In addition to the excellent bass fishing, anglers will have success targeting crappie and catfish.Lake Ray Roberts Lake Ray Roberts has great bass fishing, with 6, 7, 8 and 9-pounders a regular occurrence. Lake Ray Roberts has already given up 14-pound fish! Slab crappie pushing 3 to 4-lbs. are caught regularly. Lake Ray Roberts also offers good white bass and channel cat action.Lake LivingstonA productive and diverse fishery, Lake Livingston's greatest amount of fishing pressure is applied to the abundant white bass populations. Lake Livingston also offers excellent angling opportunities for crappie, catfish, stripe (pure and hybrid) and black bass. Cedar Creek Lake Cedar Creek Lake's shallow, warm water sustains thriving populations of largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass and white bass. A 12-lb. largemouth bass stands as the current lake record and plenty of 3-lb. white bass are available. Richland Chambers LakeRichland Chambers Lake's excellent forage base sustains marvelous growth rates for gamefish. Black bass are frequently targeted here and many fish with double-digit weights are reported. Largemouth bass in the 10-lb. range are not unusual. Other angling opportunities include white bass, crappie and catfish. Lake WhitneyAn abundance of open water habitat and a strong forage base allow large populations of striped and white bass to thrive. Good numbers of largemouth bass are also found and an occasional smallmouth bass may be found. Channel, flathead and blue catfish fishing is good within the lake.Belton LakeBelton Lake is well-known for its healthy numbers of hybrid striped bass, and can also be a good largemouth bass lake from late February through April. Belton Lake also offers good white bass, smallmouth bass, crappie and catfish fishing. Stillhouse Hollow ReservoirLargemouth bass are the most abundant gamefish found in this very clear, deep reservoir. Anglers will find good smallmouth bass fishing year-round, and good opportunities for channel catfish, sunfish, crappie and white bass.Canyon LakeDominated by steep rocky banks, isolated flooded timber and clear water typical of a highland reservoir, Canyon Lake provides outstanding angling opportunities for largemouth, white and striped bass. Channel, blue, and flathead catfish are present in good numbers. Smallmouth bass are also present in small numbers.Caddo LakeCaddo Lake offers anglers tremendous possibilities for trophy-size (over 8 lbs.) largemouth bass. Caddo Lake also supports good populations of crappie, white bass and sunfish. Chain pickerel, a smaller cousin of the northern pike, is also present and is frequently sought by anglers.Grapevine LakeGrapevine Lake has many drop-offs and underwater structure changes that provide good largemouth bass fishing. Healthy populations of white bass, white crappie and channel catfish make them popular with anglers.Lavon LakeLavon Lake is well-known for its outstanding winter and spring crappie fishing. Anglers will also find good opportunities for striped, white and largemouth bass, sunfish, channel and blue catfish.O.H. Ivey ReservoirO.H. Ivey Reservoir is starting to produce largemouth bass weighing over 10-lbs. The reservoir's large crappie numbers make for excellent fishing with many weighing in close to 2-lbs. White bass and catfish round out the gamefish species found here. Eagle Mountain LakeLocated northwest of Fort Worth, Eagle Mountain boasts good populations of largemouth and spotted bass. Anglers targeting white bass are most productive in the spring as white bass move into the West Fork Trinity River. Other opportunities include white crappie, channel, flathead and blue catfish. Lake TawakoniLake Tawakoi's robust numbers of white, hybrid and striped bass provide great opportunities, while largemouth bass see less pressure but still offer good numbers. Anglers can also target blue catfish, channel catfish, white crappie and black crappie. Lake Buchanan and Inks LakeLake Buchanan is the northern most lake within the Highlands Chain of Lakes and boasts excellent numbers of striped and white bass. Under-rated populations of largemouth and Guadalupe bass are often overlooked. Rounding out the fishing opportunities are good populations of channel catfish, flathead catfish and blue catfish. Lyndon B. Johnson and Marble FallsPart of the Highland Chain of Lakes, Lyndon B. Johnson and Marble Falls holds one of the best populations of crappie of any of the Highland Lakes. Largemouth bass are the most sought after gamefish, but the lake offers good opportunities for Guadalupe bass, channel catfish and blue catfish.Lake Travis One of the state's premier tournament lakes, Lake Travis' 271 miles of shoreline provide ample habitat and structure for a variety of fish species. An abundant largemouth bass population dominates angling activities on the lake, but Guadalupe bass, crappie and catfish also provide good action.Fayette County LakeThe bass population is excellent on this power plant lake. Catches of 3 lb largemouth are common. Nearly 90% of all bass taken are Floridas. 2,400 acres.Lake ConroeLots of white bass and largemouths. Heavily stocked lake. Crappie and Channel cat numbers are good. 21,000 acres.Lake Fork ReservoirRegarded as the best bass lake in Texas and one of the top in the U.S. 36 of the largest bass in Texas came from this lake. There are good crappie here too. 27,690 acres.Lake HoustonAbundant Crappie and bream. Bass average 1-1/2 to 3 lbs. Some largemouth reach the low teens. White bass, hybrids inhabit this lake too. 12,700 acres.Lake Ray HubbardChannel cats, largemouth bass and white crappie grow faster in Ray Hubbard than any other lake in the state. Contains black bass too. Lake PalestineHybrid stripes do well here. Crappie, largemouth bass, blue and channel catfish populations are strong. 25.500 acres.Sam Rayburn ReservoirThe huge, fertile body of water is a largemouth haven and regarded as one of the top bass lakes in Texas, if not in the nation. Crappie is a favorite and 3 species of catfish are in abundance. 114,806 acres.Toledo Bend North (Patroon Bay to Logansport) The tremendous forage in Toledo Bend creates a quality fishery here. Heavy stocking promotes quality numbers of stripers, crappie and largemouth. Also has catfish, bream, white bass and yellow bass.Toledo Band South (The Dam to Patroon Bay)The tremendous forage in Toledo Bend creates a quality fishery here. Choke Canyon ReservoirUsing Texas-sized measurements, largemouth in Choke Canyon Reservoir are growing to semi-trophy proportions. The lake record is 14.67 pounds, and 10-pounders are common. Crappie and blue catfish numbers are strong.Lake O' the PinesLake O' the Pines is an outstanding largemouth fishery. A combination of dark-colored water and an average depth of 13' keep fish close to the surface. Spotted bass also do extremely well in Lake O’ the Pines, and according to some local guides, four out of every 10 black bass caught are ''spots''. Other angling opportunities include black crappie, channel catfish, redear sunfish, bluegill and other types of catfish.
