Excellently crafted and loaded with features, yet at a fraction of the price of other similarly equipped reels! The CV2 represents one of the best values available to today's fly angler. The frame and spool are machined from aircraft grade bar stock aluminum. Large arbor design affords rapid line pickup. At the heart of this reel is the smoothest drag system we've ever experienced, combining an all-steel one-way bearing, metal gears, and a washer system that incorporates a large surface area into a compact, no-fail stack. This reel has never failed to provide flawless performance on big rivers, with large wild fish, and light tippets.

Not what it seems to be.,January 2, 2008
By Flyfishguyfrom Rocky Mountains
"I checked out the CV2 fly reels and found them to be not such a great value. A true large arbor reel has a wider than average body and spool. The CV2 reel design is called a Psuedo Large Arbor. By taking the body of the White River Classic standard arbor reel and matching it up with a small width " Large Arbor" spool. White River passes this reel off as a true Large Arbor. Actually all you get is out of this reel is less backing capacity compared to most any other trout reel. I dont know who calculated the backing capacity chart on the 5/6 reels but I could only get 40 yards of 20 pound backing on the reel with a weight forward 5 weight line and 35 yards with a weight forward 6 weight line. I wouldn't consider using a double taper line with this reel at all. If you've got your heart set on a White River reel, I would spend a few more dollars and get the 270 reel or a few less and get the Classic reel."

Great reel!,October 13, 2006
By NMFlyCasterfrom Albuquerque, NM
"I use this reel on my 2wt 6' TFO setup and it performs flawlessly. the 3-5 wt balances my outfit very well, and the drag is smooth enought to fight 14-16 in browns and protect a 7x tippet. The machining and quality of this reel are unsurpassed. You cant get a better value!"

Center Locking gear,May 19, 2006
By rainshakerfrom Nashville, TN
"The look, feel, and durabilty of this reel I like; its the moving parts that seem to be defective. I had fished my CV2 for a little over a year before I noticed an annoying vibration in the center locking gear. The mechanism is beautifully simple, but unfortunately there seems to be a design flaw in the gear wheel. The actual mechanism that locks in one directon is not exposed therefore it is difficult to actually pinpoint the problem. Regardless, I've cleaned, tightened, and lubricated every gear, screw and spindle only to find the vibration is still there. I'll probably contact Basspro about a replacement for the defective gear and hope that I get another 1.5 years out of it. It's important to note that the reel continues to function fair; just with an annoying vibration. This is a shame, because I like everything about this reel except for the way it spins."
