Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"i purchased one about 3 years ago. last summer i accidently got the line of another cheeper reel and rod combo caught in the trolling motor, it fell in the lake in deep water and i lost it. no other reel and rod combo entered my mind to get but the midas. The first time i went to Bass Pro Shop in Kodak Tn I got me a new one, the new one is even better than my older one. the rod is even smaller in diamiter, and more sensitive than my older combo. I have a G-Loomis rod which costed 4 times more and it is just as good for a lot less money. browning midas reels and rods rule. if you are into serious bass fishing you hafta give one a try."

First bass I caught on the Midas Baitcaster, 7 lbs
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"This is my second baitcaster to date, my other one is also a browning 10 ball bearing system as well. For some reason this baitcaster is so much better that my other one despite being the same gear ratio and 10 ball bearing system. This baitcaster throws smooth and reels fast. Hardly any backlash despite me being a beginner on a baitcast reel. The only problem ive had is that the handles will bend if you set the hook as hard as i do lol, but you can just bend them back and continue fishing with it. This thing catches hawgs too as you can see in the picture!"

"I bought several of these seperate and the rods can't be beat but the reels are terrible. I had several reels and finally got them to take them back The reels will overload on one side and the braking system is not good."

Can not find a better deal,November 4, 2008
By HondoSmithfrom Arkansas river valley
"I have been fishing for nearly thirty years and have been using baitcasting rods for twenty five. I used to maintain several different combos and everytime I would switch reels it would take half an hour to get used to the one I was using it was bad. then I started trying to use the same types of reels but I could not afford to go buy 4 or 5 at one time just about the time I would get about where I wanted the reel that I would use would be redesigned and I would have to start all over. Any way I tried the browning midas combo and it seemed like an excellent set up. I bought my first one five years ago and am still using 3 out of 4 I fish on average of 2 times per week 4+ hours at a time year round. The rods are super sensitive due to the boron matrix which also makes them very hard you have to be carefull about hitting them on objects that are hard I think it cracks them. then you set the hook and they break I have done this twice once on a new rod that was replaced the second time on one of my older rod now I have a spare reel. I like the modifications to the reels except for one flaw on the structure of the reel, when they changed to the dual break they also added a small protrusion to the bottom of the reel on the handle side which is uncomfortable when you are fighting fish. These rods handle braided lines ok and the reels have no problem if you use a light braid you have to be careful in the wind it tends to wrap up on the tip of the rod and since the rods are hard you may break it if you do not unwrap by hand."

Unsatisfied,June 17, 2008
By TennesseeBfrom Tennessee
"I have purchased this combo one year ago and used it on a Canadian fishing trip with only moderate success. Three months ago I used the combo on 2 fishing trips and the retrieve mechanism began to malfunction. The line would stack up on the left side of the reel. I returned the combo to the Sevierville Bass Pro and they were willing to replace it for a new combo. I took the new combo on my recent trip to Canada and have never been more disappointed in a reel. The advanced fail safe dual breaking system is a total disaster. I have been using Ambassadeur bate casting reels from the time they were introduced on the market. I know how to use a batecasting reel.Using the Midas reel casting with the wind was moderately successful. Casting with no wind or into the wind the loading of the bate changes in mid-cast fortuately I had my Ambassadeur 5500C with me and it worked to prefection. I became so frustrated I placed the Midas in the rod box where it stayed. In my opinion you folks have over engineered with the fail safe dual braking system and have a product I would NOT recommend."

Best combo ever!!,February 23, 2008
By mikethefisherdudefrom Knoxville
"I recently got into the baitcaster type combos (having fished exclusively spinning reels for years). I wanted my first combo to be very nice and this is the one I chose. I found it on sale (very rare) and jumped on the bargain - I wish I had bought more than one. It is truely the most awesome fishing rod I've ever owned (and I've got a garage full). Trust me, you won't be disappointed, whether you're new to baitcasters or an old pro. The quality is there, along with fit and finish. I seldom have backlash issues due to the dual braking system. The rod itself is very high quality. I really don't have the words to describe how much I love this combo - it exceeds every expectation and I'm glad I started my baitcaster adventure with this unit. You won't be disappointed...my advice, buy two of them (at least)."
