Works very well, March 26, 2009
By PEDALR from Eagles Mere, PA

"I bought this reel for my son for bonefishing. He loves it. Drag seems to work very well. Too soon to say if it will last forever, otherwise 5 stars. You have to remove a screw to get the spool off, but this is exactly how you remove the spool from some $700 Tibor reels, no big deal."

solid reel, September 18, 2007

"Can't speak enough about the quality of this drag. Truly great and has stopped many bonefish and tarpon because of its smoothness."

Poor Drag, September 10, 2007
By cheese52

"This is the second GC lll I've had and they suffer from the same problem - Bad Drag!!
The first reel was replaced after one salmon fishing trip for kings. 3 fish - 3 runs and a smoked drag. The second one lasted 3 days on silver salmon with the same result - smoked drag. Seems like the carbon fiber disk can't standup to the heat. Buy another reel with a dependable drag for hard running fish.

Superb Reel, July 26, 2007
By Hammy

"I have to say I was skeptical when I was looking at the G/C 3 series. When I started casting on the first day I thought it to be a little heavy but after a few casts and many fishing days later I find it to be the only reel that I want to cast. I've only seen one review regarding the extra spool and the process it takes to change them out and that has me somewhat concerned but as far as the reel itself I'm completely satisfied."

Almost Perfect, March 22, 2007
By Anonymous from Chicago, IL

"I have two GCIII's and a GCIV and have used both extensively for bonefish, bluefish and striped bass. The reels work flawlessly, particularly the drag system which is both sealed and easy to adjust mid-fight.
But, there is one damning flaw. Changing spools is ridiculous. You need to undo a large screw (a quarter works for a screw driver) which in itself would not be so bad. But, then the small parts fall out as you withdraw the spindle. You have to be very careful or you will lose something. This is not to be tried in a rocking boat.
The saving grace is that if you buy a rod/reel combo like I did the reels are cheap enough to have a spare so you do not have to change spools to change lines.
