Incredible rod, November 16, 2009
By Anonymous from KY

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money, strength
Disadvantages: rick clunn series is discontinued

"I just recently got this rod along with a Rick Clunn 7.1:1 baitcaster & strung it with 30# PowerPro.
I chose the 7' Spinnerbait rod and have not been disappointed. It didn't hurt that I saved $50 total on clearance.
With braid, not only can I feel everything the lure does, I can hear it bumping off cover & bottom resonating through the guides and blank.
The rod sets the hook for you, when a fish hits it, the tip is soft enough to let them take it before setting the hook.
This rod is incredibly stout, I wore myself out TRYING to cast it the 1st time out, the next time I let the rod do the work and absolutely fell in love. The PowerHump grip feels just right in my hand and I don't feel like I'm squeezing a marker when holding it.
I've used it for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, crankbaits, Texas-rigged worms, & 1/2oz jigs with no noticeable degrade in technique. With the exception of very light crankbaits, but that's due the the super high speed reel (you just can't slow it down that much).

really suprised, September 19, 2009
By frogginnasty from NC/GA

Advantages: Performs well, Value for money

"I bought this as a second frog rod (7 Heavy/Fast) to my st. croix 6'6 medium/mod. fast. I walked around basspro shops for a good hour or two testing out every rod in the store. I was looking for a 7' med/heavy or heavy and my price range was about 150 -I walked away with this for 79.99. It just felt the best to me. and i saved some money

I only had one reel (revo inshore) while i waited on the other to be delivered (Revo STX) so I decided to take the new rod on a trip back home. While initially i was only gonna use this rod for froggin stuff, I prefer this rod on nearly all application to the St. Croix. In three days I was able to catch a lady fish in the ocean (crankbait), a striper in the sound (gulp with jighead) a redfish in the sound (weightless superfluke) and a largemouth in blackwater (zoom toad). This thing is so much more sensative than my 6'6 medium st. croix. I can auctually feel the bottom!!! and its a heavy action.

I'm sold on this thing. My only question is how long its gonna last. So far so good, I fish freshwater and saltwater equally hard and im kinda iffy about taking this thing in the salt all the time, but time will tell-

Also the power grip was really uncomfortable after the first day of fishing, but i don't even notice it now.

great rod, i wish i had the money to do away with the st. criox and get another, I'll just have to see the longevity of this thing before i do that. those st. croix last forever.

Best Striper Rod, February 22, 2009
By Anonymous from Milledgeville, GA

"I bought this rod for crankbaits, I purchased the 7 ft. MH cranbait rod. I use it now for jigging and Casting spoons, 1 and 1 1/2 oz. in size. I also use it for 5" and 6" swimbaits. This rod is excellent for trolling jigs for hybrids and stripers. I plan on purchasing another one this spring. I like the fact that a countier weight can be added to this rod as well. This is one of my most valued rods."

Awesome Rod, February 17, 2009
By Hopper2186 from Bass Heaven, SC

"I love this rod, its very well constructed feels very at home in my hand, has all the power you need for any freshwater application. Sensitivity is un matched I use this rod more than I use my St. Croix's. The Power hump grip makes a big difference in rod feel and ease of casting and retirieveing it just feels natural to me. This combo was given to me as a gift and I have used it with great confidence and care since then. The only drawback is the line guide has broken out of the top rings on two of the three rods I have but Im getting them repaired locally so no biggie. Well Balanced and Well made Awesome Rod BPS"

Sweet Rod, February 16, 2009
By Zags from Spokane, WA

"I own a Pro Qualifier baitcast rod, a Pro Finesse baitcast rod, and one of these. I purchased the 6'6 worm rod. I actually like the other two better for worms, soft plastics, and finesse type baits. The PQ & PF are stiffer, higher mod. graphite, making them much more sensitive rods in my opinion. I actually use this rod for throwing all my lighter lipless cranks and spinner baits. It has a really soft tip, and more of a parabolic bend. It loads nicely when a fish hits treble hooks on a moving bait. So while it is not used for what I intended, I am glad I purchased it. The rod is very comfortable, and I really like the foam but . I honestly believe BPS makes the best rods for the buck. I have been impresses with all my rods, and I paid less than a hundred bucks for each."

nice rod but the look is way overdone, December 31, 2008
By 21farms from the delta, CA

