Excellent bait rod!, November 17, 2009
By TeamMcFishingProStaff from Stockton, CA

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money, well balanced

"Bought this rod in 9 foot length to use as an affordable rod to match with a Penn Live Liner reel. Put 50lb braid on it and put it to the test on the California Delta. Used as big as 4 ounce sinkers on sliders and caught striped bass all day long. Now here is the interesting part, I used this surf rod on a balancer in the boat! It balances just ahead of the reel seat perfectly. I will be buying another one soon."

good for the money, November 4, 2009
By nightrunr from UPSTATE NEW YORK

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"I purchased the 9' rod for a starter surf rod.I teamed it up with a older penn 710z reel which I took out of retirement.I threw a 3 ounce double bottom rig fishing for spot croaker during a week long vacation on the obx.this rod performed very well,it had no problem casting the 3 ounces of lead out past the breakers(which I really didnt have to go past the breakers).this rod had good bite detection.the only problem I had was fishing this rod all to myself.I would and will put a newer faster reel on this rod.and if it does break,no big deal,it didnt cost that much.every bit of quality that penn is known for is present in this rod."

broken rod, September 8, 2009
By waste5years

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design
Disadvantages: Durability

"take this baby to the beach over the labor day weekend. It broke the 3rd time I use it. It snapped on the top half when I was casting a 3 oz sinker with small bait. I hope it's a small possibility event. The Bass pro didn't give me a hard time to replace it although I didn't bring my receipt."

Good Rod, April 27, 2009
By mrurbina from charlotte,nc

"I use the 10ft rods and they're pretty good just that i've had 2 break where the two parts join. I use 3-4oz lead and last time it kept cracking until it finally cracked to where half fell off. Remember to get a warranty and BPs will just replace it."

Great Purchase, October 12, 2008
By FishBS from Richmond, VA

"I recently purchased a 10 footer for an OBX trip and was very pleased with the rod's performance. I enjoyed the light weight feel with the ability to get the bait out easily. I paired it with a Penn 5500 and found the combination worked great. I would highly recommend this rod."

Great value, September 12, 2007
By BeachBob

"I use the 8' version teamed up with a Captiva CV4000 and 12# mono for light surf and jetty fishing. This rod/reel combo works great for flicking out spoons and jigs for blues and stripers, and tossing bait to bottom feeders. Very lightweight, easy to hold and cast for hours, tough as nails. Best light surf combo I've had in 50+ years of fishing."

"Very light graphite core surf rod. I paired it with a smooth Daiwa spinning reel. It casts a country mile."

get the offerings way out there !, October 22, 2006
By goinfishin1 from Waterford, NJ

"I do most of my fishing from a pier in NJ and the 10' Penn power-stick is awesome in performance with getting my bait way out there. most others can't compete with sending their bait where I can. Thanks Penn."
