St. Croix® Avid Series® Spinning Rods

St. Croix® Avid Series® Spinning Rods

Already one of the great rods of our time, the Avid is now even lighter, stronger, more sensitive, and superhuman than ever. Re-engineered high-modulus SCIV graphite blanks were built using exclusive IPC® technology to make the actions nice and crisp and put that "weightless" feeling in your rod hand. Black-framed Fuji® Alconite® Concept guides--light and sensitive--are the perfect complement, as are the precision Fuji reel seats. The select-grade cork handles have all been re-thought and re-shaped; for pure comfort and leverage, there's really nothing comparable! Manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty. Handcrafted in the USA. Action: UL = Ultra Light L = Light ML = Medium Light M = Medium MH = Medium Heavy

nothing better, November 19, 2009
By flatshatter from florida , volusia county

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"I own two of these rods a 7'mh and a 6'6m . They are the absolute best rods out . awsome power and extreme sensitivity. I also own g loomis also and they cant shake a stick at my croixs . Also they are less expensive . I cant say enough about them . I will never fish anything but them . And for those other highend rods like kistler they are way over rated . Croix all the way ."

Smallies Beware!!!!!!, September 3, 2009
By BassinButch from OH

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, light, very sensitive, plenty of back bone for a light rod

"I purchased a St. Croix Avid spinning rod last week. I bought the 7 foot medium light model. I own a Premiere and a Mojo in 7 foot medium light and since this is my " go to" spinning rod set up for smallies, I decided to kick it up a notch. I used this rod for shakee head, tube and light football head jigs in my favorite smallie water. What an absolute pleasure to use. This rod is in a whole other realm than my other ML rods. I have a Saros 2500 on it with 8lb P- Line Floroclear and it is a smallie killer. I also took it out Largemouth fishing two days ago and used a finesse worm with a tungsten bullet weight. I could not believe how sensitive the rod was. What a nice purchase. I have all Premiere and Mojo's for my baitcasters but I think I will have to add an Avid trigger rod very, very soon. Made in the U.S.A - Baby!!!!"

My rod of choice!, July 11, 2009
By Osirus from Pittsburgh, PA

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money, just as good as rods costing much more!
Disadvantages: makes you sad if you paid more for a rod.

"I feel so bad about writing this review because I actually prefer my 2 Avids over my G. Loomis IMX, and even my GLX. I own a AVS66MF that I use for river and lake smallies and largemouth bass. I also own a AVS56ULF2 that I use for creek smallies, trout, and sunfish. Maybe it's just me, or maybe there's something wrong with my hands, but my Avid seems to be just as sensitive, or even more so than my IMX! Believe me when I say that I was more than a little shocked (and kind of upset) to find that the St. Croix Avid is just as sensitive and powerful as my IMX. The power and sensitivity of the St. Croix Avid are, in my opinion, way too close for comfort to my GLX. What did I spend the extra $100 - $150 for? Oh well, lesson learned, right?

In hard economic times like these, getting the best value for your money is of paramount importance. I'm telling you right now, take it from a guy who has used some of the best rods ever made, the St. Croix Avid is the best bang for your buck by far!

WOW, July 1, 2009
By northwoodsangler from Central Illinois

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"I am so glad I decided to spend the money for a high quality rod. I bought a 7ft, 1 piece, ML, with a fast tip specificaly to fish for Walleyes with light jigs and wow was I impressed. I used a Shimano Sedona2500 with 6lb fireline with this rod and the sensitivity was absolutely unbelievable. I am hooked for life on these rods. Along with walleye I have caught smallies, northern pike, white bass, crappie, carp up to 18 lbs. The rod has met and surpassed all expectations. The light weight is also nice when you are jigging or casting all day. Well worth the money and will be buying more of these in the future for sure."

