"I never felt the need to have one of these. I've always driven my boat onto my trailer, and I can hook the winch strap to the D-ring while leaning over the bow. This is never challenging when you have 2 people who can pull and back a trailer.

However, for the times where your alone and putting the boat on the trailer, this hook does save a lot of time and could be much safer. I've had situations where I've put my boat on the trailer, and then I've had do do a long jump from the boat to get back on to the pier. Also for some bigger launches that are 2 or 3 ramps wide, not all the ramps have running piers, so then you have to do the balancing act while walking on the tongue of the trailer while its all wet and slippery. I've never had a mishap and fallen in, but there could be a first time for everything.

I was prompted to buy this hook after using a friends hook last fall while helping him put his boat away. It's really very easy, much safer in some situations and a definite time saver when your by yourself. This hook is solid, it works very, very well, and I can't recommend it enough. I'll be using mine every time from now on!"

"Have had many other boaters, and fishermen amazed at how I can hook my boat to the winch strap without getting my feet wet, or trying to drive onto the trailer. The Capt.Hook Boat Retriver has saved me time and wet feet many times. However my wife does not like it when I use the hook when she is with me because she looses her excuse to go wading into the water. I am buying another Captain Hook for a good friends birthday. I figure at age 67 he doesn't need to wrestle his fishing boat in either, just hook it and let the winch do the work."
