DON'T HESISTATE!!!, May 13, 2009

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money
Disadvantages: none

"Don't hesitate to get this reel. I fish both freshwater and saltwater. From inshore to offshore using the Daiwa Luna... as a matter of fact I have two always rigged to go because there is almost nothing they can't handle. I've caught everything from Sailfish to Tarpon to Largemouth Bass and this reel has never let me down. It doesn't matter whether you're fishing mono or braid, the reel in great. Smooth drag, great anti-backlash mechanism, and not to mention a beautiful reel that stands up to reel (no pun intended) abuse"

AWESOME REEL!!!, November 14, 2008
By STEELFISHN

"First, stop reading this review right now and BUY THE REEL!!!!!!!!....I use the 300 for Tautog fishing in VA, it has the muscle to pull those bulldog Tog right out of the rocks, 12 pound Tog is the biggest right now on this reel and had no problems, didn't even think it was that big till it came to the top of the water, then the fish immediately dove for the bottom and with a smooth and silk drag and cranking power to match, didn't stand a chance. Matched it up with a 7'6" Heavy action Shimano Teramar and it cast like a dream. Removed the factory handle and added a power handle to it, now it'll pull a stomp....great for the bottom fisherman, great for the finesse fisherman....Tautog/flounder/sheepshead/trigger fish/whiting/sea trout/red fish/spadefish/Striper....never any problem, first chance I get, I'm going site casting for Cobia with it too, though I'm just a little worried about the line capacity :-), but I'll just throw some braid on it and lock the drag down when they try to run.. HA HA...I'm not crazy to put this reel up against that kind of fish, that's just how much confidence I have in this reel. I say again...BUY IT!!!!! Tight Lines."

Superior construction goes a long way, March 17, 2008
By gken from Southern Maine

"I fish for inland stripers and blue in the rivers here in southern maine, This reel handles just about anything. I hooked a 4 foot bull shark that was chasing mackerel up the river and the drag handled all the runs and pulling this fish could muster. I'll tell ya I was surprised to see a shark on my like instead of the big blue I was expecting! Great reel, I am sold and wont go back to penn or shimano. Good luck, and best fishes!"

Great Reel!!!, February 8, 2008
By BigBassSlayer from San Diego, CA.

"I bought the Luna 300 and have it on a Seeker Blue Lighting II for fishing the kelp patties and other light fishing. I used to have the Calcutta and when time came to get a new one I sprung for the Luna and love it, no problems at all and smooth as can be. I plan to get another when a new one is needed. You can't go wrong with Luna."

Great reel, November 6, 2007
By rewies

"Bought this reel over the shimano calcutta and the penn 975 and was very satisfied. Used primarily for fluke and light tackle bass and blues in NY. Nice casting and jigging reel with a good feel."

TD Luna 103, February 26, 2007
By Slim2n1 from East Central Florida

"As a huge Shimano fan it took me a while to get around to trying a Daiwa. What held me back was mainly the magnetic cast control system which I had on a different reel years ago. It just didn't seem to work as well for me as the centrifical weights. Well I must say that in that respect this reel really works well. In fact, on windy days with a light lure I would say it is better than the centrifical system. This reel is very much like the Calcutta. I believe it has a few less bearings, but it really doesn't detract from the performance. I actually like the thumb bar better. It has a more solid positive feel when depressed, but a bit of a metallic ping when snapping back into engagement. (Which would probably not be noticed by 90% of the folks out there.) The biggie was: Does that multi disc drag system really make it a lot smoother than the Calcutta which has, I think, only one or two fiber washers in the drag? Well, surprisingly, no. But it certainly is sufficient even if not better. I like the reel a lot and it is slightly less expensive than Shimano's offering. If I had to complain about one thing it would be those plastic handles. It's one of those things where you ask yourself "Did these guys try this out before the put it into production?" Some rubber grips would be much more comfortable and less slippery when wet. Nevertheless, I'm happy with mine. Get you one and I bet you will be too."

Awesome Big Game Reel, June 12, 2006
By fishtrekker from Northern California, Sacramento area

"I fish for salmon, striper, steelies, yellowtail, catfish, bass, and halibut. I brought the 300 for the line capacity but was surpised by the castibity of the reel. I have no problem casting smaller baits(1/4oucne) and the drag has handled yellowtail runs with no problems. I highly recommend this for reel for freshwater biggame and inshore fishermen. It will be one of the most used weapons in your arsenal of fish slaying toys. Tight lines."

Best baitcaster I have used in it class., April 5, 2006
By Peter from South Australia

"Its the best bait caster that I have used in its class, the bearings are super smooth, casting is excellent, and most imporantly the drag is also very smooth and well designed.I would recommend it to any serious fisho. Well done Team Daiwa. Keep up the quality gear, there are some of us who appreciate it."
