"I thought I had no square bills until i found this in a crankbait box that someone gave me. It has good action, and to me it was really just free. I haven't caught a fish off of this lure yet, but I will certainly use it more offen. But I do think they are wrong about the weight because of the fact that my jigheads for my alabama rig which are 3/8 ounce are less than this crankbait and what it feels like, hope this lure will catch a fish for me, and possibly you."

"Up here in Canada, on the St-Lawrence River, from Quebec to Montreal, the Big O is the best lure for smallmouth bass. I had lots of success on the perch color and the silver color (1/3 oz)."

Disadvantages: hooks tend to bend easy while unhooking
"Have had lots of fun using this bait in Black Lake and other areas here in N.Y. Problem is that pike like to wack them as well and have lost many of them this way, but that too is expected and I do manage to land some of them. It works great on both small and large mouth bass. The six to seven + foot depth is a plus when you crank it hard, lighten up on the retrive and you can get into shallow areas using long casts so spooking fish is less likely."

"My Uncle gave me a Big O when I first started out. The first time I used it, I hoooked into a smallmouth bass. I was on top of the world. I still have and use that lure to this day (13 years). its got a little rust, but easily buffed out with a wool cloth. Still runs true, just as it did 13 years when I first used it."

"I have the 2 1/4" (3-5 ft) size in the chartruese color and find it to be a decent crankbait, but I would not say it has "go-to" performance quality; average, but not ourstanding, and it is definitely not like Fred's original balsa. .
For roughly the same money, I prefer a Bandit 100 or 200 series. The action is livelier, many more colors, and I can rank them among my "go-to" cranks."

"When I purchased the Big-O a while back, it was solid chrome in color. It is a large crank bait and goes crazy through the water and attracts Bass. I retired that particular one and purchased a couple of new ones because of the color patterns available today. I usually use a 6'6" medium-heavy rod to cast it and get the most action out of it. Hang on to your rod for that sudden unexpected strike!"

"My father in law gave me my first Big O as a joke and said it would not catch anything...Well, the next morning we went out on Beaver lake and I caught a 12 lb striper, and the next morning I caugt 20 bass on the Big O...My father in law caught NOTHING. When I got back to Kansas I went fishing with my Father and Brother in law at Cheny Lake. I was catching 10 bass to my Fathers and Brother in laws 1. My brother in law who hunts and fish's year round was so mad he was hitting the water with the end of his pole. I made up the song, "Its a BIG O Kind of a Day" Every time I caught a fish, I sang that tune, just to rub it in. I told my dad that if the fish were not biting Big O, they were not going to bite anything..He got rid of his tackle box and bought a new one and filled it entirely with Big O lures. And yes, once they switched to Big O, they started catching fish....When my Father died, we put several Big O lures in his coffin. I have caught Bass, Stripers, Wipers and Catfish on Big O...I have made believers out of many people here in Kansas. And I just purchased several Big O lures and sent them to a friend in Washington. There are many look alike lures out there, but there is only one Big O."
