Bass Pro Shops® XPS® Signature Series Fluorocarbon Fishing Line

Bass Pro Shops® XPS® Signature Series Fluorocarbon Fishing Line

After winning not one, but two Bassmaster Classics® on our advanced fluorocarbon line, Kevin VanDam is ardently spreading the word about its unique fishing characteristics. Like us, Kevin believes that using XPS® Signature Series Fluorocarbon will help you catch more fish--even in ultra-clear water because fluorocarbon has almost the same refractive index as water, so it virtually disappears when wet. Plus, this line is nearly twice as dense as mono, so it sinks faster than the same diameter monofilament and allows better control of your lures. But the part you'll like even better is its low stretch, which translates directly to increased sensitivity; unlike fishing with mono, you'll feel every tick. With low water absorption for superior knot strength, high abrasion resistance and long-wearing built-in UV protection, XPS® Fluorocarbon is a proven winner - just ask Kevin VanDam! Color: Clear.

Using XPS fluorocarbon
User submitted photo
Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"This is a very quality line and it works even better with Line conditioner Like KVD or Ardent line butter. Lasts longer than any flouro that I have ever used and the only reason I had to recently unspool my reel with it is because I was casting my backing knot out.
(oh and I transfered the line from one reel to another and it still worked great, than i had respool...one month later!)

Ok, October 13, 2009
By fifteen5pounders13yrsold from San Diego,CA

Disadvantages: Durability, Performance, dirty

"This flourocarbon is decent but has no match to that of Seaguar. First of, the flouro was already stained when I bought it. I like to keep my line as clear as possible so this didn't fit the bill. The line backlash so easy when I had been using my Curado with a 1/2 ounce bait. It was very expensive and the only reason I purchased it was for KVD. Stay with qualily line like Seaguar."

I bought the big one, October 10, 2009
By RoSan79 from Phila. PA

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"After drop shoting and finesse worm fishing with 8 lb test for 07' and 08' I bought the 1000yd spool this year. The line is sensitive and strong. I have hung lures and pulled an 18 foot bass boat backwards(co-angler) to retrieve my lures. This year I spooled almost all of my reels, bait casting and spinning with XPS 8lb to 12 lb. Comments/questions from anglers who won' t use fluro at all or have tried XPS and didn't like it included, "Is that braid?"
"that line didn't work for me!", " I can't catch fish on a dropshot," I can't catch fish using light line, using fluro, etc . I have caught a couple of hundred bass using XPS. A bunch between 2.5lbs and 3.5lbs and a couple over 4lb. The only disadvantage was that the line held some memory on reels I use less often( Same line I tied on in spring so it's been on a while), A shot of line conditioner, I use KVD's helped

Give a filler spool a try and you will be back to buy the bulk spool too.

Very tough, September 23, 2009
By weims from Trion Ga

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"My fishing partner thinks that you have to spend alot of money to get quaility. In our last tournament he commited on how well my line had stood up to the rocks compared to his and asked what I was using. When I told him that it was the XPS floro he said that he thought it was just cheap knockoff line. Its super sensitive and very strong and has no problems with memory."

By JHINES from BOSSIER CITY, LA

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"I JUST BOUGHT A SPOOL OF 20LB TEST AND PUT IT ON MY WORM ROD AND MY JIG ROD. GREAT KNOT STRENGTH AND GOOD HOOK SETS. BPS DID A GREAT JOB WITH THIS ONE. FOR THE MONEY, IT DOESNT GET ANY BETTER. WORKS ALOT BETTER THAN BERKLEY VANISH. DO NOT HAVE TO RETIE VERY OFTEN BUT I DO ANYWAY AFTER A FEW FISH. DONT WANT TO LOSE THE BIG ONE."

Great line!, July 16, 2009
By Alphahawk from TN

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Style/Design, Value for money

"I have used the 6# line in this for a month now. I have really put it through the ringer on a spinning reel. It is all that BPS claims it is. I have had no problems at all with this and love the sensitivity. I have not tested the breaking point of this line but it seems it is much stronger than 6# test. I can get 200 yards on a President 30 spinning reel. I have caught and landed several Striper's in the 3 to 8 pound range with this line and even landed a 10 pounder. It is a very tough line. I gave it 5 stars but I wish it was cheaper. I am just a tight wad with money. You do get what you pay for though. Even though it is expensive it will be on all my light rigs."

