"I decided to write this review because I read all of the reviews pertaining to the tents I was considering to buy. Because of what I read I bought this tent. Thank you to those of you that take the time to write these reviews. It's hard to begin to describe the quality and durability of this tent. The first time set up was very easy. I did it by myself in minimal time minus the rain fly. I am 5'4 and suggest if you are short to slip the rain fly over before standing the tent up with the last three main poles. All of the poles are color coded and the part of the tent the pole is suppose to go to matches that color. There is no guess work. All you have to do is memorize the first two colors that need to be match up and put in place first then you don't even need the manual. I have not used the manual since the first set up. The poles are shock corded, so you do not have to figure out what part of what piece of the poles go together. These are very durable, high quality poles. The first time I used the tent we were hit with the worse rains of the year and were beaten with 47 mph direct winds. No leaking, no damage. That's straight out of the box. I have not sealed the tent. Third, time I used the tent it was another hard rain with 42 mph winds and 27 degrees outside. The weather was predicted to be nice. So we were not as prepared as we could have been for the harsh temperatures and rains. Even with that said we stayed warm and dry yet again. I've also used this tent in the Texas summer heat. When it's 9 am and already 92 you know your in Texas. By early afternoon it was creeping close to triple digits. In one half of the tent it has two small windows towards the floor. Unzip these and you can really tell the circulation of air flow is good even on a relatively still hot day. The entire tent has tons of windows including on the roof. Great airflow. Another great attribute of this tent is it's near straight up side walls. This greatly increases the room inside of the tent. This is a tent that is very friendly for tall people as well as short. In the middle of the tent you have the option of zipping up two doors. We used it to create privacy when changing. You can also zip the material down from the doors to create large windows. While still being protected from the mosquito's and other bugs by the mesh. The front room has two doors which is very convenient when dealing with different types terrain, camp layouts, and in snow because you can exit on either side of the tent. You can also use the front half of the tent as a sun room and the back half as your bedroom. The tent also comes with a few nice extras: a durable carry bag with wheels, handles, and also unzips in the middle to let out more room in the bag. Two movable hanging cup holders. A three level storage compartment that hangs out of the way. And a mesh ceiling gear compartment. I use this tent for camping, in the back yard, fishing, and hunting trips. I have used it numerous times and strongly suggest this tent to a beginner camper looking for ease of use or to a seasoned outdoors man or women that is looking for true quality. I trust this tent with my adventures. This is a wonderful all season tent."

Did not leak one drop.
Advantages: Ease of use, Quality, Well made/Durable
"This tent is absolutely the best. I wanted a large tent because I have a bad back and don't want to crawl around in a small tent. The intereior height is about 6'6". I literally put this tent up all by myself in about 30 min. It's very easy to assemble with color coded poles. The quality and construction of the tent make it worth every penny. It also comes with a really nice wheeled bag for storing the tent when not assembled.
My wife and I took this tent 5500ft. up into the San Jacinto mountains and we were surprised with 2 inches of snow in about 5 hours. This tent did not leak AT ALL and kept us very warm and dry. All of the windows are great. We couldn't be any happier."

Excellent Tent for Big Family,
May 13, 2009
By FMRCarrfrom Houston, TX
Advantages: Ease of use, Long lasting, Quality, Well made/Durable
"This is actually our third tent and the first one to make it to a second camp out. It is very rugged and sturdy. So far it has stood up to two rain storms and 40 mph wind. It is surprisingly easy to set up even for one person. My favorite feature is the air flow, even in the rain we stayed cool and in South East Texas that is a big plus."

Great Tent,
March 17, 2009
By Cloudman54from OFallon MO
"We purchased this tent from Bass Pro last fall and went camping at Lake of the Ozarks State Park and we has just enough time to get the tent up before it started raining and it rained for 3 day straight and it was a hard rain. The tent did not get wet on the inside the whole time that it rained. When the rain stopped it got hot and with all the windows in this tent it stayed nice and cool.
It was really easy to put up had no problem what so ever. I would recommend this tent to any family that loves to camp it is well worth the money that you pay for it."

Really roomy with options,
February 28, 2009
By Beaglebuddyfrom Tampa, FL
"The Cougar Flats tent is roomy and has great air circulation. If you live in a warm weather state, air circulation is important. There are many options with 2 rooms, 2 doors, several windows and skylights. The set up is easy without instructions. The poles are color coded and honestly looking at the picture on the tent box helped the most."

