"I recently purchased the Avid 9ft. 7 weight. This rod is so smooth and accurate. I have used this to catch bass, bluegill, crappie, and red fish. I plan to use this rod for bonefish and permit this winter. Easy loading, smooth casting and great fighting action. I would not hesitate to purchase another one of these if I did not have so many rods. Two thumbs up!"

"I have many St Croix rods for both fly and casting/spinning applications. After years of fishing, I have become most concerned with quality of construction, and performance for my use case. The St Croix rods in general perform well and are built very well. I have used their blanks to build fly rods as well and I can vouch for the blank and how well it casts. I dont know of a better rod for the price for trout fishing. I havent used the larger line sizes for salmon or tarpon yet, but I would expect them to be good strong performers. I have also damaged my rods by stepping on them and the warranty service was outstanding. I dont think anyone from beginner to experienced would regret this purchase."

Best Fly Rod Ever,February 24, 2007

"I just recently purchesed the St. Croix Avid 3 wieght 7 foot 9. I am extremely happy with this rod it casts floating line great. When I bought this rod I thought it wouldn't have the sensetivity of a 1 or 2 piece rod, but wow was I wrong, you can feel the slightest bight by those cautious trout. Not only is this rod a great caster and great sensetivity but it has the backbone of a 4 or 5 weight great for when you are trying to horse the trout out of the current of tree limbs."
