unit and buy something else. I needed a magnifing glass to see the Kg sysmbol. The readout is small and doesn't have a backlight. Maybe I just got a "bad" one but it isn't very impressive or useful."

Great bang for the buck!

,
July 23, 2009
By KaMeL
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money
Disadvantages: not waterproof
"I just received the scale therefore did not test it on the water, but so far I am very happy.
I checked the accuracy using various household items (salt, flour, etc) and compared to the kitchen scale. This rapala scale seems to be very accurate. It doesn't show fractions of the ounces but I doubt you will ever need that. In addition I also used 5lbs and 10 lbs gym weights and the accuracy was great.
This rapala can display weight in 2 units (3 modes) Mode 1: XX . XXX KG Mode 2: XX . XXX Lbs Mode 3 XX LBS XX Ounces
The only con is that it doesn't seem to be waterproof, but that's not a big deal!"

How to switch from Kilograms to pounds

,
June 14, 2009
By jalpino
Advantages: Style/Design
Disadvantages: no product manual
"I recently purchased this scale and I like it so far. The scale appears to be accurate and as another reviewer mentioned its great for weighing in 1 and 2 pounders or big boy lunkers.
One thing that caught me offguard was that the default unit of measure is (or at least for me) was Kilograms, without a manual it took me a few minutes to figure out how to switch to pounds. Heres how:
Hold down the button to turn it on, immediately after double tap the button, then press it again.
I'm not 100% sure those are the official instructions but it worked for me."
