Perfect Fit

Advantages: Long lasting, Ease of use, Value for money, Well made/Durable, Quality, handles many uses well
"I purchased the Old Town Rush Sit Inside Kayak but once I tried it out, I realized I was too big for it. I am 6'3" and 230 lbs. I was worried Bass Pro would hassle me over the return. I shouldn't have worried. They were very understanding about the whole thing. They did inspect the old boat for damage but I expect that.
Anyway, this thing is awesome. It is so stable I can rotate and let my legs dangle off the side. I have taken it down the river by my house (class I-II) and it never got close to dumping me out.
Last year I lost a canoe in that river once it swampped. It was too heavy once full of water. I don't have to worry about that with this sit on top kayak. I think it will do great in the ocean too.
I can't be more happy with the purchase. The only thing that would make it better is side handles but you can add those later.
It does move around in the wind easily and it has that hull slap I read about but the stability and mult-use nature of this thing by far exceeds those faults."

Disadvantages: no side carry handles
"This is my first kayak and I wanted something to take on the inlets along our coastal waters. This one fit the bill. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it doesn’t have side handles for me to carry it on my own."

Scrambler Review

,

"Have owned/tested dozens of Kayaks for diving and Ocean Fishing and rarely does one do everything well. The Scrambler is a moderately priced yak that does both fairly well, is not fast but not slow either, fairly stable too but gets squirlely when moving around in it. As another reviewer put it. If you want straight fishing yaks that can be fully equiped, there are better ones out there for less."

"I love this kayak and you can't get anything like this for the price. I only gave it 4 stars because there are things it is missing that should have been added. The 4 stars is not a reflection of the performance... pros: The yak is very fast and tracks well. It is very comfortable. I have been out for 8 hours and never even thought about being uncomfortable. It is light and can be loaded unloaded by one person. Easy to accessorize. I added a fishfinder in 30 min. Rod holders are great. Very stable in the sitting position. Cons: Very tippy if you need to move around. If you need to turn around to get something out of rear storage it can be an adventure. Storage areas are oddly shaped because they are essentially for diving so adding traditional things like a milk crate is difficult. Must have scupper plugs. If you don't buy the plugs then prepare to be soaked the entire trip. You will be sitting in 3 inches of water all the time. Easy fix though for $12. You will need to add handles. Otherwise there is no way to carry it anywhere. One person can't carry the kayak with the handles on the end.
Overall: For the moderate fisherman who doesn't go on extreme expeditions but just enjoys getting out there and fishing you can't beat this kayak."

Gr8 4 Price

"I owned this kayak for about 3 years and used it in the ocean quite a bit. It is very stable and despite its width, rows easily and moves smoothly in the water.
I use it a lot to go diving and I find I have enough space for all the SCUBA gear in the back and even in a little surf, nothing falls over nor does the boat capsize (as long as you head straight into the waves). Never had a problem. The XT means it's a bit longer and maybe a tad bit wider. I have been on other kayaks and don't really like the compartments (could flood) or the expensive rudder types as it makes stuff unnecessarly complicated.
If you want to just row, you may want to get something a bit thinner since you won't need the extra luggage room.
Nice, stable, affordable kayak... can't really ask for more.

Very good kayak

"I purchased this kayak for the soul purpose of fishing in Hatteras and being able to yak my baits out further than I could cast. This kayak will take the waves head on and give you any problems. It manuvers well and has a lot of speed. Additions can be acttached very easliy. The only draw back I have about it is that the seatback that comes with isn't very big at all. I'm a big around 250 and will be looking at getting a bigger one to accomodate me and not give me any fatigue in the lower back."

Good Yak for the money.

"1 year ago I purchased a Scrambler XL angler edition for a little less than what they want. The XL is 12ft has more rope decking and includes a nice spot to mount a front mount swivel rod holder or fish finder. I think the XL has been discontinued. I know that Ocean Kayaks are top quality and much more affordable than other brands like Hobie and Wilderness Systems. You may be able to find a cheaper off brand but it will probably end up on the bottom of the lake.
The XT seems like a descent yak definitley a good starter Yak.

Awesome Kayak

"I just recently purchased this kayak, and have only taken it out a couple of times. But this is the best kayak that I've ever been in. It tracks well in the water, and the other day, with winds up to 20 mph, this kayak cut through the white caps without me getting soaked; making the half mile trek across the lake quick..I highly recommend this yak to anybody who's wanting to get into the sport!!"

Ocean Kayak Scrambler XT Angler

,

"My setup:
1. Flat foam pillow on front part of kayak for 55 lb. hunting dog to sit on.
2. Fishing bait/gear on back part of kayak.
3. Two fishing poles trolling
4. Water, kayak cart, and supplies stored inside hatch compartment up front.
This boat is very stable. I can stand up in it fairly easily and scoot forward to pull the dog back on top when it decides to take a swim.
Rows very fast too. I couldn't ask for a better or more versatile kayak."

OK but

,

"This yak is ok in that it will go out and fish. Paddles reasonably well, but has some shortcommings. The rear well will NOT take a milk crate and only sort of takes a Coleman 25 qt cooler. Also, the yak does NOT come with side handles! It is a real PAIN to load onto a roof top with out these! I spoke with the Ocean Kayak folks and was told the handles were not included in order to "keep cost in line". I bought a set of handles from a local dealer (different brand) and paid $13. I'm sure the actual cost of handles is next to nothing. I would not buy another of these boats for fishing. There are better ones out there. Some of them are less expensive also."
