"I've just started tying flies and didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a high-end vise only for it to sit and gather dust a year from now. But I wanted something a little better than $20 vise. After reading review after review I decided the Griffin Odyssey was the way to go. Wow! Great vise for the money! I've tied about 40 flies so far, from #2 clousers to #18 nymphs, and the jaws hold them all nice and tight. And it's a good thing I saved money on the vise; my material inventory has grown substantially!!"

"I have only owned two vices and one of them was REALLY cheap. I had to use a ton of zap a gap to secure the jaws onto the vice, BUT once I did that, this vice worked really well for the money. It doesn't rotate super easy, but it does ok. Overall, a very good beginer vice. If you have the extra $70, go with the the Peak, but this one is fine for newbies."

"Not worth the money,spend a little more and get a good vice,the jaws do not hold at all ,and they are held together by a spring stay well away from this garbarge the hooks will slip on you and that will only frustrate a beginer.good luck"

Nice vise for the price,

"I started out with the vise that came in a beginner's kit, and I wasn't sure I really enjoyed tying flies. A friend of mine told me to try a different vise, it could make a world of difference. Not sure fly tying was for me, I opted for the Griffin Spider Vise, because I didn't want to spend too much money just to confirm I really didn't like tying.
This vise did infact change my mind. The height of the vice was better, and my neck stopped hurting from having to bend my neck down to see my flies. The rotary functionality makes tying so much easier.
I now truly enjoy tying, and spend several hours a week doing it. I've used this vise to tie everything from a size 6 Wooley bugger, down to a size 20 zebra midge. I can see this vise lasting a lifetime for me."

"I have used the Griffin Spider Vise for many years and it has served me like no other. It has Rotary, it can handle hooks from a size 32 to a size 5/0, it is a simple design, it is light and easily packs for my travels. It is nothing fancy ( I save the fancy for my rods and reels), it doesn't cost hundreds of dollars, and it's made in the USA. Now; Why would I use anything else when I have some thing that works this well?"

"This is a great entry level rotating vise. Its not nearly as glamorouse as your anvils and others but it gets the job done. It holds all sizes of hooks and has a lifetime warranty which you can not beat."
