Seems Cool,July 13, 2009
By DeeWahfrom Lawrence, MA
Advantages: Performs well, Style/Design, Value for money
"I bought this reel Yesterday so its kinda early to review it but................................... it a GREAT deal! I got it down at the shop just because I wanted a seconds set-up for fishing poppers while my chunk bait sat out there on my Baitrunner. This reel feels good. It cast pretty far. The only thing I don't like is the folding handle. The handle just does not "flow". I think overall it has great bang-4-da-buck."

tarpon
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money, good drag quality Disadvantages: frame has some flex
"decent reel, casts great. the frame has some flex. but I landed a 80 pound tarpon from the beach in about 45 minutes. drag stays smooth even with a tarpon run. great reel for the price."

Great Drag,June 4, 2009
By Seeker5000from So Cal
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money Disadvantages: loose handle
"I bought a pair of these for me and my son. We have been surf fishing in So. Cal. We have been doing it old school, with 12' rods and 20 lb test. We have taken them out 3 times so far and they have performed awesome. They cast like a dream. We have landed about 50 fish in the 3 trips. Only two of the fish were large enough to mention, 4' shovelnose guitarfish in the 25 to 30 lb range. They gave us a run for our money and the drags worked better than any spinner I had used in the past. Smooth as silk! If I was going to mention one design idea for Daiwa here, it would be to use a solid handle. The folding handle is convenient, but there is a little wiggle in it. I sure it would stand up to any fish I would ever attempt on a spinning reel, but it does not have a quality feel to it. We are still waiting for large shark to truly put these to the test. Tight lines and no lies :-)"

Cheep,August 9, 2007
By Howie
"I have a eight year old Diawa that is much better than this new Emcast. The spare spool is unfinished. When I took the reel out of the box it did not reel. I had to pull it apart and reassemble it the right way. But still had dried wax in the gears. A complete cleaning and rebuild was needed. But it's still very weak in the frame twisting a lot just reeling in a 4oz. sinker. I could not take it back where I bought it since Bass Pro SanAntonio is 150 miles away. I do not believe it will hold up to a 25lbs fish. So I am selling it. Howie"

Long Range,March 2, 2007
By Pauliefrom Boston
"For it's affordable price, it casts just as good as it's bigger brother, the Emblem. Mated to a 10ft Penn Power Stick with 30lbs braid, it goes! Daiwa did good with the titanium lip. How come the Emblem doesn't have that? Hmmm. Conclusion: Great investment for it's price and rockets your lure and bait way out there! Very comfortable handle and smooth retrieves. The front of my spool also corroded as well from saltwater. But it doesn't hinder the performance of the cast. Something I'll live with. It's a decent reel."

Okay reel,July 6, 2006
By Superfrom New Jersey
"This is a nice reel...Smooth and casts well. Drag is nice too. I use it often for surf fishing. Two problem, though. First, the gold finish on the plastic ring behind the spool pits/corrodes easily from saltwater. I also had the bail spring fail and needed a repair."

"I use my Daiwa Emcast Plus EVERYTIME I go fishing. From shore to offshore this reel is a perfect set up! It allows LONG casting from shore in saltwater as well as a great short casting reel for freshwater. I HIGHLY recomend this reel!!!!"
