Advantages: Design, Durability
Disadvantages: just a bit loose if you don't use a threaded post
"I purchased two for my boat seats when I changed seat posts. They work great. They lock solid. I just went fishing and had a non-boater who was pretty big (275+). No problems. I weigh less than 200 and never felt uncomfortable with it. I'm going to purchase another two for my other smaller boat."

"just bought a 1973 ranger bass boat with the large hole taking fitting for the front fishing seat. wanted to adapt and was worried that in 38 years something had changed in the mount. fit like from the factory."

"A few years ago,I switched from the Kingpin Series to the Taper-lock on the front deck of my boat. I did this because I thought it would be safer for holding bigger people. Since then, i've lost one person overboard, and two people landing on the bottom of my boat! The post comes completely out of the base. The plastic lock system is a joke. I can't believe there still selling this product. Buyer be ware. It looks good on paper,but the so called lock system is flawed."

"I have a number of kingpin style seats and accessories but my new boat has wedge style seating. I fashioned a rod holder set to fit on top of a kingpin seat stand and then installed it on the center/rear seat position. It holds my rods up about 18" off the back riser. The rods clear the motor and are easy to get at."
