"this is beyoud the best pole i have ever used and has lasted through hail,rain and regular sunny days. i also used this in canana and cought trout. i used a 6.6'' rod for a deadly combo. this reel is my greatest and i use it every trip i go on with a couple other combos but over all this is my top reel. its extra smooth and isnt complicated. good second or third reel for a moderate fisher"

"Pretty disappointed in this reel after a few short months. The bail is snapping shut while casting, causing me to lose a couple of lures. The drag system has been slowly failing, as another reviewer mentioned sometimes it doesn't work at all. I had the 1500 for 6lb line and lost a couple good fish because the drag would fail and line would break. Disappointed in this Daiwa, returning it this weeked."

"I purchased the Regal 2500 XiA at the beginning of the season last year. At first I was very pleased with it. This year though, it has become very noisy and the bail sticks open at times. I've taken it apart twice to lube and grease and that seemed to help for a short while. I thought Daiwa would make a good reel not matter what the cost but this one grinds and whines. I've had $15 reels that have lasted years. I certainly got a lemon."

"I was really excited when I bought this reel. Diawa makes good stuff right? Well the bail wouldn't close automatically and the drag works when it feels like it. I had the bail spring adjusted and that now works, but the drag problem is just that - a drag. I was really disappointed."

"I got stuck on baitcasters for some time but decided to go back to a spinning reel due to the fact most of my fishing is finnese fishing. All I fish for is bass. This is a very nice real, sturdy yet not too heavy, absolutely no problems, very smooth, all round smooth. Most line twist can be contributed to line. I use Trilene XL or Excel when using mono. Even if you use a swivel there will be line twist no matter how good the line eventually but something about the shape of the bail I suppose on this reel even eliminates that.
Buy it and you will not be sorry."

Perfect Low Cost Spinning Reel for Saltwater,

"This is quite an amazing reel for the price. Last summer, I went fishing in Miami, FL, and took this reel and one of my bait casters with me. But this revieve is about this reel, the Daiwa Regal 4000 Xia. I had mine spooled up with 30lb sufix braid and a 20lb mono leader at the end and it was set on a 6'6 Shake Spear Ugly- Stick- Medium Heavy action. I can say that I have caught more than 80 Spanish Mackerals on it, and they put up a nice fight for their size. I have also caught 8 Jacks, 10 Baracuda, a few grouper, 4 Bonitos, 12 dorado,- 2 medium sized bulls, and 2 small sailfish,- each one about 4 1/2 feet in length. One of the best fishing days I have ever had. I was using the 4000Xia and is super durable but I just got the 2500Xia last week and I have it loaded with 6lb mono and is great for bass and trout. It can cast over a mile even with a half ounce weight on it, I have had no line twist, and has a very smooth drag. I am still currntly using this reel today and have only had to re- lube it only once. Great reel and I hope you will get one and have a great experience with it as I have had."

"Ive been using this reel for about six months on a 7" ML rod. i use it for both LMB fishing as well as saltwater flats fishing for specs and redfish. It is perfectly suited for both. I usually have 30# braid for the monster bass around lilly pads. It casts a mile, especially the spro frogs!!!! The drag is amazing. Have had NO issues. I guess the 2 or 3 bad reviewers got lemons and im sure diawa would have gladly swapped them out. Great value. I wouldnt hesitate to recomend this to a friend"

"The reel has been reliable but it isn't smooth or quiet during the retrieve. Other than that I can't complain. I have a family member with the same reel and it is the same way. I can't complain since it has hauled in a 5 lb LMB that buried itself in a weed bed. Thank goodness for the reel and 20lb Suffix braid!"

"For the price you're getting Daiwa quality. I would say this is an excellent backup to you're #1 rig. I use mine when I'm camping cause I'm not worried about getting it mucked up or dinged around. I don't think that anyone would mind using this for panfish or bass fishing."

"I bought 2 1500's and 1 4000 at Bass Pro. The two 1500's have a nasty habbit of slamming the bail shut in the middle of a cast, sometime 4 or 5 times in succession. The 4000 I have had no trouble with. I am takeing them back and hope they can solve this problem."

"I matched this reel with a Team Daiwa rod 7" rod, and the largest regal offered. Too much flex in the body of reel when fishing a fish. Gears all ready feel rough, and makes bearing swoosh noises when used with larger line. Overall I think I need an aluminum base spinning reel."

"Got a heckuva collection of equipment, including reels, but this is one of my favorites. Use it for just about every application. "I recently purchased the 4000 reel. I have it mated to a 6'6' med action ugly stick. This reel casts a country mile even farther than my bait cast reels. I have used daiwa reels for years and never had a problem. Like all daiwa reels this one has the daiwa wobble, but I am used to this so it is no problem. I can't wait to see how long this one lasts the daiwa long cast el reel is 10 years old and still going strong. So I have high hopes for this one."
