Orion Camera Kit and Base System, March 26, 2009
By DeercampHunter from Ohio

"At the beginning of deer season in 2008, we purchased the Buckeye Cam Orion Camera Kit and PC Base kit for use at our deer camp in southern Ohio.

I'm no where near tech savy, but the friendly tech support help desk really helped me get my pc set up to run the camera. The directions included with the kit were excellent, but it was nice being able to talk to a live person to answer my questions.

The camera set up was easy and the range back to the base was incredible. We moved the camera to several different locations and had no problems getting the signal back at the base unit.

Let me just say, this camera is bar none the best out there. We previously had two cuddebacks and a wildview camera at our camp. The wildview already died and the cuddebacks will be replaced this season with additional Buckeye Cameras. The Buckeye cams are better than our prevous cameras because:

* Trigger speed is so much better. We get way more pics on the Buckeye cams as opposed to the cudde's. No more rump shots on deer walking past either.

* The battery life on the Buckeye cam is excellent. We opted for the optional solar charger, so we really only had to charge the camera once ALL season. The savings on batteries alone is incredible.

* Wireless images via the internet. Can't say enough about this feature. We save a ton on gas not having to drive down and check cameras. One click of the mouse and we can see what's on the camera.

* Picture quality. Can't say enough the quality of the pics. The wildview looks like something from a 1950's camera while the Buckeye Cam is taking sharp, clear images.

Overall, the price is higher on the Buckeye cams initially, but they are well worth it in the long run. When you compare initial quality, actual live, english speaking tech support, and the savings on batteries and gas to check the cameras, that higher price disappears.

It doesn't hurt that they are assembled in the US either.

"Great camera, I especially like the battery life with the solar charger. Personally I have saved enough money not buying batteries that I can add another camera. I've never regretted spending the additional money to by the best."

Outstanding, March 26, 2009
By CamOwner

"Best on the market - hands down....
We own 7 orion cameras and a pc base system. They perform better than expected/advertised.
Getting about 2000 pictures per charge when in wireless mode and about 15,000 per charge when in stand alone.
Flash range is easily past 40'
Easy to setup and run. Transmission range depends on terrain easily 1 mile and with the built in repeater feature you can go even further.
If you read the manual first you will be set to go in no time....

buckeyecam, February 1, 2009
By gamcam1 from OH

"My favorite hobby is game cameras, I own over 12, I have used every buckeyecam made, the orion is thier best, but for the price, they are not worth it. The pros are fast trigger, better than average reliability, no sleep time, and the wireless concept is agood idea but far from perfect. The cons are of course they are way over priced, there are better cams for half the price, horrible battery life, bad resolution, if animals are farther than 10ft forget it. I would only recomend this if you want to go wireless, but it will not do as well as they say, 1 mile maybe and thats if there are no obstructions. to sum it up this is one of the best cams out there, but not worth the price. in my opinion you can get a reconyx for 1/3 the price and it is flawless."
