xps alum pliers, January 3, 2009
By fishingfool999 from GA

"As stated in other reviews, forget trying to cut your line with these pliers. If you intend to use them as a hook remover they are just fine and weigh very little. These are also very costly and would expect to be able cut line with it. For an XPS brand this is a disapointing purchase."

Look elsewhere, May 28, 2008
By backcountry from South FL

"Great price and look; however, they don't work. Stopped cutting mono 'bout the 3 trip. Very poor cutters, can't cut."

"The jaws do not have a spring to open themselves. its a real hassle to have to keep a finger on the inside of the handles to keep tension outwards on the jaws. Someone else mentioned the browning pliers. They are a much better pair. I gave these to the kids to play with."

not as good as they look, March 2, 2008
By postman from Vero Beach, Florida

"These pliers are very pleasing to the eye. They fit nicely in the hand and work great for de-hooking. However, they do NOT cut wire, mono, or fluorocarbon. They don't even cut 60 pound mono leader. If you use your pliers exclusively for removing hooks/lures, they are a good buy. But, if you go through leaders like I do, and you use pliers for rigging, get a different pair ( or a pair of scissors)."

EXCELLENT value, January 15, 2008
By Maverick03 from Miami, FL

"Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge fan of most BPS made items.. I haven't had a lot of success with them in the past. So, I was skeptical when I received these pliers as a gift. Other than the blue finish (wish they were available in black) I absolutely love these pliers. I have the 7.5" and use them almost exclusively for offshore use. I'm on the water about 100 days a year, and I use these pliers dozens of times during each trip.. They are lightweight and virtually indestructible. They require no maintanence (I rinse them with freshwater after filleting the day's catch, but that's it) and two years later they work like they're brand new... Absolutely awesome product!"

Good pliers, January 11, 2008
By Waywardwind from Pensacola, Fl

"The only thing that keeps these from getting the fifth star is the fact that there is a tiny gap in between the cutting edge of the pliers. I’m going to say that this is the reason for the negative reviews about not cutting sub-20lb braided line. I have only have one rod with 20lb power pro on it so I gave these pliers a shot on the 20lb. not the best cutting tool in the world on the 20lb but it worked if you kept the line to the front half of the pliers jaw. Every other line I own cut just fine. Use there pliers for what they are, a saltwater tool that will not rust, and you will be happy."

ok product, December 26, 2007
By captnkyle

"I hust got this product a couple of months ago ank they have not worked in back country very well. They do not cut braided line under 20 pounds. I am a charter captain and im on he water 250 days a year. If you fish offshore you should get these, but is you fish inshore you should buy the browning pliers."

Better than I expected, September 18, 2007
By Freshwater Lakes from California

"These pliers are excellent. Normally I fish on lakes (trolling for trout/kokanee and bass fishing occasionally) and these pliers are more than enough for the type of fishing I do. It cuts mono with no problem.

The pliers are very light weight (71/2" model) and are easy to use. It's not spring loaded, but that's not an issue. The picture doesn't do the pliers and sheath justice. The pliers are beutifully made and the sheath is actually molded for them (doesn't really show in the ad).

I definitely would recommend these. You can't go wrong for the price.

Not for Today's Market, January 3, 2007
By TampaJim

"These pliers don't cut braided line, or at least anything 20# test or less. I really don't understand why anyone would build a pair of pliers (unless for offshore use) that aren't capable of easily cutting fine braided line. This isn't the 70's or 80's and braid is extremely commonplace. If you use mono, flourocarbon or wire - you will be happy. Otherwise, purchase another design."

Great Gift, December 14, 2006
By cosmos

"These were given to me by a dear friend and I would not be on the water without them. I have the 7-1/2" model and they are perfect for removing hooks, cutting braid, mono or wire. I use them in fresh water and before the first use I put a very thin layer of silicone on the jaws. No rust and they continue to work for me every day I'm on the boat."

BPS 5 1/2" Aluminum Pliers, November 10, 2006
By mjbulky1 from st. louis

"I've owned these pliers for six months, have used only in fresh water. The jaws cut mono cleanly and spectra although they weren't designed for that. No rust problems but only used in fresh water. Jaw screws need to be tightened initially but have never slipped since. I've done comparison shopping , nothing beats these at this price. Only regret i wish i would have purchased the 7" pliers. Would recommend to all my friends."

Disappointed, July 16, 2006
By redryder from New Haven, CT

"Purchased these pliers two months ago on a fishing trip to Florida. Within three days of purchase, the re-placeable jaws had rust building within the slots. Although I use them in a saltwater environment I do rinse them off with freshwater every time I use them.
In addition, the screws that hold the jaws to the pliers come loose every fishing trip. I don't abuse the pliers, take care of my equipment.
The cutting edge is good and hasn't disappointed.
They are handsome to look at and priced fairly, but improvement are needed.
