Not bad - but better reels at the same price point,May 13, 2009
By NorthShoreTigerfrom SE Louisiana
Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Style/Design Disadvantages: value for money
"I purchased this reel and liked it very much until I bought a Citica. I found it to be a bit noisy on the cast and not perform as well as the Citica in holding and fighting power when tied into large reds and black drum. There is nothing really wrong with it, but a less expensive reel edges it out in performance so I cannot recommend this reel."

Good little reel but....,March 20, 2009
By Trojanfrom California
"I've had this reel for a couple years now. I've caught a bunch of fish and even had fun catching some dorado on it in Mexico. The reel is still pretty smooth but the drags aren't the greatest on the reel. I think this reel would easily compete with the Revo and Curado if the drags were better. They don't have the stopping power of the Revo nor the smoothness which I have in my curado. Still at the price it can't be beat."

POWERFUL!,July 20, 2008
By SaltySouthfrom Hilton Head, SC
"This is such a powerful reel. When I first got it, I took it bass fishing to break it in and hooked what I thought was a 2 pound bass. When I brought it in, it was over 5 pounds! It is great for redfish and small tarpon especially. The drag is smooth and quiet and the frame is super solid. I would not hesitate to cast to a 20 pound fish with this reel. You will enjoy it."

SuperDuper Reel,May 26, 2008
By bigbubba1kfrom Delaware
"Living in Delaware, and fishing mostly Tidal inter-coastal waterways can be very punishing on equipment--no matter what the cost.... I found these reels after buying the last 2 Extreme Inshore leftovers in Hanover last year, and I have been greatly surprised as to their action, durability, and usefulness... They need very little maintainance(-light fresh water spraying will sufice-)-You can cast just about any weight you wish with or against the wind and if properly set-up there are very very very few professional overruns.... Best investment for the $$$$ for anyone that fishes brackish, tidal or intercoastal waterways---these reels will handle darn near everything in Neptunes waters"

Gotta Get One,April 29, 2008
By devans850from Tallahassee,Fl
"I have an arsenal of baitcast reels and the Coastal has been a great addition. This is the first baitcast reel that I have had, that has held up to my punishment in the saltwater. You CAN NOT go wrong with buying this reel. You can cast just about any size jig/lure there is with minor adjustments. I have caught redfish, trout, sheephead, etc. on this reel without failure"

The 153H is a great reel,January 23, 2008
By Len2
"I have two of these reels and they are better than the higher priced ones. With the all metal frame and the brass gears it is a work horse. It is easy to take down for cleaning. It will handle any thing in fresh and salt water. This reel will last you a life time. Buy it !!!!"

Right application?,September 21, 2007
By Guppyfrom Manhattan Beach, CA
"I bought this reel to go along with my G Loomis Rod as a combo for fishing Bay Bass in Newport Harbor and San Diego Bay. I have found this reel difficult to throw light plastics with lead heads up to 3/8 oz. I can not get much distance and this Daiwa Costal Reel seems to backlash often. Maybe this reel should just be used with baits over 1/2 oz. I have been using 6 pound line and I'm starting to believe this reel is for a heavier application. Or I'm just lame and can't cast very well. Thank you, Gup"

a great all around reel,August 7, 2006
By tgif92662
"this reel is for anyone looking for versatility. If your looking to fish from bass to bonito, this is an excellent reel. I've found this reel great for casting and has a surpurb drag system. I recently used it on an open party boat out of San Diego and had no problem bringing in Bonito. I'm taking this reel fresh water fishing for the first time and I'm excited to see how it performs. For the cost and quality, this reel is hard to beat."

Daiwa Costal is great for saltwater applications,May 21, 2006
By Suttonfrom Southern California
"For saltwater use, this reel performs well, but if you plan to use this for any fresh water use besides flippin or swim bait fishing, it is not the best. The Daiwa Advantage, which I also own is a perfect reel for fresh water bassin'. If you are a saltwater fisherman, this is a great reel."

Best Reel for the Money,April 26, 2006
By Trout Killerfrom Houston, TX
"I purchased this reel in late 2005. As a longtime user of Abu Garcia C-3, and recently D-6, series reels I was hesitant to change over to a low profile design. I'm glad I did. The Coastal is the best reel I've used. It is small and lightweight with tremendous feel, yet powerful enough to handle Trout and Reds. I have since bought another and would recommend the Coastal to anyone looking for value and quality in a reel. You will be pleased!"

Daiwa Inshore Coastal,April 1, 2006
By Michael2841from Tx
"I just purchased one of these reels, and I have to say it is the best reel I have ever used. The reel is very smooth and easy to cast, it can easily be cast very long distances. I also like the speed of the reel. It is fairly light and very easy to palm for a full day of hardcore fishing."