One of the finest quality rods available., July 26, 2008
By sierrafishing

"I have always been budget conscious which is why the higher price of the St. Croix rod over other inferior rods had kept me from purchasing one. However, after using the St. Croix ultra light 5'6" avid series rod, I feel that the price is quite a bargain for what you get compared to other cheaper rods of lesser quality. The first time I picked up this rod I thought it was as much a work of art as a quality fishing tool. The design is excellent, the components are of the highest quality and the craftsmanship is flawless. Perfect guide spacing and alignment, a comfortable and well placed reel seat and handles, and an ultra sensitive blank make these rods an absolute pleasure to fish and they are crafted in the U.S.A.! I attribute many fish I have caught to the ultra sensitive blank. I am amazed at just how sensitive this rod is compared to other rods I have used. Although the price is still a little steep for me, I would rather save my money and buy one St. Croix rod than ten of any other lower priced rod. After fishing with the best, I would not be happy to settle for anything less."

Wish I had purchased a long time ago!, July 23, 2008
By RStien321 from Ames, IA

"I recently purchased a 6'6 UL and a 6'6 M rod for panfish and walleye/bass respectively. Incredible fishing experiences with the ultra-light. I can feel ever bouce of my jig and the slightest bite while crappie fishing which came in handy bringing in a beautiful 14" this spring. It's a joy to fish with, and I really couldn't imagine fishing with anything else.

I've used the Medium power rod for bass fishing, and have been very pleased thus far, and I am plannig on giving it the one over in Canada and Wisconsin later this summer. Do yourself a favor and spend a little money on a quality rod. You definitely won't regret it!!!

Well made, July 11, 2008

"The AVID is an excellent rod which is strong, sensitive, and durable. It holds up very well to saltwater use and can land considerably large fish. The overall build quality of this rod is excellent and the fit and finish is fantastic."

Hooked for life!, June 18, 2008
By Bassman25 from South Sioux City,NE

"This is the first St. Croix rod that I have ever purchased and I cant believe how nice they are built. I have the 7' ML 1-piece rod, and I could almost swear that you can feel the barb on the hook go through the fish's mouth, thats how sensitive it is. I have it paired up with the Pflueger Supreme with 8# fireline and I mainly throw crankbaits with this rod. The rod has enough backbone to take in 5# bass and everyonce in awhile a good sized northernpike. Over all it is the best rod I have ever used and it was worth the money by far and it has already paid for itself in all the good memories I have with this rod. Thanks St. Croix"

Great Trout Rod!, May 27, 2008
By BuggerDragger from Avondale, Arizona

"I recently purchased the new Avid model AVS66-2 (6'6" 2 piece light) as a "back-up" rod for a trip to Alaska. I love to fly fish, but know that it's not always possible (wind)...well, as expected, I got a chance to try the rod. It was extremely light in hand, and had sufficient backbone and power to cast a wide array of spinners. The Avid has a very sensitive feel and I was able to catch several nice grayling with it. It's responsive enough to immediately feel every strike and I felt very confident fishing with it - its a wonderful rod - to say I was not disappointed is a big understatement! The rod has a beautiful blank, with outstanding components and workmanship. I'm especially fond of the new redesigned skeletal cork handle (the front of the handle is shorter, allowing you to contact the blank with your finger). In my opinion, the Avid offers an excellent alternative to the higher priced G. Loomis GL3 rods. I definitely prefer the handle on the Avid, as I find the downlocking handle on the GL3 somewhat cumbersome. The Avid SCIII IPC blank is every bit as sensitive as the GL3, maybe even more so. If you are considering a G. Loomis GL3 spinning rod for trout, you owe it to yourself to check out the St. Croix Avid as well. You just might change your preference! For $80 less, I'll take the Avid!"

Stepping on up from a Triumph, February 19, 2008
By BassJunky from Kingston, On

"Last year I purchased a triumph after having some success on the ice with st croix legends. I likes the look and feel of the triumph so I decided to give an avid a try...Wow what an improvment, they are much lighter then the triumphs with the same well built quality and feel to them, they have a sturdy backbone and hairpin sensativity..the price is also right ..."
