good reel ... until,November 16, 2009
By sully8from Woodstock, GA
Disadvantages: Durability
"I've had good Diawas in the past so I bought this in March 2009 w/o checking reviews. It's a little loud during the cast but distance is good and the drag is smooth. It worked great for a while but the Twitchin' Bar (which I never used) screwed up this week, 8 months of weekly trips after purchase. The bar flips down randomly during retrieve, making the reel unusable. Took it apart and tried everything to no avail. I just ordered my 2nd PQ to replace it. Now, that's a great reel for $100!"

best bait caster for the buck,October 12, 2009
By fishindudefrom holiday, FLA
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Style/Design, Value for money
"This is my first bait caster reel and after I dialed it in I feel like a pro . This reel is very easy to fine tune, and once you spend a little time tuneing it in you will be amazed how well this thing works. I have used other peoples reels and always bird nested the line so I was always affraid of useing a bait caster. I highly recomend this reel for the first timer not only for how well it works but for the price. I used my new reel last week end and I love how well it handles when reeling in a fish. I think now I will replace my old spinning reels. Just remember to follow the recomended line and capacity it makes a big differrence. If you dont know how to cast it just jump on the web and watch a few videos."

Twitch is it,October 12, 2009
By Pungoturpfrom VA Beach, VA
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"I got turned on to this reel after a friend of mine bought one. He had it on a shorter rod and it was ok. I got mine and mated it up with a 7'6 flippin rod and man it came alive. the twitchin bar is real nice when you get a worm down in the stumps and Bass are being a little finicky give em a twitch and they can't resist. Not only is this reel beautifully made but I have never had a problem with it. I couldn't believe the quality of the reel from the price. You can't go wrong with this reel esp. when you set it on a longer flippin rod you'll be jiggin bass out of cover in no time."

short lived,September 15, 2009
By stekat1from Iowa
Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design Disadvantages: Durability
"This was my favorite reel for a little while. After a few fishing trips the line guide binds on its slide bar. This causes a jerky retrieve or stops it all together. Oiling the slide helps for a few casts. Also the handle stays dissengaged at times after a cast. The distance of casting with all lures is excellent. The backlash control is almost flawless also. Probably the only 2 things that keep this reel from the trash. I know the reel was $60.00 but it should work as intended. I would add to the $60.00 and buy a better reel. I would hope a more expensive Daiwa would work better."

great for the $$,September 13, 2009
By oldgoldfrom salinas,ca.
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"this is a great reel for the money. i wrote a previous review last year. since i have used the reel numerous times i have only one complaint. when using the twitching bar be sure you have no slack in your line or you will get loose line on the spool which will result in problems on the next cast. i find it works better with jigs and bottom dwelling lure's than surface lure's which offer less resistance on the 'twitch'. since we cast much more than we catch, this is a fun addition to fishing. you will simply have to find how to use it to your advantage. i own 2 so something must be right. i give them a solid 4 *'s--"

Great Value and Fun to Use,September 12, 2009
By AndysonLakeMissionViejofrom Mission Viejo, California
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"Picked up this new reel with some very professional assistance at Bass Pro in Southern California, thanks! Fished it the same evening at Lake Mission Viejo, it cast very well and the drag system was excellent. The Twitching Bar is a nice addition especially when casting from a dock. This reel is a great value and I'll give it the durability test as I use it often. I filled it with 10 pound test and it is working great and I plan to use it 5 times a week. Thanks Bass Pro!"

bad design,August 20, 2009
By Dawg66from oklahoma
Disadvantages: Performance
"this is not the daiwa i am acustom to throwing having fished Daiwa's for some 15 years, this is the problem with the design, when I would push the button to release the spool to cast, the spool would release then after 15 to 20 feet of line would go out the spool would engage on its own with the gears locking the spool down and bring everything to a screaching halt and the power pro braid snapping yes snapping and the lure continues on thru the air to rest somewhere on the bottom of the pond. I'm done, I've since went to BPS and purchased a Curado 200E and a Revo Winch and could not be happier, sorry Daiwa we have HAD a good history but no more."

The first time i used it i caught alot on the jig thanks to the twitchin bar but the next day wen i picked it up and tryed to reel the twitchin bar would press against the spool disalowing me to reel. Reel is good but the twtchin bar is a gimic"

"I bought 2 of these reels last year. These reels worked great when I first got them. After using them for almost a year they started to bind up and get jumpy. No amount of oil would keep them working like new or close to it. If you're looking for a baitcaster that will last, this is not it."