Worth the money,
February 17, 2009
By ChrisAfrom Shrevpoert, LA
"Did alot of research on-line. This was the only tent that didn't have negative reviews. I purchased the tent and sealed the seams as recommended on previous ratings and set off to camp. It rained the day we set up camp and off and on one night and not one leak. This tent is well worth the money. I would purchase it again and highly recommend it to other campers."

Great tent,

"I bought this tent because of the reviews it received. I was not disappointed. The tent is rainproof and holds up really well in high winds. It stood through 50 m.p.h. winds generated during severe thunderstorms this year and remained dry inside the whole time."

We wish the divider could be taken out but it isn't a problem! We really enjoy this tent especially the upright style of the tent walls, it offers much more room!"

Great tent....,
October 21, 2008
By Sandman702from Las Vegas, Nv
"This is a great tent. I actually received a Coleman tent for Xmas which was ripped apart by the wind the first time I used it. I took it back to Bass Pro and they glady exchanged it for the Columbia. The first time I got to use it we woke up to about three inches of snow on the ground and the roof held strong. Also we had up to 40 mph gusts and the tent held strong. I would not recommend this this tent for cold weather due to mesh screen top,it doesn't hold the heat at all. But im sure it would be great for spring or summer camps which I will be glad to use it on. Its got plenty of room for gear and sleeping arrangements. The setup takes a little bit of doing but the color coded poles helps alot. Just a suggestion, buy better tent stakes the ones they give you pull out real easy. I would gladly recommend this tent to anyone who loves a great product. Happy Camping"

it was a great buy,
October 19, 2008
By newcamperfrom Moore Oklahoma
"I bought this tent only after much review of many tents. Size & quality was on my mind. With the many reviews that i read about this tent in mind we started to set the thing up. 1st and formost, the set-up instructions are confusing at best, it will take 2 people to set-up. after figuring out the instructions we had no problem setting the tent up. We had 2 people and a dog in one room and all our gear in the other room with alot of room to spare. With all windows zipped and rainfly on the airflow was minimal ( with the temp. at 39 that was a concern ). Some reviewers had trouble with thier zippers, but we did not experience that, they all worked great. We took the tent down with no problems. I believe we can set-up the tent next time in about 20 minutes."

Excellent Tent, alot of headroom & ventilation,
October 14, 2008
By Lyndafrom Kennesaw, Georgia
"We are very happy with our purchase. We have a raised queen air mattress' and fit two into the tent with plenty of extra room. Love the hanging cup holders too.
I really like all the ventilation between the doors, windows & roof. The view of the night sky is wonderful from this tent.
The only negative is as mentioned in the other reviews. The Door Zippers get caught in the material alot. You definately need two hands to unzip them. One hand to hold the material taught, & the other to zip it. You still need to be careful. However, the reason it is difficult is due to the bathtub style floor which makes the trouble all worth while. A very heavy object placed under the door zipper will help.
Very durable tent. Great for a family of 4 (or 5) with Queen-sized air mattresses. Can definately squeeze in more without the air mattresses. Color-coded poles makes the set-up a breeze after the first time."

I Love this tent!,
August 26, 2008
By kayakchicfrom Ozark Mountains, Missouri
"As you will notice in other reviews, it is a little hard to assemble the first go around but after a few times I have managed to set this really huge tent up all by myself and I am a small 5'4" girl. If you have help, then it takes no time at all to erect this tent.
The Cougar Flats tent has heavy duty zippers that float around so I was able to place them at the top of the doors so my 2 year old couldn't reach them. Nice Feature!
Suggestion: place a large rock at the bottom of the door to make the material extra tight. This allows for easy opening of the doors. I beleive that this is not a flaw but merely caused by the bath tub style floor. It cannot be anchored to the ground.
I have went through 2 severe thunderstorms, heavy rains and lots of windy days....This tent withstands it all! Caution: You must stake down all the guy line wires on the fly or rain will collect causing a pool on top. Otherwise it does not leak.
The pop out windows are excellent for ventalation when it rains because you can leave them all the way open. My only complaint about this tent is that the tiny little poles on these windows seem to split and break. I will be ordering replacements versus buying a new tent because I love everything about this Cougar Flats.
Very roomy, very tall and the super large bay window makes it almost like a screen room. I am short but even with a step stool I still cannot touch the roof. I use one side for the bedroom and the other side as a livingroom. I have a double queen air bed and 6 duffle bags lined up on the edge and still have room to walk and change cloths. The other side I have 2 chairs plus a pretty large table and still have plenty of play room for my child, other gear or even space for his sleeping bag.
I am only giving this tent 4 stars because of the window poles that split. If I can buy replacements then I wouldn't hesitate buying the same tent again."

