"had the edge for 3 months,then all the speeds went out except 5 high,took it to minn kotas repair center,got a call a few days later saying fishing line was around spindle,and it cost 200.00 to repair,so i emailed barb at minn kota,she said no warranty,sorry bout your luck,i told barb i had moter guide for over 30 yrs ,and like anyone who fishes a lot they have pulled the prop and removed fishing line ,i have many many times on my moterguide and it never did any damage,but if you get fishing line on your minn kota they dont have the protection like moterguide has.and barb at minn kota says this is a fluke,so i said if its a fluke why dont you fix it under the warranty,its not a fluke i talked to the minn kota repairman and he said he has seen this problem with minn kota a lot,so its not a fluke moter guide is more dependable,so dont make the same mistake as me ,buy anything but minn kota,they look nice ,but are built terrible"

"I bought the 65 lb 24 volt model last spring. I fish almost every weekend, and when I do, I use this motor all day. The lakes I fish on are electric motor only. I never have power issues or low battery problems. I can tell you that the flex shaft is also very durable, because I tend to run into a lot of submerged stumps and such."

"I BOUGHT A 55 LB FOOT CONTROL MODEL TO REPLACE A COMPETITORS BRAND WITH LOWER LB THRUST. I FISH THE DELTA QUITE A BIT AND NEEDED SOME MORE POWER TO DEAL WITH THE TIDE. I DECIDED TO GO WITH THE MINNKOTA JUST TO TRY IT OUT. I NEVER HAD ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH MY OLD MOTOR. I HAD IT FOR OVER SIX YEARS.
FROM DAY ONE THE MINNKOTA SOUNDED LIKE A ROTOTILLER. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE AUTHORIZED REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE WHOLE LOWER UNIT WAS DAMAGED. THE GUY SAID IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY DAMAGED DURING THE SHIPPING PROCESS. OK, GOT IT REPAIRED THEN IT WOULD SHUT OFF WHENEVER IT FELT LIKE IT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE REPAIR GUY AND TOLD HIM THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SWITCH. HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BECAUSE HE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HE DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THE SWITCH. I TOOK THE MOTOR BACK AND TOOK THE SWITCH APART. YEP, IT WAS FRIED. I CALLED THE GUY BACK AND TOLD HIM ABOUT THE SWITCH. HE THEN SOLD ME THE SWITCH AND I HAD TO REPAIR THE UNIT MYSELF. THE MOTOR WAS WELL WITHIN WARRANTY. WHAT A JOKE. THE JUMP IN SPEEDS BETWEEN 4 AND 5 WAS VERY DRASTIC AND NOT SMOOTH LIKE MY OLD TROLLING MOTOR. I GOT RID OF IT AND WILL NOT BUY A MINNKOTA AGAIN."

"i just purchased the 40# thrust model and it is a very quiet and durable motor. instalation was easy, though i had to purchase new hardware for installing as the ones included were to long to mount on my deck. my only complaint is that the circuit breaker is not included with the motor (nor did the bass pro associate tell me i needed one). i did not find out that i needed one until i opened the box and found the instructions. (which is why i am rating this a 4 and not a 5)."

"I recently purchased the 24volt version to replace the 1993 OMC trolling motor on my Stratos Fish & Ski. It was easy to install and I have been on the lake with it several times. It has a tremendous amount of thrust on level 5, which I use for crossing large areas of water. I typically use it on level 3 to go along the bank. I am liking the big foot pedal and it appears very secure. I ran over a bunch of rocks with it the first day (my own fault) and it scratched a lot of the paint off of the motor unit, but it still works great - basically I abused the heck out of it. I plan to touch up my mishap with fresh black paint, but I couldn't be happier with the unit and would buy the same one again. Good thrust, easy control, easy installation, secure, and very firm when latched in the up or down positions. Recommend."

"I have had a 40# Edge on my old Bass Tracker for about 18 months. It is solidly built, reliable, and easy on the battery.
The only problem is the huge jump in power between the 4 and 5 speed setting. It needs a 4 1/2 setting. I'll be saving my money to buy one with variable speed."

"Nice power for my boat (15' Bass Tracker 1), has no problem with wind. The battery lasts a good long time, I have to drain it completely even while out fishing all day. I only gave it 4 starts because the foot pedal is rather large and takes up a lot of room in the boat and the cables for the pedal are pretty short so you don't have a lot of choices on placement. Overal this is an excellent motor and I do not regret it one bit.
Especially good if you have a short distance from the deck to the water line. You don't end up with lots of motor sticking up over the deck."
