Best GPS I've used, May 13, 2009
By Ski26 from Colorado

Advantages: Durability, Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money, accuracy

"Definitely one of the best GPS's I've ever used. The built in map is lacking, but I've got a 2gb card in it that holds the detailed road maps for the whole country, and about 3/4 of the US's TOPO maps. Had to purchase those separately, but they're worth it. Awesome for hunting, saved me from getting lost countless times. Also the best I've used for geocaching as well. Very very accurate. Its waterproof and impact resistant also. The only gripes I've had with it are that it's a little spendy (but worth it) and when you have the TOPO maps set to high detail, it is a little slow loading."

Excellent unit, February 26, 2009
By jmsgws from Wisconsin

"Have used this one a couple of times, now, and it has been the best GPS I have purchased.

It must be the external antennae, but the reception and accuracy is much better than my other units.

Worked great in heavy tree cover. Batttery life has been superb, even in below zero weather.

Would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking.

Addictive, October 17, 2008
By curtisb from Mendenhall, MS

"This is one of the top five things i have ever purchased especially a product that i can use while i'm in the woods. If you want a handheld gps this is the one you want, i have had it for about a week and wanted to try everything out on it before i did a review. I installed a Topo software and it works like a automotive style GPS now. I highly recommend 60CSx also it say it comes with a 64MB memory card, mine came with 128MB card. Be careful you will not want to put it down."

Finally bit the dust!, September 16, 2008
By dpchirico from New Milford, CT

"The 60CSx ws my 5th GPS unit and by far my favorite. I was introduced to GPS units years ago by a need created by hiking into the backcountry. Soon after, that, and a love of tech, drove me to Geocaching, finding over 1000 with this unit alone. No other GPS was as accurate in tough spots like thick woods, mountainsides, and canyons - places where every other unit I ever used would bail, this 60CSx would always retain 3-5 satellites. It even held reception in my car's glovebox. Startup takes seconds, whereas other GPS units would take minutes to initialize. What was especially great for me was the durability factor: rides off my car roof at 30mph, -5 F temps, water and snow immersion, etc. It was almost a game to see how much abuse the 60CSx could take... I couldn't be more pleased!"

60CSX - A great handheld GPS, September 2, 2008
By MilitaryNC from NC and elsewhere

"For 6 months I research the internet, then purchased the 60CSX. I have had this unit for 9 months now. Reception is fast and accurate. The screen has vivid colors and it is sharp. The 60CSX battery life is more than double of my past GPS and one of the longest running GPS on one set of batteries. The Topo map cards and the Highway map cards are great. I have used it in the field (active-duty military) to confirm my grid locations and, thus far, it has been perfect. I used the Highway card to drive from Ft Bragg to San Antonio TX and it was exceptional.

The 60CSX has worked well in the heat, humidity, rain, and the cold. It gets through clouds far better than competing GPS units on the market.

This unit does exactly what the advertisements say it will do without any glitches and I feel that I have a top-of-the-line handheld GPS

I recommend this unit to others that are looking for an outstanding GPS that is accurate and has LONG battery life.

The only add-on that would make me appreciate it more would be current maps of areas that the US military may/will deploy me to. Absent the maps, it still gives accurate MGRS locations. I have heard others that deployed with this unit were highly satisfied with it's performance.

Do an extensive internet research, read reviews, look for reception, look at battery life especially if you will not be close to resupply and need to bring extra batteries, and look at all of the competing GPS's features and compare them to the 60CSX.

Make an informed decision. I made a well-researched purchase and I own the best product for my needs when a failure could be catastrophic. (By the way, a GPS is a luxury - never go into the wilderness without a compass and a map that you can skillfully use.)

I hope that my review was helpful for your research.

My first GPS, March 13, 2008
By mfox56 from Rome ,GA.

"My first GPS is great. The CSx60 is a multi-use unit. I use it fishing, hunting and driving. After reading many reviews on this product I also purchased the TOPO US 2008 mapping software which is very much needed because the basic mapping is not very good for such a high end unit. Over all I am very pleased with CSx60."

Excellant GPS, February 1, 2008
By Wolverine70 from Charlestown, In

"I love this model, I recently bought it after extensive research into different models and this one seems to be the best choice, I use it for hiking and Geocaching and it works great for cachin. Although the only draw back is the electonic compass when I use it for Geocaching it tends to make the needle wander from side to side, In other words it says the cache is one one side of the trai lthen next second it's on the other so a fix to this is turn off the electronic compass feature which is not hard at all. But if you wanted to save a little money buy the 60cs model instead it does not have the compass or the baromemter which by the way is a good feature to have so you can "kinda" predict the weather coming in. But overall a excellant GPS"

awesome product, December 31, 2007
By lovetheoutdoors

"I'm a female and I've used this gps for 6 months now and feel very comfortable going out into the woods and not getting lost. I've used it in Colorado elk hunting and it always kept track in the dark timber. I've brought it with me while riding on a charter bus and had to tell the bus driver when to turn into a camp at night. The downside is that with the mapsource program you can not add a new topo one at a time without losing the other ones you have on it. They have to all be loaded at one time."

2007 Elk Hunt With Topo 08, November 9, 2007
By LittleBigMan

"I purchased the Garmin 60CSx and MapSource Topo U.S. 2008 software because I have hunted with some friends who have taken me to some of the best elk country that I have seen and I wanted to get back to the same spot again. I was able to find the location(s) that I was interested in on the Garmin MapSource software along with GoogleEarth and sent them to my gps unit. During my hunt I was able to go to the exact locations (considering it was dark last year when I was guided) that I needed. I wasn't sure if I could find the starting point but I got us to within 30 yards of the starting point and then walked the mile in to the perfect spot and there are no trails to follow. This year I took my dad with me so I was the guide. Really the main reason for the purchase.

Pros: Very accurate, light weight, easy to see display during the day, software that saves and/or makes waypoints, acquires satellites quickly, electronic compass is a great bonus when calibrated.

Cons: Will not save the back light on option after cycling the power and it is hard to turn on in the dark, I carried the gps in my shirt pocket with the unit in upright position and it knocked the electronic compass out of calibration easily, I had to recalibrate several times.

Total days hunted 5
Total miles walked 15
The ability to take my dad hunting in some of the best wilderness PRICELESS!

Over all I am very satisfied with my purchas from Bass Pro Shops.

"This GPS works fine for me even in Europe. Does not matter if it is an North American version or not. It is pretty solid. The unit has survived heavy crash on my bicycle without any significant damage. Only two almost invisible tiny scratches."

Garmin GPSMAP 60 CSx, November 23, 2006
By Chriswp from North West Georgia

"If I could use only one word to rate this unit, it would be "AWSOME". It is the ultimate in outdoor gps units. This new high sensitivity antenna is great. It locks on in no time and it works great in the woods. I bought this unit for coon hunting at night in the north Georgia mountains and it does the job with flying colors"