Awesome Tent!,
August 22, 2008
By HapPyGiLMorefrom Toronto, Canada
"The Best Family Tent Around! Very Comfortable, Envious Design, and extremely Spacious! A Hot Selling tent at Bass Pro Shops. Had to wait a couple of weeks for a new shipment to arrive. Easy to set up, first time around took awhile due to the instruction manual which just confuses you more. Avoid some of the wordy instruction details; this tent was made for those who dont like to read. Colour coded poles with different diameters and lengths, makes this a breeze to set-up. The air venting system is spectacular; built for those who like to let out gas. Two tall separate rooms are divided by a screen divider that can be completely zipped up to elude prying eyes and ensure privacy. Pitched it up during our family camp group site outing; ended up lodging all our relatives kids with ours in the front room because they said it was the "coolest kids room around!" I love camping and this is a must have tent for any family. Worth every penny! Wished it was on sale though. All its missing is a flat screen TV mount!"

"everything was fine until the tent had to come down at which point even with 3 people holding it up the tent pole just broke in half as soon as you took off the rain cover and started unstaking it they just snapped right in half. I have camped and put up tents for many year and the integrity of the poles in this one need some work."

"What a great tent, we purchased this tent to replace an older tent we had that was kind of small. This one has lots of room and it's tall so you can actually stand up in it and move around. Major complaint would be that the instructions are not very clear and we had to stumbled through the assembly the first time. After that it's a breeze to put up."

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT !,
August 11, 2008
By Campaholicsfrom Woods of Maine
"This tent ROCKS! I enjoyed camping in this tent BETTER than in the camper! Its HUGE! And very waterproof! Set up was a bit tricky the first time around, but VERY simple once you figure it out! I learned its very important to stake rain fly to ground. Its seemed to collect water if you didnt, but it still NEVER leaked a drop! It held enough gear for a family of four INSIDE the tent (all but coolers) and there was STILL enough room to stretch and not feel cramped! The screen side is awesome! You dont even feel like youre in a tent. Im 5'9" and I could stand straight inside and had to reach to touch the top of the tent. I highly recommend this tent to anyone. Single or a family of 8. It's perfect. It's quality for sure!"

Camping Newbies Give 5 Stars,
August 5, 2008
By AJHuttonfrom Phoenix, AZ
"I haven't been recreational camping in 20 years, and bought this tent for my family of 5 for our first foray into family camping. It was easy to set up - my wife (who's never been camping) and I set it up by flashlight in 30-40 minutes. In other words, 2 newbies set it up easily. We cut out the box picture to help, though. No leaks in the rains that came the next couple days. It all rolled up into the carrying case with little trouble. We love the tent, can't wait to go camping again with this tent."

This is a great tent - just buy it!!,
July 20, 2008
By Anonymous Reviewerfrom Michigan
"This is a great tent. After returning another tent I purchased from another store that would not stay up, I went to Bass Pro Shops in search of a tent. I bought this one, and I coudn't be more pleased with it. This is a fairly easy tent to assemble, and very solid. After you know where all the poles go, you can easily put it up in 20-30 minutes. It is easier to assemble with 2 people, but I put it up by myself the first time. (The hardest part for me was figuringing out where the angled pole went on the canopy. I had to go back into Bass Pro Shops and get some help to figure it out.)
This tent has more than enough room for my wife, our lab, and myself. My sister also joined us with her two toddlers. We put two queen sized blow up mattresses and a baby crib in the tent. There was plenty of room for our suitcases as well.
The last night of our camping trip it stormed. It poured for several hours, the wind blew, and it hailed. The tent stayed up and we stayed dry. Only a couple of tablespoons of water to wipe up.
This is a no brainer, just buy it.."
