Bill Dance uses Gamakatsu hooks exclusively.A long time favorite of serious bass fisherman everywhere, Gamakatsu’s EWG (Extra Wide Gap) Worm hook is hands down one of the toughest worm hooks on the market. Designed with an offset shank and incredibly sharp hook points, these hooks won’t bend in power situations and stay sharp even after getting drug across rocks all day. Available in red to provide a little extra strike enticing edge when you’re chasing lethargic bass.

My Most Used Worm Hook,
June 19, 2008
By sitrucfrom Mohave County, Arizona
"I use this hook in 1/0 thru 5/0 for all my worms and some other soft plastics. They are easy to rig, hold your bait well and are extremely sharp. They are strong and durable and keep bass hooked after setting the hook. They are an excellent choice whether using weightless, Texas or Carolina rigged."

Worth every penny!,
May 11, 2008
By easternwashingtonbassfrom Eastern Washington
"Wow where do i begin?! This hook is without a doubt the the perfect hook for fishing soft plastic lures! It has a VERY sharp barb for that perfect hookset. Also, these hooks don't give one bit when fighting that lunker! It's shank also provides for the seamless insert into your plastic worm for flawless fishing through whatever cover you decide to fish!"

stick it to 'em,
April 7, 2008
By Shadowgrass3from Huntsville, TX
"These hooks are so sharp, they practically set themselves in the fish's mouth. They are also easy to rig. With a good offset angle and the point lining up nicely with the eye you won't have trouble keeping your plastics straight on the hook. I like the way the hook protrudes slightly from the bait's body, because I just feel like it imparts a random action as the bait bounces off cover. I usually stick to a 2/0 or 3/0, but switch to larger sizes if the fish seem to be striking short, as I've noticed that the extra length on the hook seems to function the same as a trailer hook on a spinnerbait."

Great for many different baits,
March 19, 2008
By SmallieHunter
"These hooks are incredible... I use them for almost all of my texas-rigging and weightless soft plastics. They are very sharp, and they stay sharp. They are a smaller diameter than most other hooks, which I believe gives me better hooksets. I have never had problems with the hook bending or breaking like with other light-wire hooks. The only problem I have had with these hooks is that they sometimes allow the nose of the bait to slide down the hook, especially after you have caught a few fish. I tried other hooks that were made to prevent this, such as the G-lock and the HP hooks, but for whatever reason I seem to get much better hooksets with the Offset EWG hooks, so I'll stick with them."

Excellent Soft Plastics Hook !,
March 14, 2008
By Hawgfrom Georgia
"I exclusively use this hook from a #2 size for finesse applications all the way to a 4/0 for using with jerk baits . Always consistant , sharp and a wide variety of sizes to suit any soft plastic lure requirements you can think of . For Texas Rig or better yet - Texposed (with barb skin hooked through soft plastic) you would be hard pressed to find a better hook at any price ! I tend to use the black color hook more often than the red - but I have caught a number of bass on both so it is up to the user to decide which color they are most confident in using . As for the red color , through repeated use the red color will wear off in spots will give way to bare metal - but it doesn't seem to impact bass from not striking your lure ! Below is a quick guide for EWG hook sizes with soft plastics that has worked well for me over the years : Zoom 4 inch Dead Ringer : #2 or #1 size , Senko 3 inch : #2 or #1 size , NetBait or Zoom Finesse Worm : 1/0 , Zoom 4 inch Mini Lizard : 1/0 , Zoom Centipede or Luck "E" Strike French Fry : 1/0 , Zoom U-Tale : 2/0 , Bass Pro Tiny Beaver : 2/0 , Zoom Trick Worm : 2/0 , Zoom Baby Bush Hog : 2/0 , Zoom Super Fluke Jr. : 2/0, Senko or Yum Dinger 5 inch : 3/0 , Zoom or Yum 6 inch Lizard : 3/0 , Zoom Super Fluke : 4/0 . While these combinations have worked well for me with Spinning equipment , you may find going up one hook size with each to be more to your liking (especially with Baitcasting equipment and heavier line) ."

March 12, 2008
By scs4345from Smackover, Arkansas
"This hook is the best hook that I have ever used for big time bass fishing. They are surgical sharp, and offer enough durability to stand up to even the hardest hook sets. They won't bend or break. Just an outstanding hook made with the true bass fisherman in mind."

My Worm Hooks of Choice.,
March 10, 2008
By HowardBfrom Arizona
"I've tried a number of other wide gap hooks and found problems with most all of them. Some bend far too easily, some break, some lose their sharpness after only a few fish, the points on others fold over too easily.
The only hooks I haven't experienced major problems with is Gamakatsu. They're strong (in the eight or so years I've used them I've yet to have one break), they flex a considerable amount without bending permanently, and they stay incredibly sharp much longer than you would expect.
The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is, on rare occasions, the points will fold over. Once the point folds over, the hook is done. There's no amount of grinding or sharpening that can bring back the point. This is a rare occurrence, though. Far, far rarer than with many other hooks."

I'm Hooked!,
January 25, 2008
By UFCCavemanfrom Where ever the fish are
"I have used just about every offset shank worm hook there is. These stand out as the clear winner! Extra sharp right out of the bag every time, and no need to resharpen after a few fish. They penetrate very easily even when Texas rigged. They're quite strong, too. When the fish are sluggish and/or deep I like the red hooks. Otherwise, I (and the fish) seem to prefer the black ones.

Gamakatsu,
August 27, 2007
By Big Tunafrom Castaic, CA
"Ive been fishing with the gamakatsu hooks for about 2 years now. I used to use Mustad and Eagle Claw Lazer Sharps, but since I started using the gammy's, Ive been getting bit and staying hooked up. The steel that SPRO/ Gamakatsu uses is simply the thinnest, strongest, and for the hooks, sharpest in the world. Dont waste ur time, use gamakatsu. They're pretty cheap too."
