The good and bad, December 5, 2006

"I've owned the delta deer decoy for a couple of years now and have developed an opinion (good and bad) about this decoy.

Appearance: Life Like - Doe and Buck with the exception of the tail - Tail is not adjustable - constant down tight against the body. The ears are also not adjustable without removing the pins/staples.

Set Up - Faily easy with the exception of the two stakes - ends were not sharpened so that when trying to insert the stakes in hard ground, the stakes had a tendency to bend. I've resorted to taking a hammer and screwdriver with me to make a pilot hole (too much noise if you are just setting it up for a morning or evening hunt). If you don't get the stakes in deep enough, the deer tends to lean.

No scent attatchment areas but the body's construction make's easy to attach using a thumb tack or other sharp item.

Transport - Does not come with a travel (carrying) scent proof bag and it is too large for any standard plastic storage or garbage bags. Comes with one orange carrying strap. If it's not in the back of a pickup, it's in the vehicle mixing with all the scents. Home storage also provides exposure to scents. Had a buck look right at it, got interested, got a wiff of the scent and took off running. This was after spraying it down with scent eliminator.

Packing up - cavity could be a little larger to accommodate the legs, horns, carrying strap, and stakes. Kind of like putting a puzzle together to get it to fit tight enough to allow the cavity cover to fit back on. The head does not detach.

Misc: The only parts that have fallen off the decoy was one of the ears. Quite easy to re-attach using the pins (long staple like items) that can be removed and reinserted by hand.

Recommend improvements - Adjustable tail, ears, larger cavity and a scent proof carrying/transport bag.