My favorite line, June 29, 2009
By massbasser

Advantages: Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"After buying another brand of fluorocarbon line last year and not being satisfied at all with it I was a bit leery of trying fluorocarbon again I decided to give it another try. I decided to try fluoro again because I was using braided line 90% of the time and I felt I was not getting the strikes that I should be getting due to it's visibility. After a lot a research and reading of reviews I decided to try the XPS 12 lb. on 2 of my bait casters. I was floored by the upgrade in performance this line gave me. The most significant thing to me about this line is it's strength and low stretch properties. Holding a length of it between my hands and trying to stretch and break it resulted in an intact piece of line. The next test was on the water and this line has performed flawlessly, you will feel the fish like using braid but will have the added advantage of near invisibility. This has resulted in more hookups and landings for me. Do your research and find out who actually makes this line and you will understand why this is the line that Kevin VanDam uses."

Excellent Line, June 7, 2009
By CRASH3 from Oak Grove, MO

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"I wanted to use Fluorocarbon on my new jig setup. I have heard nothing but great things on the XPS Fluorocarbon line and decided to try some out. Had the store spool up my new Pro Qualifier to go along with my new Johnny Morris Signature rod in 14lbs test and off to the lake I went.

The line had very little memory, performed very well. Excellent knot strength, excellent abrasion resistance and just performed well above my expectations.

Anyone wanting to try out some fluorocarbon I highly suggest you give XPS fluorocarbon a shot.

Another excellent product from Bass Pro Shops, May 30, 2009
By Ranger777 from Middle Tennessee

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality, Value for money

"I have been using XPS Florocarbon Line for several months now. It has preformed flawlessly for me. I have been using the 17 lb. test and the 10 lb. test . The #17 is on all my baitcasting reels and the # 10 is on several of my spinning reels. I have never experienced any problems at all with these lines. One must adjust their technique to a different product when becoming familar with it. Setting up you reels and handling technique is nessesarry for all types of fishing tackle. Using the "educated thumb" and proper spool friction with baitcasting reels
and your "educated index finger" on the spool of your spinning reels will provide you with unsurpassed casting distance and smoothness of operation. The knot strength is as good as I have ever experienced with any line and exceeds 100% of all the lines I have tested so far. Line stretch is far less than all but the braided lines. I seems to become totally invisible under water, as it has boated me many fish. I highly reccomend using the nail knot which can only be tied with the Tie-Fast Knot tying tool available from Bass Pro or using the Eugene Bend Knot. (See the internet for tying instructions.) For the price and performance you can't beat this line.

Disadvantages: Difficult to use, Performance, waist of moneyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!

"i wouldnt buy thin its only good for spinning, u cant cast against wind at all with this with a baitcaster, i do love berkely 100%florou its alot better, this line also seems to open up in the spool when u cast it, the only time its works is when u use kvd line coating, spend the extra couple bucks and get the 100%percent florou"

Quality line, May 16, 2009
By kustmpaintr from Connecticut

Advantages: Ease of use, Performs well, Quality
Disadvantages: bottom of spool wound too tight

"Very nice line. Great abrasion resistance. Superb knot strength. I have never had a knot fail. Very strong, yet transmits feel very well. I'm not a big fan of the thicker line so I stick to 8 and 12 lb and have had great results. The one complaint I have is that the bottom of the spool seemed to be wound overly tight and squashed the line on itself and had tons of little indents. Spraying "Line Magic" on it after spooling seemed to help, but for the price I would have like to have had less pressure marks. Other than that it has worked very well. Another great Bass Pro item. I recommend it."

"The XPS Fluorocarbon line is some of the best line on the market. It lets you feel the bite when other lines leave you wondering if that was a fish or a stick. Like the 12lb. best for multi. use when on the water. A good price helps too."

XPS Flourocarbon, May 5, 2009
By Omega47 from New Hampshire

Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Durability, Performance

"After seeing KVD promote this line in many of his DVDs I bought a bunch in 10, 12, 14 and 17lb tests. The heavier lines in baitcast reels have performed ok, but the 10lb has been a pain. Unfortunately I bought a $70 bulk reel of it.

The issues I've had with the 10lb test are everything the other reviewers have complained about. It is very twisty - even warming it up (a trick that works wonders with mono) didn't work. If you load it on a spinning reel, it uncoils itself instantly.

Also another big concern is strength. I tied some knots with it and the 10lb line broke like 2lb test line. It took me 4 tries to get a simple clinch not to hold without breaking the line.

Maybe I just got a bad spool, but at $70 a spool, I'm not going to take that risk again. I'm going back to the name brand lines.
"
