"I am very happy with this slicer.
I bought it to cut pieces of venison into even strips for making jerky.
I remove the roast from the freezer and let it mostly thaw. While it is still slightly frozen I slice strips about 1/4 inch thick (marinate and then dehydate).
I have been making jerky like this for several years and I bought a very cheap folding slicer for $60 a few years ago. The old slicer had a couple of problems, it sliced unenly, was hard to clean and the motor/blade would stall a lot when slicing semi-frozen roasts.
I bought the Open Country slicer because of the problems just stated, and because it was made by the same people who make my dehydrator.
The Open Country slicer didn't have any of the problems my folding slicer had. It had no problem cutting through a partly frozen roasts. The feeder operates smothly and the depth adjustment was very accurate (constant thickness=even results with jerky).
The folding slicer was always difficult to clean, but I was happy with the way the new slicer cleaned up. The feeder tray flips forward and the blade removes using a quarter to unscrew the hub.
I did consider going with a high end slicer in the $300-400 range. There is no doubt that those slicers are much nicer than this one, but given how often I use it, and what I use it for, I am very happy I got this one."
