"This has been my go to line for many years. No complaints yet. Tough and cast well. Have been trying some of the copolymer and flouro lines but a bit spendy. Had a rebate going so got a couple spools."

Breaks easily

Disadvantages: Performance, Durability
"Perhaps I'm just not used to lightweight lines, but I purchased the 6 lbs test for use on my new ultralight rod & reel, which came prespun with some really stiff, red 4 lbs test used for crappie fishing. The prespun line didn't cast very well and kept birdnesting, so I replaced it with 6lbs Trilene XL Smooth Casting line. Now, the rod casts great, with no birdsnest! But I broke the line once while tieing the line onto a jig (I guess I pulled too hard), and twice while casting it at structure. Each time I cast I had a Texas-rigged, 5" worm with an 1/8 ounce bullet weight, separated by a red plastic bead. At soon as the lure hit the structure I was aiming for, the line busted, and not at the knot. I used a double-loop, improved clinch knot as I usually do, and I've never had this problem before."

Best Monofilament

Advantages: Ease of use, Style/Design, Performs well, Quality
Disadvantages: Durability
"This is by far the best monofilament line to use! I've used the 8lb, 10lb, and 12lb test on my reels in the past few years. The lighter the line, the better casting. If you're fishing small ponds or lakes, the 10lb is perfect. I use 12lb just in case of snags/hookups.
As far as colors are concerned, I've used all the colors and found the blue is clearest in the water. Obviously the thicker the line, the more visible (because of the diameter.) The lo-vis green was a good choice for me for fishing murky waters. I like the clear too. They're all great colors to use. The blue looks more like purple, and would proably be best suited for clear lakes. The lo-vis green looks more like moss green, and is a great choice for semi-murky waters.
Overall, I love this line on my spinning reels. Can't go wrong with this stuff. It's a great buy. I highly recommend it."

"I am impressed after so many years, this line continues to perform. It is cheap in price, but it is strong for mono. It has a decent amount of stretch which and it floats which I am looking for when throwing topwater."

Very Strong and Cast Far

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Value for money, Quality
"I had this line in 17lb on an Abu Garcia 5000 reel and Abu Garcia rod combo I bought from Wal Mart. I love it. It cast a mile. Further than any line I have used so far. It also is strong. Not to mention it not very exspensive.
Quick story about the line.
I over casted my target area with a BPS XPS Rattle shad and landed in a tree branch about 12 feet over the water. **Like i said it cast further than I thought**
In order to not lose my lure i decided I troll over to the tree reel up the slack and then try to use my trolling motor to back up and pull the lure free from the tree.
I started to troll my boat backwards **54lb Motorguide speed setting 2/5**, the lure**tied on with a palomar knot** was not coming out of the tree, and the boats backward movement was actually stopped for a few seconds before the line finally gave way.
So I highly recommend this line to anyone looking for a cheaper priced line that has a good combo of stregnth and castibility."

"Other fishing lines don't hold up like Berkley. I use this line for not only casting but trolling. It holds very well when you have a hog Walleye on the end of your line. I recommend this anyone I know or talk to. I can't say anything bad about this product!!!"

"In general I prefer braid the most. It has less birds nests less memory, cuts through weeds much better and help retrieve snagged lure when you have 30lb when 8lb mono can be used. As far a mono is concerned this is great line but I would not suggest using more then 8lb on a spinning outfit and as heavy as you like on a baitcaster. Price wise mono is much cheaper but braid lasts longer."

"i have been using line for a few years now and i have had great results with it. I have had no line snap on me when i set the hook or when i am goin through weeds..this is just a good line and its good for any type of fishing. The only thing is the line does have alot of memory and if it stretches it stays like that but thats the only thing i have issues with."

"okay so ive spent a ton of money on line over the years, trying different line, flourocarbon, braid, and mono. Every line ive tried either gives me a ton of problems or just plain out sucks. for this kind of money, you honestly cant go wrong. i have used this line for 3 years now after spending at least 5 years finding the right line. i was skeptical about it because it was so cheap, but forreal...you CANT go wrong with this line!
low memory
decently sensitive
good hook sets
doesent stretch as much as other mono
smooth casting on either baitcast or spinning
never lost a fish due to breakage
and most importantly, with this economy the way it is.........INEXPENSIVE!!!

"For 25+ years, XL has remained a staple in my tackle boxes. Now my son and daughter cast and catch with it. Very dependable and I can't even begin to count how many thousands of crappies I've brought in with this line. Inexpensive, dependable, and good knot strength."

"Just started using this line recently after years of using Stren original and so far i'm impressed. It's casts super smoothly and has better abrasion resistance and lower memory than Stren. It also seems to have lower stretch which is a plus for me. I also like that it's available in clear blue like Stren. (I like the extra visibility when using suspending crankbaits) Trilene is now my mono of choice!"

Absolute Garbage

By Hallrl

Advantages: it comes on a spool
Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance, makes good rat nests
".Don't get me wrong- I generally love Berkley products, gloves, tools glasses- anything but Line. I frequently try out new lines, braid, mono, fluorocarbon, you name it, from Walleye to Bass, Crappie to Steel head to trout, everything freshwater I have not yet found a Berkley line I have liked. I tried this line a couple of years ago and was not impressed, in fact this specific line was a major turn off to me. Recently I received one in the mail from the North American Fishing Club to try out- and against my better judgment, I spooled it on my reel with my Berkley line spooling station. You can't even spool this line onto your reel with out a rats nest starting., in fact Berkley should quit making fishing line and instead go into the pet business, rats, nests, birds nests, hamster nests, what a waste of time.
I give it one star because it comes spooled and in a box to minimize the mess when you throw it in the trash.
