50LB. 2-Speed Reel, December 14, 2008
By FishinCorpsman from Oceanside, CA

"Bought this reel as a 50lb. set-up for two-day trips out of San Diego. Broke the reel in fishing rockfish this winter, playing with the two speed option and worked like a charm. Switching between gears was smooth and worked like a winch. Can't wait for this summer to try out on the pelagics. Stand by for follow-up report. This reel has its unique feel from Avet reels and it's made in the US."

Best Bang for the Buck!, September 15, 2008
By MaxZmus from San Diego, CA

"Avet Reels as a company is nowhere near the size of Shimano or Daiwa. I must admit I was a little reluctant to try one out. I just liked the idea of having a 2 speed reel in a small package. Neither Shimano, Daiwa, nor Accurate has anything to compete with these reels in terms of compact sized 2 speed reels below $400.00. Hence my decision to "pull the trigger" as one would say.

Pros: Strong and smooth lever drag. These reels also have some of the best freespool out of the box without modifying the spool bearings or spending extra money to obtain more drag strength. I simply love the fact that you can cast a surface iron and retrieve it at high speed then switch it to low gear to winch the fish in without much effort. The problem I used to have with my Daiwa Sealine X and Shimano Trinidads were, the handle would turn but the spool would not turn to bring in any line. This usually occurs during the beginning of the battle and the fish are still making strong pulls and runs. With the low gear engaged on my Avet I no longer have this issue. The spool turns with every handle turned bringing the fish in with ease. I also like the fact that Avet has reels that cover the entire spectrum. Anything from the tiny SX all the way to the giant T-Rex series for BIG offshore gamefish, even though all you really need is their 4/0 series on down to spank just about any gamefish out there.

Cons: A few things I don't like are the fact that these reels don't have the INFINITE ANTI-REVERSE that I've come to love. There are anti-reverse bearings available to solve this issue however it's just a hassle to track it down and have it installed. A small issue that I've choosen to live live with since I don't feel it's really needed just one of those features that are nice to have. Since these are lever drags and not star drags, they lack a braking system, so without a trained thumb you will most likely be dealing with backlashes more than you would compared to a star drag with an extra braking system. I also hate the fact that these reels made me sell off all my Trinidads and Sealines. Yes... I am biased towards Shimano and Daiwa products but even a loyal fan like me knows when to admit it when I see a superior product from a lesser known manufacturer.

Avet reels are simply the Best Bang for the Buck out there currently!

"I went fishing last wed at the Coronado Islands and used my friends Avet and fell in love instantly with it. It is so smooth reeling in tough fighting albies and yellow fins were a breeze. I could not belive how smooth it reels, you have to try one for yourself."

WOW what a reel!, May 18, 2008
By ej990 from Long Beach, CA

"Just got back from an overnighter, and this reel was great. Brought in two 25+ lb yellow tails with no problem. I'm donating all my other reels to charity, and buying two more AVET's."

"This reel is for serious anglers. Well rounded from pelagic to Bottom Monsters. I was wondering why Bass Pro just started selling this later part of 2007. I personally met the owners and they are also anglers . You can rely both combinations My only advice Train your thumb because it flies like a rocket. Also pls Break in the drag before catching a big Fish. How ? It come preset drag from factory. Push to Strike then tie a knot to your truck trailer hitch then let the truck go 200 yards. Its ready to fish. Don't wind the truck it won't move. :-) Warranty is excellent. You don't have to beg."
