NOT WORTH THE MONEY!,
January 24, 2010

Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance, Quality
"PURCHASED THIS SLICER TO GO RIGHT ALONG WITH MY DEHYDRATOR AND RECEIVED IT ON CHRISTMAS EVE 2009. EXACTLY ONE MONTH TO THAT DATE, AND ONLY TWO USES INTO IT, WHILE SLICING A 5LB HAM, THE MOTOR FRIES. THE SMELL OF ELECTRICAL BURN WAS RIDICULOUS.
ON ANOTHER NOTE, WHILE I HAVE GRANITE COUNTER-TOPS IN MY HOME, THE SUCTION CUPS WILL NOT STICK TO THEM. SO, WHEN I'M TRYING TO SLICE, I AM ALSO TRYING TO BRACE THE UNIT DOWN WITH MY RIGHT ARM SO IT DOESN'T GO FLYING ACROSS MY COUNTER. MISERABLE SLICER AT BEST. IT'S ON ITS WAY BACK TO BASS-PRO ONLINE IN THE MORNING. WILL CONTINUE MY SEARCH FOR A COMMERCIAL GRADE. FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS, YOU JUST SHOULD NOT GO CHEAP, OR YOU'LL CERTAINLY BE DISAPPOINTED.

Not So Great,

"I purchased this product for at home use - just to slice deli type turkey breast and ham. After using it a total of 6 or 7 times, the motor has burned out. I would definitely suggest purchasing a better product."

"I BOUGHT THIS SLICER AND USED IT MOSTLY FOR SLICING POTATOES AND JERKY MEAT. IT WORKED PRETTY GOOD, BUT THE INTERNAL GEARS ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND STRIPPED OUT UNDER NORMAL USAGE.WOULD BE GREAT IF THE GEARS WERE METAL."

Open Country Slicer - Very Happy,
July 26, 2007
By Jerky Man
"I am very happy with this slicer.
I bought it to cut pieces of venison into even strips for making jerky.
I remove the roast from the freezer and let it mostly thaw. While it is still slightly frozen I slice strips about 1/4 inch thick (marinate and then dehydate).
I have been making jerky like this for several years and I bought a very cheap folding slicer for $60 a few years ago. The old slicer had a couple of problems, it sliced unenly, was hard to clean and the motor/blade would stall a lot when slicing semi-frozen roasts.
I bought the Open Country slicer because of the problems just stated, and because it was made by the same people who make my dehydrator.
The Open Country slicer didn't have any of the problems my folding slicer had. It had no problem cutting through a partly frozen roasts. The feeder operates smothly and the depth adjustment was very accurate (constant thickness=even results with jerky).
The folding slicer was always difficult to clean, but I was happy with the way the new slicer cleaned up. The feeder tray flips forward and the blade removes using a quarter to unscrew the hub.
I did consider going with a high end slicer in the $300-400 range. There is no doubt that those slicers are much nicer than this one, but given how often I use it, and what I use it for, I am very happy I got this one."
