Hobbs Creek™ Large Arbor Fly Reels or Spare Spools

Hobbs Creek™ Large Arbor Fly Reels or Spare Spools

When was the last time you saw an all metal large arbor disc drag fly reel at this price? The answer is "never", unless you already own a Hobbs Creek. We don't like plastic reels. They're cheaper to manufacture, but nobody likes to lose a fish because of a warped spool, or a broken part. The rugged Hobbs Creek fly reel was designed to serve you for many seasons with a minimum of care. Experience the performance of a smooth disc drag and a large arbor design, and have change left over for gasoline and flies!

"I have had this rell for a few months now and I fish with it alot, at least three times a week in the back country here in SW Florida for Snook, Reds, Spotted Seatrout an this reel with a 8 wt Reddinton rod is a a nice setup for what im doing. I have even cought a few bigger fish that make long hard runs with this setup and I palmed the reel when they ran and landed every fish! This is my first setup for saltwater fising and I love it! I really dont see any reason for spending any more money on a reel. Sure there are some nicer reels that I wanted but I am satisfied with this reel . Also after the hard use in the salt water I rinsed it every time and I can see no signs of corrosion. Nice reel!"

Sweet!, June 19, 2009
By Tantheman from Altamonte Springs, FL

Advantages: Ease of use

"I don't own this reel but I do the fly casting class on saturday morning and I use the TFO TiCr fly rod with this reel. Man do I love it! I own a fleuger starter fly rod kit and the reel makes soooooo much noise I think it scares the fish! With this reel, it is big and SUPER QUIET. It looks cool, too. You can not get a better reel, and the price is outstanding! $40 bucks, you've gotta be kidding me! Overall this is a great reel. Buy it, cause its awesome!"

Superb reel for the money!, June 3, 2009
By JSSpencer from Pelham, AL

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"I purchased the HCII reel to go along with my 9' TFO 5 wt professional series rod and the reel is perfectly matched.

The finish is well done and it is easily switched from a left hand to right hand retrieve. This reel is an excellent option for the beginner to the experienced fly fisherman. I like mine so much I plan to buy the HC1 for my bamboo fly rod.

Great Reel !!, April 7, 2009
By Micah from Batesville, Mississippi

"My White River Classic reel was recently stolen.
I am on a tight budget, so I selected the Hobbs Creek 7/8.
As soon as I held it, I felt the quality! I immediately purchased it, drove 9 hours home and with no sleep took it to the river to fish.
This reel is flawless! There is nothing more I could ask for in a reel!
Thank You Bass Pro for having such high quality products at an affordable price!

nice silent reel for the people, April 2, 2009
By Taddei from Yokohama, Japan

"I don't have fished for several years because I was so irritated by my former noisy fly reel ... in reality, I've been too busy to fish. Now I'm back to fly fishing and found that large arbor reel comes into fashon. After that, I bought this model to know why people like these types of reel. I've used it from this January, so I'm not sure whether large arbor keeps line straight eternally or not yet.
As of now, all I can say is that this reel is very light and works very silently, without any trouble. I must see if the line goes scroll for further 6 months or so. That's why I don't give five stars.

Quiet and smooth, March 13, 2009
By coachbob from Louisiana/Florida/Colorado

"I currently have several HC reels and use them instead of several much more expensive reels I own. As reels go, more money doesn't mean better. The HCs are smooth operating and have a good drag, but my favorite quality is that they are quiet. I can't stand a loud click on a reel, and that is missing in these reels. No complaints and no breakdowns even though I mistreat them badly.
I use them primarily for bass, bluegill and trout. I have fished them in -20s wind chill and 100+ temps with no problem.

Good and Bad, September 28, 2008
By Troutgod from Mechanicsburg, Pa

"Bought the Hobb's Creek for my 5 wt and I love it. Light weight, nice drag for 4 lb trout. No complaints about the performance so I thought I would get the 7-8 weight and try for salmon. While performing OK, the drag is just too weak for 20-30 lb kings. I tightened the drag all the way down and it's just not enough. I still have to control the reel by palming. This past week I hooked up with a giant salmon in NY. The fish headed down river and while trying to control by palming the reel the handle broke off. 35+ lb fish and no way to reel.
Great reel for trout. Not so great for salmon.

great reel for price, June 24, 2008
By jdavis22 from Clanton, AL

"I got this reel in a 3 wt to go on a TFO 7'6" 3 wt rod and it balanced perfectly. I am impressed with the overall smoothness of the reel especially in the drag. I used it in North Carolina and it worked perfectly. I will definately purchase another one soon."

No need to buy a $200 reel, May 29, 2008
By Juiceman from Kentucky

"Caught a 25", 9lb freshwater drum on this 6wt reel and it handled the situation beautifully. The drag was easy to adjust and kept the fish at bay and easy to handle. Love this reel...I'm getting another one for my 5wt rod soon."

incredible value, March 5, 2008
By choucas from Paris France

"after buying one HCR2 with a White River #5
weight rod , my first ever fly fishing outfit , i had only positive comments from experienced fishermen here in France : i have used it everywhere since , from alaska to Chile , Austria ; i bought several spare spools with different line types or weight and then another complete reel for better versatility with my other rods . for most freshwater situations this compact and light reel will do the job , the price will free your mind to take it in difficult terrains .

white river HC-1, October 18, 2007
By bob from Reading MA

"I bought this reel in the spring of this year for a spare to tote with me in the event i needed it. I use it for my sinking line on my Sage 4 weight , 9' , rod, and it is a perfect compliment to my growing outfits. The drag is that of a reel costing a hundred dollars more. smooth and and worry free. I landed a 17 inch rainbow from the Deerfied river here in Massachusetts and it performed quite well. I am certainly going to purchase another. It is a wonderful reel thus far and I have recomended it to my friends and other fly guys.
Good job on this one.

best fly reel ever owned, July 12, 2007
By SJ from Parker, CO

"I bought my first Hobbs Creek Large Arbor fly reel last year. It's the best reel I have ever owned. I liked it so much I bought a second one this spring. For an inexpensive reel I like that they are made of metal. For the price you can buy another reel instead of just an extra spool for different lines."