"i got the 7' worm/dropshot rod. i'm surprised by how slow the action is...for wormin' and dropshotting, i expected an extra fast tip but this feels more like a moderate-fast tip to me. other than that, i do like the way this rod fishes. the problem is, i rarely pull this rod out of my rod locker unless i'm fishing solo or in the dark because the graphics on this rod are just too much.

here's what i mean. right in front of the foregrip is a shiny BPS logo. in front of that, overlaid over some fancy guide wraps are two silver arrowheads between three blue diamonds. in front of that is rick's signature-which is fine-but then they had to emblazon it more with "signature series" (isn't that self-evident?) and "IM8 graphite" in such big letters? the reel seat shouts "engineered for sensitivity" and "XPS". the handle informs you that it's a "powerhump™". then, down near the buttcap is a metallic blue band with the silver silhouette of a soaring hawk on it. my first question is "what does the hawk have to do with anything?"...is rick known as "the hawk"? and what do the arrowheads symbolize? i sure wish BPS would have exercised some restraint here and went more toward understated elegance.

Take a seat, December 29, 2008
By Confused1 from Northern VA

"I originally got this rod for X-mas a couple of years ago, the 7' Hvy action rod for C'riggin. Love the feel of the rod, the castability, the action, the whole 9 yards. Only problem is that everytime I set the hook on a fish, the reel comes out of the reel seat. The screw down seems to become stripped upon tightening. I have only thrown swimbaits, frogs, and spinnerbaits with this rod, but every one of the fish that I have caught on this thing has pulled the reel right off. I took the very first rod back to BPS for a replacement only to find that I have the same problem with this rod also. I'll be taking it back for yet another one and hopefully I won't have the same issue again, if so, I'll go with another brand. Hence my confusion, I like the rod, but I don't think that the rod likes me. Wish me luck."

Quality Rod!, September 27, 2008
By Crimedawg from Olathe, KS

"Just got back from trying this rod out. I'm pretty impressed. Bought 6'6 M Worm/Drop and hooked 3 decent sized bass with no problem. Fast Tip IS fast with plenty of backbone to set the hook. Not that appearance means squat, but this is one good-looking rod. Paired it with BPS Rick Clunn 6.4:1 reel which really looks sharp AND catches fish. You can't beat his combo for <$150! Nice work BPS!"

"very good choice for an all around rod. i have caught catfish, striper, bass, trout all on the same rod excelant choice. cant beat it for the price $99 i would have paid more. all you get out of other more expensive rods is a brand name. bps rods have everything that top end rods have at a fraction of the price."

Great Rod, Great Price, April 16, 2008
By Klintrock from Naperville

"I am always looking at new equipment, technologies, etc. These rods are fantastic to fish in all situations. I dont like weak rods and I do like the versatile rods like these. I would compare them and rate them superior to Falcon original, St Croix Premier Crankbait. Better than others around the 100 price point. Great for swimbaits too."

Great Rod, January 17, 2008
By Mozo from Minnesota bass fishing

"The RC rods are a great rod for the money. Yes there are other rods with higher graphite content (more sensitive) but for cranks, spinnerbaits, frogging and pitching they do the job. Very durable, feel good in the hand. The action of the crankbait series is very good, also the Carolina rig is great for topwater frog in the lilly pads. I use 7 footers."

Good rod ...but, September 2, 2007
By Kybaitcaster from Northern Ky.

"I have 5 of these rods set up with Team Diawa Viento reels. Love the feel and action of the rods. I have the spinnerbait, crankbait and carolina rig rods. The only problem I have is that in every tournament I have a tip eyelet spin out, BPS has been great about replacing them but I have to go after every Tourney. I like the Extreme rods better."

What a let down!!!, July 26, 2007
By LTMoore from Columbus, Ga.

"I ordered this rod a couple of months ago. First thing is , it will not accept the XPS balance kit. It was noticeably heavier than the other BPS rods I own (6 of them). It felt awkward in my hand, probably due to the weight. The only reason I give it 2 stars is because BPS let me exchange it for a BPS Pro Qualifier(Great rod and great exchange). I highly recommend all the other BPS rods I own but not this one. I have the Johnny Morris Elite(Excellent),2 Extremes,3 Pro Qualifiers."

Good Rod....But, July 12, 2007
By Anonymous from Virginia Beach, Va

"I have 4 of these rods. They are a very good rod but personally the Power Hump Grip really puts a soreness in my hand at the end of the day. Because of this one thing I have been migrating to G-loomis rods. Might just be my hand size though. Still a good rod!"
