"I'm amazed by people that go out and buy $200 rods. Heck, I'm amazed that someone would even spend $100 on a rod! Most rods have one thing in common: They catch fish. The Ugly Stik does just that, and BIG fish! A lot of people I know have this rod, but one of my friends, who doesn't care about the price of his rod, has a lot of Ugly Stiks. His rods get thrown around, fall on the ground, and have been attacked by Bullheads with attitudes! Some of his rods broke after a while, but his Ugly Stik just bounced back. The point of this little story: they're tough!
When you're fed up with your $100 rod, pick out an Ugly Stik or an Ugly Stik Lite. They're great rods, and they catch fish."

"I've been using Ugly Stiks for 22 years.I have 6 Stiks-3 ultras,1 med.heavy,1 bait casting all 1 piece and a 2 piece ocean stik.Two stiks I've had for 22 years and still catching fish. I just bought my 7 year old son (Ryder) his 1st ugly stik.In 4 days of fishing we caught over 300 fish all on Ugly Stiks, The action and the feel of the rod is the BEST. I wouldn't own anything but a Ugly Stik."

"I have fished salt and freshwater since I have been 5 years old until now at 51 years old. I buy quality products and am not afraid to spend extra cash for quality. I can say there is NO better rod for even twice or three times the money as the Ugly Stiks. I see guys jumping on the high dollar rods for staus, when in fact they should be saving the extra cash (after buying the Ugly Stik) and putting that into a quality reel. I currently own seven Ugly Stik rods for UL freshwater to surf fishing the east coast. Wonderful rods!"

"I us this rod with a Quantim reel and love it. I have litterally almost touched the tip to the reel hooking into a 28 inch red in a tourney last June. I knew these rods were strong but that was unreal. What they lack in the sensitivity department they make up for in durability and consistancy. This has become one of my most used and versitle rod and reel combos in my arsenal no matter what I am catching, fresh or salt water."

"I needed a new rod and looked very hard for a great product but didn't want to spend a lot. For the money I believe I got a great product that will last for years given the right care . This rod is great, it's strong yet it has very good action. You can feel ever bump, nibble etc when using this. I bought the 6'6" M rod for a all around rod and couldn't be happier."

"I have two Ugly Stiks. A 6'6" M with an Abu 104 and a 5'6" L with an Abu 101 on it. They are both great rods. The light rod is perfet for blue gill and crappie. The medium is as tough as steel with a good tip. It is heavy though, especially working a Texas or Carolina rig back and forth all day. I switched to Berkley Lightning Rods for that style of fishing. The weight is the only reason I gave it a four star instead of five. I learned to just prop the end of the pole on my belt to help support the weight while dragging it back and forth with a rigged worm. I will buy more Ugly Stiks but I'll go with Lites next time."

"I bought the spl1100 in a 6'6" medium action with the C handle and paired it with a Shimano Syncopate 2500 spinning reel. This combo has been great for bass! The rod has great action and has a pretty sensitive tip for bass strikes. Hopefully it will last a long time!!"

"This rod is extremely durable. I have stepped on them, closed car door on one completely near tip, ran 2 into a home ceiling fan on high setting, jammed tip into rockface hiking, left in car in super high temperatures, etc. (not purposefully of course) . These rods will not break. However do not try to bend rod like in the Hulk Hogan ad for it from 20 rears ago. Unless you know proper way to do it. ( hey, I was a kid back then and thought I'd try it :) hehe. All this is true. These rods add great fiberglass tip section for excellent casting characteristics."

"Good rod for the money. Not as sensitive as others. But still feels the small ones too! Trust me on that. Rod is very durable and forgiving but line guides are not. Kept losing fish to snapped lines because the second line guide was broken. Have gotten another one since. I'll tell you the $30 dollars to relace it was a lot easier to handle than a more expensive rod. Shakespeare makes fishing more enjoyable and affordable for the budget minded angler ."

"I own 6 ugly stiks. They range from 4'8" - 7'. I make enough money to buy any rod I want, but I perfer my ugly stik. My ul is perfect for crappie and bass. I have 2 light weight 7' rods that I like very well. The regular ugly stik is a little heavy throwing a lure all day. The light weight rods really help the fatigue of all day fishing.Do yourself a favor. Buy a Ugly Stik and put a good reel on it. You cannot go wrong."

"I used this rod last summer, and it's true what they say, you can tie these in a knot and they won't break. But I've "out grown" this rod, and moved onto better brands. They simply aren't good for anything else than twitchin' a worm or other simple fishing techniques."
