great up a tree, October 7, 2009
By Violette from Maine and Mass.

Advantages: Durability, Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"This is the best range finder for any type of hunting. The range finders that calculate distance while up a tree or on a hill are all hype. If anyone knows B squared + H sqared = C squared you would know you have to be more than 25 feet up a tree to make a one yard difference in the range at 30 yards. At 40 yards it changes evan less. Shame on those TV hunters for trying to sell those high priced range finders to us."

Nikon poor Customer service., July 22, 2009
By Evworld

Disadvantages: Quality

"People beware!!! If you own one of these and have an issue with it and you own it over 1 year your in for a big surprise.

I sent a rangefinder back to Nikon for repair. I owned it over the warranty period. The repair cost was $178.00 and I paid $199 for it new.

I explained my case to the Nikon Customer service person and was told it is out of warranty and if I wanted fixed it will be 178.00 dollars. For a product I only used two months during hunting season it was clearly a factory defect. I thought Nikon was a quality company with quality products. Never again will I own a Nikon....

A must have item., April 6, 2009
By alldeerallthetime from VA

"Finally convinced my wife I had to have a rangefinder so we took a day trip to the BassPro. I would like to thank the staff at the local BassPro shop for their great assistance. I was going to get a new product that has not even made it to the web site but the optic guy easily convinced me to spend the extra $40.00 to get the waterproof Nikon. This rangefinder works great. I have used it to range my practice area for my bow and it is dead on. It is very simple to use and the rear sight adjustment will give you a clear view of what ever you are hunting. Anyone in the market for a new rangefinder will be happy with the Nikon 550."

"This rangefinder works great, the only thing it could improve on would be to have angle adjuster. good buy though."

Review Update, November 11, 2008
By 1ckystar from Georgia

"Prior review unsatisfactory based upon Nikon advising cost of $179 to repair my Prostaff 440. It was just out of warranty but used so little that the original battery still showed full voltage. I sent email back to Nikon stating this and the made it a "complimentary repair". They actually replaced it with a new 550. Very happy now."

Nikon ProStaff 440, October 17, 2008
By lckystar from Georgia

"Purchased a little over a year ago. Liked it a lot. Used it about a month ago and it worked fine. Got it back out this week and will not range at any yardage. Sent back to Nikon. Just advised that it will cost $179 to fix it. Very disappointed. Could buy a new one for that price. Will buy another brand."

Excellent rangfinder, October 13, 2008
By philly99

"I’ve used this rangefinder now for about three months. It works excellent in every situation except extreme low light. I tried to range in a doe one time right a first light and it wouldn’t pick her up. The optics are pretty good and it’s extremely easy to use. About my only complaint (and It’s a small one) is for the hole where you attach the string to be just a little bigger. I wanted to attach it to my coat using a clip but I couldn’t get it through the hole. I used a razor and removed some of the plastic coating which worked."

Awesome, September 16, 2008
By Xterra2729 from Gastonia, NC

"This is the best rangefinder that I have ever used. I bow hunt and rifle hunt I have found that the tbr is a waste for me because I shot a very fast bow and rifle so it is just line of sight. Also it will do seeker mode were you can hold down the button and seek a smaller object. Great for golf."

"Great all around rangefinder. I was drawn to it because of the price and versatility. Can be used during bow and gun season. Excellent accuracy."

Great product, June 30, 2008
By txaggie70 from TX

"Just purchased this rangefinder last week. It is easy to operate and the display is easy to read. I really like the fact it compensates for any uphill or downhill angle so I can use it in a treestand while bow or rifle hunting."
