"This Mitchell may not be the most expensive or have the best features but it cannot be beat for it's price. I have had this reel for three years without having a problem. It still works as smoothly as the first day I had it."

mitchell 300XE

Disadvantages: Difficult to use, bail closes to hard
"Always have used and love the Garcia Mitchell 300 series reels. I just bought one and it was packaged (a 3ooXE) and the bail is hard to close and most of the time it has to be done manually. Not typical of the 300 series at all. NOTE I didn't get the reel from BassPro"

"I bought my 1st Mitchell 300 in August of 1969 and I still use that reel on EVERY fishing trip I take and I'm out about 2 times a week throughout the year. I own 6 Mitchell 300s (Various models) and every one works like a charm and have the smoothest drag of any spinning reel I've ever used. For my money (and I don't have a lot) they cannot be beat. I recently purchased one as a Christmas present to myself (and went out Christmas day and got a kuppla channel cats) and it felt as though is was a part of my hand from the 1st cast. Get yourself 1, you won't regret it."

Fantastic

"This is just a great reel. Sure, you can get something better for $100, but for less than that, this reel is very hard to beat, especially with its durability. I fish on a budget, and purchased this reel several years ago in the combo. Unfortunately, I accidentally broke the rod, therefore I cannot say much about it. I now have it on an ugly stik and use it very frequently. I have put it to the test time and time again and this reel never fails me. I beat it up, toss it around, and leave it out in the weather. I have never had to do a bit of repair or maintenance, and it still works like it's brand new. I honestly could not think of a single thing bad about it."

"Pair it with an ugly stick, and you've got a grab and go combo that can't be beat. Smooth operation, clean looks. When a lot of other manufacturers keep getting flashier and flashier, to where they are more show pieces than something you want to fish with. Mitchell keeps their stuff looking nice, but it doesn't have a lot of "BLING." to it. Solid performer though, with a subtle clean look.
I'll definitely be buying mitchell's from here on out."

"I have the 300XE on a 7' Berkley Amp rod with 10lb fluorocarbon line, and this thing just slays bass! The 8 ball bearings makes this reel smooth with a V. I never used Mitchell before I bought this reel, but I assure you, I will use Mitchell for the rest of my life!"

Using the Mitchell 300Xe

"My first impression when I pulled the reel out of the box was that it was smaller and lighter than the original Mitchell 300 I had used and loved growing up. I was slightly put off by this, for I recalled putting my old reel through some pretty strenuous workouts. Once I had it attached to the rod and loaded with 10 pound test line, however, I started to feel a little better. My first favorable impression was the balance. As I was loading the line I couldn't help but marvel at the quiet smoothness of the action of the handle, the bail, and the spool as it took in the line. I've taken it fishing three times so far - all freshwater - and have fallen in love with this newer version. It is everything I remember from the old Mitchell and more."

Unbeatable

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Value for money, Quality, rugged, dependable
"This is the best spinning reel I ever purchased for the money. I'm very rough on my gear. This thing takes a pounding . I've dropped it on rocks down hills. I even fell on it once. No problem.Performance this thing couldn't be anymore smooth if it tried. Eight bearings and a spare spool try running a comparison on that you won't get very far. it's only draw back that I could find is it's dificult to take appart and clean. You can put this side by side with alot of reels for twice the price. Great value for the money."

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money
"I really think this reel is underpriced. It works so well for such a small price. Lots of people pass it up because they gotta have the most exspensive reel on the market. This reel is an all around good reel. It is a very well made reel. I have not had any problems with it. It also comes with a paper that helps you maintain your reel. It tells you what to oil and what to grease. That makes it last longer. The reel is great. It is a BARGAIN."

Don't bother with this one

,
December 9, 2010

Disadvantages: Performance, Durability
"I've experienced every single complaint on this board about this reel. Performance is worse than reels half the price. I finally got fed up to the point where I threw the reel in the garbage on my last outing using it. It's only redeeming quality is the price; at least I didn't waste a ton of money on it."

Advantages: Style/Design, Value for money
Disadvantages: Durability
"I want to give this reel a five as I like the look and feel, but it's just not durable enough for me. It last for a while, but I've had two now where the bearing came loose and you can hear them rolling around in the reel. They still work okay, but the noise bugs the mess out of me."
