Great reel terrible rod, June 30, 2009
By IndianaChris from Indiana

Advantages: great reel
Disadvantages: durability of rod

"I took this combo on 4 fishing outings. The first outing resulted in the tip of the rod snapping off 2 inches from the tip top. I repaired that and then took it out a couple of more times and it fished well. On the fourth trip the upper section of the rod exploded while casting a f05 rapala lure. Now on the other hand the reel has performed flawlessly and after being strapped under an ugly stick lite pro has made a great fishing combo."

Rod handle problem, June 4, 2009
By Kenmw

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well
Disadvantages: cork laminate started peeling from handle

"Reel is fantastic. The rod is good. The "cork" handle is a cork composit covered by a cork laminate. The laminate started to peel off after one months use. Taped the end of the handle ant the laminate started to peel farther up the handle. would recommend the combo if it were not for the cork laminate peeling from the handle."

"This is my favorite combo i have ever used for trout and crappie.
When i purchased this combo i was skeptical about the performance. But when i got this in the mail i spooled it up with 6 Pound Trilene XL smooth casting blue. I got he 4 foot nine rod .
I am extremely happy with the sensitivity of this rod.
And this reel is extremely smooth.
It casts very far and is a blast to use.
I got the combo in the mail on thursday and have 12 trout on this rod so far. TWO were over three and a half pounds.
I am very happy that i purchased this rod and i will buy more.

Nice reel ..., March 28, 2009
By Anonymous from Orlando, Fl.

"I bought the 5' 2" combo. The reel works great and is very smooth. Definitely worth $29. However, although the 5' 2" rod is advertised as an ultralight and designated as an ultralight in the model number, the rod itself is a light action rod. It says "Light" on the rod and the action is far stiffer than a true ultralight. Although the rod is not what it is advertised to be, the quality is there so I'll give it 4 stars."

NIce ultra light combo, February 26, 2009
By EdMan from Southern AL

"I have the ultra light 5'6" model. This has been a great ultra light. Reel is smooth and cast light weight lures with ease at great distance. I primarly use it for bream and crappie fishing, but it has the backbone to haul in a fat catfish too! I bought it while on sale for @29.99. Great Deal!! Highly Recommend this rod & reel."

Great reel,poor rod, January 24, 2009
By Declan

"I think the 5 ball bearing reel is amazing but the rod is a nother story. The rod says ultra light but it does'nt bend any where close to how far my other ultra lights do. It feels like a mediam action rod when it is suposed to be an ultra light. The cork handle also bulges out righ where you put your hand."

Great Pole and Well Worth the Price!!, October 22, 2008
By Bassmaster94 from La Habra, CA

"This pole is nice, it is smooth and easy to cast. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't hold that much line. But overall it is a great pole!"

Great Combo, May 20, 2008
By James127 from Kentucky

"This is overall one of my favorite rod and reel combos ever. The reel is realy smooth and very sensitive with plenty of backbone to haul in the big one. I mainly bought this to throw small 1/16 lures and it does a great job, with the small ones as well as the larger ones. Matched with 6lb line this is my go-to combo when i go fishing. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a great looking and a great performance rod for a reasonable price!"

Great Combo for the $$$, April 15, 2008
By KYbassin from Louisville, KY

"I have two of these combos and I love 'em. I use them for fishing bluegill, crappie, and stream smallies and they excel at all. The reels are nice and smooth and I haven't had any problems with the rods either. They also look great, which is a bonus for me, since I look for performance first. This is a great combo for starters and veterans of any age."

Very pleased, February 19, 2008
By TimG from johnstown,pa

"I bought this rod last spring as a stream trout rod, and I must say it lived up to my expectations, I unlike some have not noticed any problems with the reel or rod-tip area. To address some of the guys having problems with the reel, try using less line, and don't (if you are) use any of the "super" lines,,no stretch means more pressure on the tip maybe thats why some are breaking on hooksets? I have the 5'2 model and I'm about to buy the 6'6 model right now, for river and larger stream trout fishing."

Great combo, better price, January 6, 2008
By KYsmallmouthHunter from grayson, KY

"I have fished with several "budget priced" panfish combos and the brownings superlights are by far the best in my opinion. I purchased the 5' 2" combo in early 2006 and it has landed several 16+ inch smallmouth and even a 9lb flathead with 6lb test. The rod is ultra sensitive, the reel is still smooth as day 1 and is waiting for several more years of fun. This item is on sale frequently for 29.99, but is worth every penny of the regular 49.99 price. Highly recommend this combo to anyone needing a workhorse that will take on anything from bluegill to an occasional cat."

This rod is great!, August 25, 2007
By glucopro from Southeast Missouri

"I bought this combo in Arkansas to do some trout fishing on the White River. It worked great. It was sensitive enough to feel the light bites from the trout. Most of my fishing from this rod has been in Southern Illinois were I have caught countless large crappie, blue gill, bass and even some catfish going to four lbs. I have used this rod to fish the clear streams of the Ozarks in Missouri too. However, all good things must come to an end, I broke the rod on a rock while retreving a jig. I think the reel in clunky and never used it. I put a fluger reel on the rod. I wish I knew were to get another rod without buying another reel. If anyone knows of a comparble rod, please let me know. I am looking."