Defective Twitching Bar,July 28, 2009
By BASSMAN74from Hendersonville, TN
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well Disadvantages: Durability
"Was great for a couple weeks. Caught some nice fish. Then the twitching bar started clicking during during retrieve and eventually locked up all together. Thought I had a nice reel until then. Backlashes also would tangle around the twitching bar. Nice real except for that dang twitching bar, get rid of it, don't need it."

Decent reel for the money,July 22, 2009
By massbasserfrom Franklin, MA
Advantages: Ease of use
"I bought this reel last year and it has performed satisfactory. Someone I know has one that squeaks but mine seems fine. Remember this reel has a graphite frame that is subject to flex which could make it noisy. For the price it is a good backup reel."

ehhh....its ok,July 13, 2009
By McFishertonfrom new bedford , ma
Advantages: Value for money Disadvantages: free floating spool, twitchin bar gets in the way
"when i first put this reel on my rod it performed very well. then about 2 weeks later the twitchin bar started clicking every time i reel its very annoying. its also very loud when casting. It has a free floating spool which i thought was nice until i bought a more expensive reel and realized a free floating spool is not a good thing for a beginner, because it spins to fast when the magnetic break is set to zero. the other annoying thing is when your casting and you start to get a backlash it get caught on the twitchin bar, where on other reels the spools start to catch up. other than that its a good reel for the price. but if you can afford it i would recommend the Quantum KVD signature series."

By clutterfrom Fulton County, IL
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
"This reel is a great reel for the money. They cast great. They are very smooth, and the twitch bar makes finesse fishing a breeze. I dont feel the plastic that everybody talks about. the only problem ive had was with the twitch bar getting stuck because it got wet. Instead of oil use grease. I even own the new 13 ball bearing one, talk about smooth."

The perfect pair?,June 25, 2009
By LakeCookfrom Alexandria, VA
Advantages: Style/Design, Value for money, twitchin' bar, fast gear ratio Disadvantages: lacks sensitivity, too noisy, scratches easy
"I combined the Daiwa Megaforce with a new St Croix Mojo Bass JIG N' WORM (MBC66MHF) because they sound like "the perfect pair" after reading many reviews. However, I still prefer using my other St. Croix Rods with Daiwa Spinning Reels combos for now.
My first impressions were the Megaforce was extremely noisy right out of the box (compared to my Shimano Curado) and the reel definitely has a lack of sensitivity compared to my spinning reels. I have XL hands and I still find "reaching" for the Twitchin Bar can be very awkward (and also tiring).
After fishing with plastic worms for a while I switched to using my favorite Mann's Baby 1-minus, but I could not get Megaforce to work effectively. I was able to get some decent walk-the-dog action happening with a Lucky Craft Sammy 110 before sun down . Maybe using spinner baits with fast presentations would do much better with this reel?
FINAL THOUGHTS: The Megaforce Twitchin Bar and the fast gear ratio are definitely a specialized combination that will take some time for me to enjoy as a beginner. However, this could also be an extremely deadly combo with more experience, too!"

Tempermental reel,June 24, 2009
By Outdoorfanaticfrom Massachusetts
"Bought this reel and loved it! Then it seemed once it got wet the twitching bar kept getting stuck in the down position. Had to take it apart and clean it when i got home. I know you need to clean and oil your reels but after every fishing trip is a little rediculous. Wish it was made of something other than the cheap feeling plastic also. Its a great concept and casts excellent but there are still some problems to iron out."

Very disappointing,June 23, 2009
By Chefpoet72from New Hampshire
Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance, backlashes!!!
"I bought this reel during the off-season and have only fished it a few times, and I must say that it is very, very disappointing. I will admit that it was a my very first baitcaster, and that was without a doubt the biggest mistake. As another reviewer has pointed out, this is a true "freespool" baitcaster, with no centrifugal brakes to control the beginning of the cast. The magnetic brakes only act to control the very end of the cast, as the lure hits the water, which, to me, seems pretty unnecessary since that's the easiest part of the cast for an angler to control with his thumb. So with a lack of centrifugal brakes, all I ever got was backlash after backlash after backlash. Seriously, I was spending more time fixing tangles than I was fishing, about every third cast. Again, it was my first b/c but I doubt the process has to be so hard and require so much skill as to make fishing a maddening experience rather than a fun one. Until Daiwa gets their act together and makes a reel with dual brakes (the best option, I think) I will not buy another one."

Plastic Kills,June 13, 2009
By Egregiousfrom New Orleans, Louisiana
Disadvantages: Durability, Performance
"The tremendous amount of plastic used in this reel kills the quality that Daiwa is known for. A nice replacement reel for this one is the Pfluger Trion. The Trion is similar in price and blows the Daiwa away in quality."
