Advantages: Performs well, Value for money

"I Bought this Black Powder Rifle last year and have taken several deer with it. The Ported barrel reduces kick but dont be deceived you had better hold on as it has already split my eye open. This gun is as close to a high powered rifle as you can get."

Tack Driver......, March 31, 2009
By Pilot47 from South Florida

"I was pleasantly surprised by this rifle. I expected a massive kick on 120 grains of powder (or occasionally a little more), yet the recoil was completely manageable, probably due to the gas ports in the front, the fact that the gun uses black powder, and the decent butt pad on the rifle. This gun is wonderfully balanced, and just feels "right" in my hands, with a very solid feel and build. I chose the matte nickel finish, and found it to be a bit delicate; having neglected to clean my gun immediately after shooting it in wet conditions, I found a small patch of plating to have flaked off near the 209 plug. The culprit: a tiny pin-point of oxidation on the main body of the rifle had breached the plating, and allowed a pinhole's worth of air to get underneath. The effect is entirely cosmetic, and possibly not even deserving of that title, as it is only visible when the gun is cracked open to drop in a new primer, or to remove the plug.

Charged up to 120 grains and using 348 grain, or 404 grain PowerBelt bullets (some of the most maligned slugs in the industry), I have experienced 4-inch DIAMETER groups at 100 yards on its fiber-optic sights, in resting shooting position. I am completely certain that if I had installed a scope on it, I would be dropping bullets into bullet holes - it's that accurate. This rifle's generous sight radius, as well as its use of black powder, is to thank for its accuracy on "iron" sights. It's no secret that the kick from black powder is not as sharp as that from smokeless, even if the overall force might be equal, so the longer, more gentle burn from black powder results in a rifle that's easier to control, and therefore, *usually* more accurate in the same hands (for those who want a more complete explanation of this phenomenon, look up "Impulse" in any encyclopedia).

In closing, I highly recommend this rifle to anyone who is either an experienced, or novice black powder shooter, as it will not disappoint. Just keep the nickel coating clean of corrosive liquids or salts, don't skimp on ammo, and possibly invest in a good scope, and you will own a very respectable firearm indeed.
