Like Jakes in Thunderstorm,September 17, 2007
By Crow Killafrom Tennessee
"My cousin gave me one of these calls to use on a hunt a couple of weeks ago. I have been hunting squirrels all my life and I have never “needed a call” so I swore I wouldn’t use it unless I “needed” it, which I decided would be left to judgment later on.
We were hunting river bottoms with cypress, white oak, and hickory trees; therefore, food was plentiful with tons of cover so there wasn’t a lot of detectable movement. I walked up on a grove of cypress and oak trees and chose a spot at the bottom of a huge cypress. I sat there for about 20 minutes and despite all cutting and scratching, I couldn’t place any of them. It was here that my squirrel hunting strategies changed forever. Reluctantly, I got out the call and popped it a few times and I impressed myself with my barking ability. Without any hesitation, and I mean I hadn’t even finished the full barking serenade, those squirrels lit up like a bunch of jakes hammerin’ back at a Spring thunder storm. They were all around me. About that time, one ran out on a limb about 30 yards in front of me shaking his tail and barking defiantly back at me. I smoked him. I marked his fall and as soon as the echo from the shot subsided, I sounded a light distress squeal (as suggested by Mr. Alex Rutledge in the instructional tape that came with the call) and in about 30 seconds here came another one ready to avenge his buddy’s demise. He fell no more than ten feet from the first one.
There were several more similar situations that Sunday, but my point is the call works as advertised and much better than I expected. I used the call primarily as a locator, but I tried the other functions (chattering and distress) enough to know that they work too. I have used Hunter's Specialties products before and have always found that their stuff is very reliable. I have already suggested this call to friends and I'm buying my dad one for his birthday because I'm not giving mine up!"

Great Call,September 8, 2007
By Whitetail27
"This is an awesome squirrel call that is very effective. I love the distress call port, you just put your mouth up to it and inhale. This call is easy to use and is a great product at a reasonable price."
